iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Now that my wifi problem is resolved with the renew lease method, I am really enjoying my new iPhone 5. I previously had two routers, one at one end of the house and another near the bedrooms. I could only get 2 bars before from the base unit when I was in the bedroom. I have disconnected the 2nd bedroom router because I get 3 bars throughout the entire house with my linksys N router. Very satisfied now.

I had an iPhone 5, 32g and never had any wifi issues at home or the office, it worked perfect. Yesterday I traded up to an iPhone 5, 64g and been having wifi issues ever since. I get no wifi signal of any kind at home, office even tried Starbucks. It just continues to do a search and finds nothing. When I try to manually set my wifi I get an error message saying connection not found. I have reset with Apple Support to no avail and even restored it...

Yes, agreed.

Several times since I got my new iphone 5, i have lost wi-fi connection while my ipad and imac continue toi receive a strong signal and power away on my hi-speed fibre optic cable connection. Very poor for an alledgedly superior model to the last....which it isn't. When not losing connection, the one I have is very poor compared to iphone 4

Here is my situation...

Running iOS6 on iPhone 5 and New iPad.

Set up iPhone 5 on Friday at home and wifi worked great all weekend (airport extreme - 5GHz).

Came into office on Monday and connected to my wifi here for the first time and all was fine (802.11n - 2.4 GHz).

Went home Monday night and connected to home wifi, no problem.

Came into office on Tuesday, connected to wifi but took forever to load anything. My iPad worked fine with no issues.

Spoke with Apple Care and ended up doing a Network Reset and then reconnected and it worked fine.

Went home, had to reconnect to my home network since it was scrubbed during the Network Reset and it worked fine.

Came back into the office this morning and again it connected but was terribly slow and would not load. Did the Network Rest and it worked.

Called Apple Care again and they are now suggesting I do a restore on the phone from scratch which I'm hesitant to do because of how I've got the phone and apps set up and from what I've read from others on in this string that it did not solve the problem. Obviously, doing Network Resets is not the correct solution to the problem.

Any ideas, or should I just go for the Restore and see what happens?

I too got my iP5 64G on Friday and have noticed it keeps disconnecting from my dual band (2.5&5ghz) home hub router. However when it is connected I use SPEEDTEST.NET iOS App and have noticed the data throughput is very much faster than my iP4. E.g averaging 33Mbp/s compared to 18Mbp/s with iP4.

I would advise download this free app to confirm you are getting the higher 5Ghz bandwidth working on your iP5.

I would agree the wifi disconnection issue is iOS6 and very, very unlikely to be hardware. Wait for iOS 6.0.1

Equally annoying is the very VERY poor battery life.. Again this could be iOS 6 but as the hardware is different, it's very likely that will also have an impact. Not something easily fixed with a firmware upgrade!!

I'm currently using my iP4 and unbelievably I feel more comfortable with it knowing I won't disconnect WiFi and that I won't be running out of power if I leave the house!

iphone 5 BLACK 64 GB with the same issue.

Weak wifi signal.

Fluctuating wifi signal.

A second, white iphone 5 32gb and third iphone 5 64gb held right next to my phone have FULL wifi bars.

Mine peaks to three out of four then drops to one and never remains at a consistant strength.

Iphone 4 in the same spot gets full and consistant connection.

When searching for wifi spots - the other models all find multiple stations. Mine either finds none or very few.

There is most certainly a HARDWARE problem here. This is NOT software otherwise the same models would show the same results.

I purchased mine in Singapore from SINGTEL.

I spent two hours on tues day in a queue to buy the iphone 5.

I spent and hour in a queue today to replace the iphone. Every single person in the queue had a an issue with the iphone 5 except for two of them.

I asked the Singtel customer service rep who served me if this wifi issue was common.

He told me that all the black 64 gb replacement models were out of stock and most of them were to replace sets with the same issue. They had stock of all other models in store but said Apple's policy is to only replace like for like (so black 64 for black 64). He would not exchange for a white!

I know have to wait two weeks for a replacement handset.

This is an issue with the build. Apple's quality is gradually going down hill.

Apple need to stop trying to cut costs in cheap factories and actually start building products that are reliable and worth the premium we pay for them once more.

Based on the reported statement by Apple, I would not seek an OEM (refurbished) unit or risk $1700 and wait weeks for online exchange unless your unit exhibited clear hardware symptoms in addition to the WiFi WPA2 issue. In my case, mine arrived "too warm" and would not hold a charge with (even unencrypted) WiFi powered up, plus the reproducible disconnects on WPA2. The replacement OEM that Apple graciously gave me (sparing weeks of online delays) has a worse time with WPA2 WiFi and weaker cellular plus Ive waived my right to ever return it to VZ (different serial #) so contract is now permanent, but I think those remaining issues are software now (because of what Island Man pointed out around page 40). Bottom line is wait as long as you can, especially if you bought from a carrier, but don't "get close" to the 10 or 14 day mark that some carriers (like VZ) have.
