Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Contact Netgear for support on your WAP product, ive generally found them OK to talk with. There are no detailed specific instructions for configuration, the basic setup from your Internet Provider should get you up and running , otherwise Netgear to offer help.

If you're having connectivity issues with Netgear such as the password is not accepting, there's a high chance its firmware related,... again speak to Netgear about it.

    Hi All,

I've started a new discussion for those who specifically have the issue of slow downloads of large files/podcasts/etc over WIFI networks.  Just wanted to focus on this specific topic, rather than general WIFI issues that many people are seeing (ps if you are having issues connecting to WIFI networks, take your phone back as soon as you have confirmed this issue on a few different WIFI networks, don't put up with it!).

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4820670

Good luck everyone who is having issues!

Ok guys so a lot of issues on ios 6.x.x  but the most annoying for me is when the wifi gets disconnected after a few minutes you leave the iphone locked. Anyone else has the same problem? This is just unprofessional i mean Apple your supposed to move forward but with these issues i suppose more people are leaning towards androids now.  Does anyone know if theres going to be a fix for this?

Try to check some posts from few pages back. There are some remedies that seemed to work for others.

This has become one of the biggest concerns for iphone5.

    We need updates!!

I have tried everything listed. Swapped my phone twice. I am just about done with apple and the current update has not fixed the problem.

I managed to isolate the problem on my iPhone 5.

The wifi behaves badly on 2,4 GHz networks, On 5 GHz networks it seems to be a lot better.

But as most public networks are still on 2,4 GHz and as 5ghz has not the same range as as 2,4 GHz, this remains a problem.

On 2,4 GHz networks: only able to Connect when next to the router, speeds drops dramatically as soon as I move a few steps away .

On 5 GHz networks: speed is perfect, distance from router also, but 5 GHz networks is unusable when there is an obstacle (wall) between the iPhone and the router

My findings are not related to channel band width at all. I travel alot and have access to numerous manufactured wireless routers from Belkin to D-link and others. The problem is wifi security, IE 'All' options WEP, WPA etc etc. Open the security, set to none and test your connection the for a short time and Im confident you will see a remarkable difference. If you have a dedicated MAC address option within your router then use it. If not you have 3 options.

    1. Buy a WIFi router that does or

    2. Only connect via your 3/4G internet provider

The third option is buy a samsung.

Since removing security completely, using rules only to accept MAC addresses from the hardware I choose (very secure) my Iphone 5 is sensational! Apple on the other hand need a good swift kick up the.

MAC filtering without encryption is NOT secure.  It may keep the casual person from connecting to your router, but your WiFi traffic can still be sniffed, and without encryption, all your traffic can be read by anyone determined to do so.

I am running a MAC filter and the speed has improved but not happy running it this way. I will be changing it back.

I know when I stream YouTube it works ok and 1 or 2 others. every other web site with video it buffers very slowly or not at all.

I tested it with out of box state. I can only assume its a software problem.

Not happy at all since I paid full price from my phone. looks like I am going to sell it and go to the dark side.

Funny thing is if you jailbreak your phone it works ok is what I have been told.

    I returned my iphone5 2 weeks ago.

Today a received a new, probably refurbished, one.

    Configured as new phone

Works perfect, normal data traffic when I have 2/3 strong wifi connection

My problem was a hardware issue

I did the same and worked for 15 mins and then fail.

try streaming a video clip from the web but not from YouTube and i wounder if it buffers ok.

I just got my replacement this morning, the wifi was ok it can connect to any wifi.. My problem with the last unit was wifi can only connect if you are 3 feet away from router and dc if you are further, none of the public wifi. When i send it to the service center, the guy told me that most ppl return the phone because of 3G and wifi issue. That means mine is a hardware issue. The replacement unit has ios 6.0.2 and i updated it to 6.1.2. So guys if you have similar problem and if you can just try to replace your unit....
