Lightning cable USB connector stuck!

I plugged my lightning usb cable into my apple wired keyboard, and after a while tried to remove it.

It was stuck, no matter how I tried to (carefully) pull the cable and hold the keyboard.

After about 30mins trying, I shoved some thin cardboard in between the bottom of the usb connector and the slot in the keyboard, it helped to remove it.

On closer inspection after I had the cable out, I noticed that the indents in the bottom usb connector are deeper than many of the other usb (apple and non-apple) connectors that I have.

A warning to others out there!

Just experianced this with my cable too, in my laptop, the tip is too lift gently up and down to release, seems the socket gets locked into position. Really bad design. Looks like apple will be supplying these one after another. Not good.

So, I took my MacBook with the stuck in cable to Apple Store show those "Genius", they said "Wow, this is the first time I seen this". They try so many new cable, same problem, then I said that's enough, I don't want my USB port get damanged.

I think they trained to say that, they don't want recall so many cables, and they don't have a solution for that yet.

While I were waiting, I went play their iphone, ipad, search "lightning cable problem", and keep screen on that page, so people can see that, "Genius" can see that, too.

Finally, they gave me an extenation cable said "that's what they can do at this moment"

Glad I came across this forum topi! I thought I was some weird thing about how I plugged my USB cable into my wired Apple keyboard. I actually was able to pry it loose with a pair of pliers (not the best method...agreed), but now I am worried that I damaged the keyboard. May have to replug the USB into the keyboard and then take the whole shooting match into the Genius Bar and see what they think! While I am sorry to see that others are experiencing the same problem, glad its just not me! Beyond that, kinda liking the Gen 4 iPad!

Ever since I've come across this thread I've been trying to get my cable stuck...and you know what?

I CAN'T.

Not sure if mine is from a different batch you folks got, but mine won't get stuck.

It certainly is stiff, and I DO see the abnormally deep holes, but it won't stick.

Genuine brick, my Acer tower usb plugs, my aftermarket usb brick, my dads laptop.

I'd say at worst is the Apple usb AC Plug which is stiff about 7/10 wise, whereas everything else is just a 5/10 stiffness compared to a 3/10 NORMAL tension level.

I bought my iPhone 5 yesterday. Not knowing about this problem, I plugged the USB cable it came with into my SUV's USB port to charge. It won't come out. This is ridiculous. I just got off phone with apple support. They will swap cables with me once I get the cable out. 1. I can't get it out, or I wouldn't be calling. 2. What do I do till then? I need to charge my phone and I'm not going to hang out in my car all day. 3. The second guy I talked to was a condescending jerk. Like I wanted to have a crappy cable mess with my $50,000 vehicle. The solution I was given was to take my vehicle to dealership. (In a city 2 hrs away) Thanks Apple. Needless to say, I'm getting my wife an android.

I just got my iPad 4 Verizon version in and after fighting trying to insert the cable into my Mac Pro I came here.

Looks like I'm not alone. Mine won't plug-in to the USB ports on the front of my Mac Pro. It plugs in kinda tight to the charger but not any other USB ports.

The plastic inside the plug looks too thick?

Hi everyone,

I had the same problem with my connector in my wired keyboard but is managed to pull it out rather easy after all. The biggest problem ocurred when I plugged in the USB in my car. When I tried to pull it out this morning I pulled the whole connector socket that's in my car out of the dashboard. So I had to put pressure on the socket while tinkering with the USB connector after a few minutes I managed to pull it out.

I think one thing that does not help the problem is the very short part of the USB connector which you can grip with your fingers (white bit in between the metal and the cable). It is very hard to get a grip on it which together with the tight fit creates the problem.

All be aware and be carefull. I hope Apple will fix this problem in future cables.

Well thank god for this thread, I've just spent all afternoon, yesterday searching for how to release the usb connector from my laptop!!! Apple have obviously still not sorted this out, months after it first became apparent and weeks after the last comment - I expected more from apple.

I'm disappointed that I'll not be connecting my Ipad to my laptop any more, don't want to risk it getting stuck again.
