I've spoken to people who are also thinking of switching to Android to get their wifi back. Apple need a fix soon since they are losing customers because they cant produce a working version of iOS.

I say "working" because sure the thing powers up and the screen works but if you cant download apps and movies, get email or surf the web then the iPhone 5 falls somewhere between a candybar phone and the original iPhone 1. Remember Steve Jobs said the first iPhone was a phone, an iPod *AND* an internet device. Right now the iPhone 5 is a phone and an iPod but not a modern internet device.

Apple probably dont monitor these forums but in case someone stumbles in here PLEASE, PLEASE get us a fix for this asap! And if that fix is the rumoured early release of an iPhone 5S do the decent thing and recall the defective iPhone 5.

we got a refund under contract and just paid for the couple days it was set up, I am guessing that legally if you cannot use the iphone for what it was sold to do there is a good case for contact cancellation anyway

I'm having the same slow wifi problems on my new iPhone 5. The wifi connection stays connected but the download speeds are ridiculously slow. Apps take forever to download and streaming videos pause every few seconds. This happens on any wifi network I'm connected to, secure or nonsecure wifi networks. Once I switch to LTE the download speeds are fast and normal. I've used sites like to do download tests comparing my old iPhone 3GS and the new iPhone 5 and the 3GS always downloads files faster no matter what wifi network I'm on.

This is my second iPhone 5 and it has the same problem as the 1st one. Thinking about getting another replacement before my 30 day window is up. If Apple doesn't resolve this issue then I'm planning to look elsewhere for a new smartphone.

I thought it was 14 days window to return?

  • doublerainbows Level 1 Level 1

On my receipt it says "If you are not fully satisfied with your iPhone purchase, you can return your undamaged iPhone within 30 days of purchase for a full refund with no restocking fee." As far as I know I didn't damage the phone...the phone was already damaged out of the box since wifi really *****

Update the firmware on your router.  Update your iPhone to iOS 6.01.  Reset your iPhone and Router.  If the issue still persist attemtp to connect your iPhone to a Good Know Wifi network.  If the phone connects fine, then the issue is not with the phone, but the router/gateway.

  • doublerainbows Level 1 Level 1

I've come to the conclustion that it's the iPhone 5 itselft that is the problem. My router has already been updated to latest firmware and the phone has the 6.0.1 update. Resetting doesn't work or fiddling with router settings. No other devices on my wifi network has this problem. My old 3GS wifi downloads anything 10-15 times faster than the new iPhone. I also get the same problem at work on the building's public wifi network.

I just wanted to post my problem on this forum to add to the growing list. Hopefully the next iOS update will fix this problem.

What firmware (IOS) are you using on your 3 GS?  When I updated to 6.01 the wifi speed was reduced by over 50%.

  • doublerainbows Level 1 Level 1

My 3GS has the new 6.0.1 update and I didn't notice any slowdowns. I loved my 3GS, which has been a workhorse of a phone for the last 4 years or so. After seeing how sharper the new screens are on the latest phones, I really can't go back haha.

Upgrading routers is not a solution. We can't expect IT departments to upgrade all the routers in the world just because Apple does not want to fix their new phone. If Apple want to make inroads into enterprise then they need to work with existing infrastructure not expect enterprise to change to suit Apple.

Doubleraindows: Upgraded to the latest firmware for your router ?

Its funny to point out, i had to DOWNGRADE firmware to get my Iphone 5 and Iphone 4S with IOS6 to work. i dont personally recommend downgrading firmware unless you read the tech docs to see if was any security benefits of the firmware. If the Tech docs for the firmware fixes something that doesnt comprimise your security settings in anyway, then its descretional to make the change.

The problem is a catch-22 issue.

Vendors of WiFi products/vendors havent consulted apple and vice versa about their firmware/software to be embedded in to how the hardware for the iphone to wirelessly communicate.

These WiFi problems, u cant have one without the other

I got told by Netgear, there is no firmware upgrade plan for my Netgear WG102 and they are aware of connectivity issues.

So i have a choice of downgradings firmware to make all devices compatable OR i throw it in the bin and buy something else and cross my fingers

    Funny response isnt it ?

Funny, it just struck me that due to patent war and the claim from both Motorola and Samsung that Apple violates their wireless patents, maybe apple has found their own implementation of the wifi to avoid paying royalties or settlement in the court, funny thought and hopefully not right?:)

There are no fact or evidence behind this thought, just what I pick up from the news

Just purchased an iPhone 5 two weeks ago, I haven't had any of the stated problems above with wifi until now. The problem is trying to connect to wifi, my phone says the password is incorrect. It doesn't even try connect, just says incorrect password. I'm traveling abroad, and the phone has worked flawlessly (and smoking fast I might add) until today. Complete lock out of very wifi network. It appears that it doesn't like passwords. It's strange that on this very network, all of my coworkers using iProducts, same software 6.0.1 have no issues but me with the iPhone 5. Apple tech support is convinced that its just the network, but that answer doesn't settle with me. The phone is the problem. Period. I have to wait till I return home and visit an apple store so they can run diagnostics.... There are enough complaints here, why isn't there a fix? This is obviously a software issue.

Seriously considering returning the phone and re-activating my iPhone 4....

Very disappoint in the phone and the support...

Go to the settings - wifi - tap the blue arrow on the network that you are unable to connect- select FORGET THE NETWORK return to the network list - select the network -enter the password -.  This worked for me.
