session time outs after security questions

i updated to ios 6 yesterday. today i tried downloading/installing a free app. i was asked my apple id password. dialog message "improve apple id security" to help ensure the security of your Apple ID, choose three security questions and answers. again, i was asked my apple id password. then, Security Info screen appeared. i selected and answered three security questions. clicked on done. this message appeared "Your session has timed out. Try again." i tried several times but same scenario happened.

yesterday, there was an option button NOT NOW at improve apple id security dialog, today its only CANCEL and CONTINUE.

This happened to me on my iPad. Went into settings to iTunes and App Stores,, clicked on my AppeID, signed out and signed back in. Then I trid to download the app again, went through the security settings, and it worked this time. Try this to see if it will work for you.

I am having the same problem only on my iphone. I followed the suggestions posted above. I got my phone Friday and was SO excited to be in the mix of smart phone users. Little did I know what was to come. I have been trying since Saturday to even try out my first app and to no avail I still haven't gotten to have any fun with it. Considering I'm in my 30 day return period I am considering returning this product if I cant even use it. Has anyone found anything else?

I found this in another and post and babaaam! It worked! I finally have my frst app downloading now. Follow these instructions if you continously get timed out after entering your security questions/password. These instructions came directly from Apple to another user who posted in a similar thread. Props to DrBull_Bull for the help and time to post. I will try to pass this along as well.

here is what i received from apple. the method 1 solved my problem.

1) Quit App Store in multi-tasking.

•From the Home screen, click the Home button twice.

•Tap and hold on the app.

•When it starts to jiggle, tap the red ➖ in the top corner to close it;

***Please close all open apps on your phone***

2) Tap Settings.

3) Tap Safari.

4) Tap Clear History.

5) Tap the Clear History button.

6) Tap Clear Cookies and Data.

7) Tap the Clear Cookies and Data button

If this doesn't solve your issue, you may also consider trying this one:

1) Quit App Store in multi-tasking once again.

2) Tap Settings

3) Tap General

4) Tap Date & Time

5) Set your time ahead (e.g. two hours or more) and your date to at least a year later than our current one.

6) Go back to your App Store and try again.

***You can edit your Date & Time after***

I also managed to locate the following topics on our Apple Discussion Board, where other customers had the same issue and was able to resolve it:

The reset all settings was the only solution for me. It wiped all my wifi passwords, and other settings. The solution essentially created additional headache and problems. A big FAIL to Apple on ios6 in my books and I will be considering other smart phones when I upgrade my iPhone 4 early next year. Clearly the ethos of this company to deliver first class solutions has diminished given the snafus experienced by apple users with ios6 an the latest hardware incompatibilities.

What a nightmare. I got a new 4th Gen IPod (upgraded it to iOS 6) and setup an Apple ID on the apple id web site appleid.apple.com (mistake made here dont ever go here). Seems that if you do this - you only see one security question not three as are presented on the IPod. I tried every trick from every web site. I hope this info helps someone - here is what worked for me. I happened to have another iOS device - an Iphone 5. I changed it to use the new apple ID in the App Store. I entered credit card into (though I only planned on using a gift card with this apple id.) Anyway when I went to purchase the app it asked for the pin of the CC. After that it asked me to verify the three questions which I tried and it worked from the IPhone. Then the Ipod worked fine after this. I even removed my CC info from the account and all was good. I can say this totally *****. 6 hours of googling. Apple ID web site is not the same as creating the apple ID through iTunes or from the iOS device itself. Something is missing there as it only asks one security question, however Itunes and iOS ask for 3 questions. iPod 4th gen will always give you a session time out error after answering the questions.

Just for the record I tried the following:

Sign out of App Store and Itunes, re sign back in

Change payment info in the account in General Settings, App and Itunes

Change Time and Date ahead 2 years

Reset network info

Reset all info

Restore Device to Factory settings (which doesnt really work after you upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 on iPod 4th Gen)

Remove iCloud Account - Re-Add iCloud Account

Only thing that worked was to sign into another (more advanced?) iOS device and answer the questions there.

Seems like iOS 6 and 6.01 bug. Ek. No way to manage the 3 questions via another web portal - appleid only showed one question until after I answered the 3 questions from my iPhone 5.

Good luck folks.
