    mikeua69, I hope your troubles are over.  But wait a few weeks before deciding it it is a hardware or software problem.  It appears many of the phones start out working just fine, then some combination of factors that corrupt the firmware that can't be "fixed" even with a system restore occurs and the performance goes from great to lousy.


    I hope your phone stays healthy....

    Just back from Apple, who tried telling me it was my router, I told him I have reset it etc etc and that my ipad, mac book pro and sisters iphone 4 works just fine, I had the same issues as everyone on here, I have walked away with a new phone but like my other one, I have a feeling in a few days this space.

    the only thing different i did when it stopped working, was install a parrot bluetooth hands free in my car and since connectig it to that, the issues started, now worried to pair my new replacement with my car hands free as I dont want it happening again, fingers crossed

    I agree Paul, I think you are correct its going to happen again, and I will keep taking it back until they fix the issue, I did connect it to my new bluetooth handsfree for my car and it seemed to go wrong after that, now scared to connect to the car bluetooth ;-( had no issues with my 4!! thanks for the reply

    My iPhone 5 would not connect to my Netgear WGR614v6, which has latest firmware (dates back to 2009). The error was simply "unable to join ..." my network.


    We have a Toshiba laptop, HP g7-1260us laptop, old Dell desktop, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4S, all of which connect just fine. Over the summer I temporarily had an HP 2000 laptop, which would not connect. HP tech support told me my router was too old.


    apple replaced the iPhone 5, and the replacement also would not connect. So I replaced the Netgear with a new Cisco Linksys, and it is the best $70 I ever spent at Best Buy. All devices, including iPhone 5, now connect, and at much faster and more reliable speeds.

    To add my 2 cents to the other 3k+ posts. My iPhone 5 has been fine until the last 3 days. Nothing has changed. No fancy new case, firmware, etc. my ipad mini has poorer wifi performance than the iPhone 4 and 2 ipad 3s in the house but the iPhone 5 will only connect to wifi if I'm basically sitting on the AirPort Extreme (2nd gen model). I have noticed that switching from 2.4ghz to 5ghz has helped but that cuts off some of my other wifi devices (eg iPhone 4).


    Very annoying....

    When I'm in my bedroom I can't connect to my WiFi-network. It's very frustrating because I use my iPhone al time to check my mails or ... I've never had this problem with my iPhone 4 or MacBook White and MacBook Pro, so I guess something is wrong with my iPhone 5. I don't want to use my guarantee and receive a new one or something, because then I have to wait at least 2 weeks. I hope it's a problem with the software and that Apple can fix this with an update, but now I'm very unhappy with my new phone.

    Has anyone received a brand new replacement and no further issues??! I received my new one today and just have a gut feeling its going to happen again. Praying its a software issue. Glad one of the threads said that apple are aware abs working on it. My local apple store said they were unaware

    I have tried iP5 on 2 seperate WiFi networks with Cisco Linksys and get the same issues.

    I went through three iPhone 5's (including my original) which all had really slow wifi (2-3 MBps d/l with 25 MBps DSL) and drop-out's (but never login problems) when I moved more than about 10 feet from my router (my bedroom!) then made an appointment at the Apple Store as my exchanges prior were all done at the Eaton Centre Bell store (my carrier).  The Genius was a great guy, he knew of the problem (this was prior to the iOS 6.0.2 release), had dealt with the problem before but wouldn't say much else.  I showed him my "SpeedTest" log, he got me a new iPhone (out of a sealed, unmarked box - not a retail iPhone box) & after the setup he downloaded the SpeedTest app. and we ran several tests on both phones sitting side-by-side.  The new one was much faster in the Apple Store, we both saw it.  Now I had read (among many speculative ideas) that once the phone is connected to iTunes things go south so I expected the worst but it didn't.  I've had the phone now for about six weeks and it has performed consistantly with iOS 6.0.1 & 6.0.2 (no change) achieving about 8-10 MBps d/l, less than half of what we should get).  I live in a large apartment building in downtown Toronto and can see about 12-15 of my neighbours under "WiFi/Choose a Network" and I still get a wifi signal at the elevator (about 60 feet from my apartment - I live at the end of the hall).  My wifi speed was  better on my previous iPhone, the 3GS plus when I was on the balcony I could pick up two, sometimes three bars from a coffee shop about 400-500 feet away & 33 stories below.  So I've had no degradation (nor improvment with iOS 6.0.2) since I got the fourth iPhone 5 from the Apple Store but my wifi is still not as good as my old 3GS yet Apple advertises iPhone 5 wifi as "ultrafast".  My roommate and I got our iPhone 5's the same day, he got a black 32GB & I got a black 64GB, he has had no problems with his original phone but has never connected to iTunes (only his iPad) and he gets pretty much the same performance as I do with my fourth iPhone which is adequate but not satisfactory.  I of course have connected to iTunes and do so daily.

    Ditto on the entire thread.  It's January 4th and still unable to get wifi to work consistently.  Updated to 6.0.2 but still cannot reliably get any speed.  Usually it just gets hung up downloading something and I have to go manually turn wi-fi off and let it run off of 4g.  Apple, please help.

    Day two with my replacement phone and I am still having issues with home wifi. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes not at all or really slow. At least this phone will work on my work wifi. There are obviously still issues with the iPhone 5 and wifi.

    There have been widespread reports of wireless connection and speed problems with devices using Apple's newly-released iOS 6 connecting to NETGEAR products.
