Sharing Photostreams in iPhoto 9.4 not working

iPhoto used to be so simple. Now, with Albums, Events, Photos, Journals, Photostreams etc it's all becoming a bit of a dog's breakfast. All I want to do is to share some photos with my family.

So I use the new Photostream sharing facility in iPhoto 9.4. I follow the instructions to the letter: Select Photos>Click Share> Choose Photstream from the pop-up>then New Photostream>then email addresses>then click Share. But the new shared Photostream is empty and I end up sending an email to my family inviting them to subscribe to an empty Photostream. What's going on? Is anyone else getting this problem? Should I be doing something clever that Apple hasn't yet told me about?

Grateful for any help.

Well, my question is the same as that asked by the original poster, i.e. how can I get shared streams to work as advertised.

As far as I understand, i have all the right bits and pieces in place: the right MacOS version (10.8.2), the right iPhoto version, the right iOS version on all my devices (iPhone, iPad). Same for the Mac and iPhone of my son and daughter.

But we still can't get any of the sharing to work. When I share my photos to a shared photo stream, nothing happens (nothing gets uploaded). Same for my son when he creates a shared stream and notifies me and my daughter. Nothing ever appears, nothing gets shared.

I imagine the problem has been reported to apple support, and I did too, but nothing seems to be happening.

So while someone is looking at fixing whatever does not work, I just gave up and now use Dropbox for photo sharing. Which has the added advantage that I can share them with anyone, not just the users of Apple devices.

Since things are not working try actually identifying what you have - if you have al the "right" versions and are doing the right things then it will work so something is not "right''!

The "right things" are identified in this article for different features - http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ along with the "right" procedures

If you double check all of these and it still does not work then reset PS - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4890?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

PS wroks just fine - you have a specific issue which can not be identified without exact correct information - Apple is not going to come to yoru house and fix it - you need to take responsibility and do it

Of course since you no longer use iPhoto the iPhoto features have no value to you anyway

As I was the original poster I should explain what happened after my last post. I had contacted Apple Support and they came back with a tool which logged exactly what was going on when I tried to set up a Photostream. I used this a few times and sent the results to Apple. Just before they were able to analyse the log, Apple released iPhoto update 9.4.1. This solved the problem completely for me. I now use Photostream with no further problems. Thanks to Apple Support for their assistance and to the helpful responders to my original post who pointed me towards Apple Support in the first place.
