    Well, my new "replacement" phone is no longer connecting to WiFi, unless I'm within 1ft of the router.  This is at home and a friends.  Any further away, I can see the network, but connection fails.  At work, it's random if I can even see the wireless networks, connection fails if I can see them.  Within 1 ft, it works perfectly.  It also worked perfectly for the eight days I had the new replacement phone.  With my testing, it makes no difference in the brand of the router, the encryption, or lack of encryption used, no amount of turning the WiFi on and off, clicking "Reset Network Settings" or "Erase all Content and Settings" fixes the issue.

    I have the same problem with my Iphone 5. Sometimes Iphone can't connect to my wifi (I have d-link dir 635 router), sometimes connect but speed is about 0,5 - 3 Mb/s. I have two Iphones 4 and 4s and speed is about 20-30 Mb/s. It is my second router and I checked 2 routers from my friend. Still the same problem. I checked 4 routers.

    But!!! in my work my Iphone 5 connect to WiFi without any problems and works great. Speed  40Mb/s wow.

    Mario, can you check your channel width settings... and move them from Auto to 40MHz, if applicable?

    I got my iPhone 5, 10 days ago & gave my iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1) to my wife. Both are under Telcel here in Mexico City.

    My iPad 2  & the iPhone 4 get much better reception than the iPhone 5 in the house & the iPhone 5 doesn't see as many networks available as the iPhone 4 in some places.

    The signal drops or  gets nearly one line when I walk away from the router while the iPhone 4 gets a stronger signal at home.

    I restored it, force reboot, etc.

    I took it to Telcel so that they could check it out.

    Before I tested the phone over there & wierd enough it picked up all the same networks available as the iPad 2 & even other networks that the iPad didn't see.

    I have a record for the iPhone now as having a faulty wifi… They said that the phone was not picking up the same networks, but they restored it & said that now it's fine, if I have problems again to bring it back.

    The truth is the iPhone still behaves the same.

    If its a hardware problem it has a year guarantee with Telcel, they said.

    I've been testing networks all over the place & this is something to do with iOS 6….

    Mountain Lion that has the iOS integration keeps dropping the signal as well in my house… & there are tons of forums on the net with this issue as well.

    Now I'll wait for the iOS 6 fix or for everyone in the world to update their router settings for the iPhone 5.

    FIX THE PROBLEM! You all know it exists. I got told it was my WiFi router or the phone itself. However, my macbook, ipad, and ipod all connect to the WiFi with zero issues. It's time Apple comes out and says either they are working to fix it or they admit the phone wasn't ready to be released to the general public.

    It's been a week and still going strong.  There are times when the 5ghz wifi connection needs to be disconnected and reconnected if it hasn't been used in a while.  As soon as I forget the network and rejoin on the wifi it's back at 30+ Mbps with no probs.  This is still better than what I was dealing with with the old linksys router which never worked so I'll take it.

    I also notice that my iPhone 5 only connects to my router (DLINK DIR-655) at 11g and not 11n.  Even if I change the settings on my router so 11n is the only option it still connects at 11g.

    This problem is UNACCEPTABLE; I wish I waited for the release of the 5S now. I thought after I bought my 4S I could trust Apple in produce quality products. They seem to have gone backwards with the iphone 5, IT’S BEEN NEARLY 3 MONTHS now, not happy and considering the mobile phone life cycle is generally 12 - 24 months. So what if it turns out to be a hardware problem? I bet there isn’t a product recall.

    Clearly there's a problem with iPhone5. Somebody need to sue Apple to recall this inferior product.

    Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I had the 4S until last week, when something went wrong (battery meter was inaccurate), so I decided to upgrade to the 5. It took me a couple of days to realize the wifi issue. It wasn't staying connected, had to re-type password, slow connection, etc., same issues as everyone on here. I started searching online and couldn't believe the responses on here (and other related threads as well!) After I tried several of the suggestions on here with no luck, I called Apple and the lady suggested I go to AT&T for a replacement. She said the wireless chip could be faulty. Today I went in at lunch and got a replacement. The wifi worked fine at the AT&T store, however, I stopped at a couple of places with free wifi and one wouldn't even show up and the other said unable to join. I had the same issue as before with wifi at home. So, I called Apple once again. The man I spoke with put me on hold to speak with a senior advisor and came back after a few minutes and said I would need to get it replaced yet once again! He also admitted that there were a lot of iPhone 5 wifi probems going on and they were aware of it. After work, I went back to AT&T for my 2nd replacement and I think the people there thought I was crazy. When I tested it at the store that time, it just kept spinning and wouldn't connect. They said only one other person has had that issue. I tested it at a couple of places on the way home and it seemed a little better at first, but of course that didn't last. So now I'm on my 3rd iPhone 5, back at square one and not sure where to go from here. AT&T has been very patient with me so far, but they basically said I would have to go through Apple if I wanted another iPhone. The closest Apple store is about 2 hours away. I plan on calling them again tomorrow about this issue. I just wanted to let those of you know that are still having this problem so you might want to check into a replacement since that's what 2 Apple reps told me.

    I bought an iPhone5 two days ago and was having the same wifi issues! i could only connect to networks that were literally 5 feet away from me. My connection would drop as soon as i left the room. Even when it was on 3G it was slower than usual. It wouldn't show all the networks (that were available) my macbook and friends phone were showing more networks than the iPhone5. I had to return it, it was irritating me to much. The guy told me he never heard of the problem so far. My iPhone4S always stayed connected to my router no matter where i was in my house, even in my driveway... without proper wifi connection the phones almost useless! I dont want to use all my data up and some or have to sit in my living room to use my wifi thats b.s. for a $700 phone. They said the wifi was supposed to be even faster and discover even more networks. I always loved my iPhone so i want to stay with apple but this is soooo frustrating! I'm scared to buy another iPhone5 incase im dissapointed again. I was looking forward to using this phone!!

    Out of curiosity, is your issue just with your router or with all of them?


    I've had no Wi-FI issues with my iPhone 5, but issues talking to the Internet when a strong Wi-Fi signal is present sounds like it could be a DHCP issue rather than a Wi-FI one (i.e. you could be connected to a strong Wi-Fi network but if you don't have a proper IP address and DNS server address, you won't be able to access the Internet.)


    When this happens, have you or anyone else tried checking your network settings to see whether you (still) have a valid IP address and DNS server address?

    Just thought I'd update, after getting my second iPhone with no problem from the apple store, the wifi is still slow and upstairs it becomes non existent, my 7 year old MacBook works fine upstairs! Also, the Genius Bar dude told me after I asked if the phone was refurbished " yes, but apple get the better ones with newer hardware and the phone companies get the others" so I recommend getting your replacement direct from apple.

    He was also aware of a lot of wifi issues and said they suspect the software on the routers is not up to the same degree as the iPhone 5 so call your providers! I know it only stands for home wifi issues and not public places but I can deal with that considering the 3G here is pretty good
