Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

Thanks for sharing clickmeas.. The more that I read the more that I think I got the issue figured it out with my theory.

I have changed my router ip to 192.168.1.1 + DHCP reservation. I then restored via iCloud. During the restore, speed was very consistent & high. I was able to play Youtube videos during the restore with fast preloading/caching (tested with a 30 min video, did not stop a single time !). As soon as the restore ended, my speeds got back to 50k/s & inconsistent. My chip is an Apple one (68:96). Feels like a software issue for me..

I can confirm you are right on this. At my work we have 33 people with iphone 5's. 7 of them have no problem with wifi and the rest of them say its so slow it cant even be used. So I checked all the mac address's and the 7 that work no problem are intel and the ones with issues are apple. I have an appointment at the apple store tonight so I will see if I can get mine replaced with one that has an intel chipset.

mp3king82 can you please let us know MAC address starters for Intel chip. So we can also try and get a new replacement ?

The intel ones at my work started with 88 and 8C. It seems there are a few different ones. When I go to the apple store im just going to use one of there computers to check the website and make sure its intel before I leave the store.

PS: I have also printed this complete topic to show them so they cant deny there is a problem. My boss loved me using that much paper lol.

Yep, using a computer in the apple store to check your MAC addresses manufacture company is the best option. They vary a little to there is no standard set.

Im thinking this must be a driver issue. I know some people with older phones and ipads and some have problems with wifi on ios6 but were fine with ios5. I just checked and it seems apple used both intel and there own chips on these devices as well. Brings hope that maybe this will be fixed in an update.

Hi everyone I have a 4s and I too have found it very fustrating after upgrading it to ios 6 but I changed my wifi to guest and the internet if working alright for now. i guess i will wait until Apple comes up with a solution.

iPhone 5, MAC- 54:26, Apple Chip, Sprint - very slow, inconsistent connectivity and throughput on both cellular and WiFi.   Apple needs to come out with a public statement and fix SOON!   Been an Apple fan for years but am starting to lose faith in the quality of their products!

How do you check the chip?

You can check your WiFI chip manufacture company here:http://www.hwaddress.com/ (You only need the to enter the first four letters/numbers of your MAC Address. Where do you find your MAC Address? Go to Settings->General->About ->Wi-Fi Address

Just checked my phone - 20:c9 - Apple WiFi chip. Girlfriends I5 is a 98:FE - Apple chip also.

Both have spotty cellular coverage and more importantly wifi problems. I imagine this has something to do with the battery drains we have been seeing as well..

At home, we have to be physically in the room with the router to connect - WPA2 AP (don't recall, but I think it may be set to AUTO TKIP or AES).

At work, I sit next to the AP on our Barracuda NG FW using WPA2 with AES in counter mode with CBC-MAC CCMP and the phones will not connect at all.

What I would like to know is IF these connectivity problems are down to which chip you have in

Our iPhone WHY does my iPad now not connect properly after updating to IOS 6? Neither does my IPhone 4 or iPhone 5. The common factor in all of this is IOS 6!!!!!!!  No problems before I updated, now it's a total pain!!!!

I posted earlier in the thread and have the wifi wpa2 issue. Local store has asked me to book genius to go in and discuss.. Progress maybe.

Home network running on WEP and coping. Spent the last week at a Hilton and no wifi issues. Issues at work though...

So all in all its a real issue for me. Will revert back once been to the Genius Bar.

However.... Observation today... I use iTunes Match but have mobile data for iTunes turned off. Clicked on download a few songs (ok quite a few) last night. Obv hadn't finished this morning (wifi played up?? Don't know).. But battery has nosedived today... Can someone else verify or refute? And phone has been acting as a (very hot) pocket hand warmer all day...

If mobile data for iTunes is turned off, but it has outstanding downloads to do? is it putting itself into a loop that it keeps trying to that it can't escape from?

Oh and yes I annihilated my 2gb download limit before I realised it was using 3G (uk based) not my home wifi... Just super.

And before the flaming begins (as often these threads end up). A direct quote from my wife. If apple made a toilet seat you would have one by now... I didn't refute the statement but began considering how Sir Jonny would alter my experience.
