Something loose in new iPhone 5
I received my iPhone 5 today and noticed that something is rattling inside when I shake the phone. Sounds like the battery.
Anyone else having that problem?

I just got mine, and I'm hearing the same thing.
Just opened mine to discover the same.
I got a white 16 and a black 32 and I am hearing the rattle and when I tap the lower left corner on the front and in the upper part of the back of the case.
Called Online Support who told me to call the local Apple store to make a reservation and they'll swap it out (if available) as it's a hardware defect. Doing this online will take approximately3-4 weeks to get a replacement.
Same here - appalling. Can feel a vibration as I type on the screen. Can't work out if it's a camera lens one of the buttons?
Can hear it if you gently shake the phone side to side - coming from the top
Build quality my arse
Just opened mine and i'm so beyond ******! Take it out and sounds like the freaking battery is not secured down!
Just got my iPhone 5 and it's rattling. My iPhone 4 had the same problem. It's one of the major reasons I decided to upgrade. I got sick of feeling like my phone was going to fall apart. I'm on the phone with support right now and they act like they've never heard of it. This has been a problem since at least iPhone 4 and I haven't checked but it may go back further.
For some people it's a loose sleep button. For others it's the camera. The phone will function and the camera will work but it will continue to rattle. It may eventually fail, I have no idea and Apple claims that it is not an iPhone issue which is complete and utter bs.
I just told support to connect me to my local Apple Store so I can get it replaced through them - hopefully, quickly.
I'll keep you posted.
I have the same problem, but not able to replace it as the verizon store does not have a stock now. Hope i will get a replacement soon.
Same 'issue' here (I'm not sure if this is really an issue or not though - some people are saying all the phones do this).
Same issue here... Called local apple store and the genius had no idea what I was talking about. I have an appointment to bring it in. This is so disappointing- a $300 device shouldn't rattle... How on earth did quality control miss that?!
Fail.
Regarding the above post about this being "how the phone are"; We have MULTIPLE iPhones and none of them have ever rattled.
My 3GS didn't rattle but we have iPhone 4S's that rattle (a lot of other people experience this as well with the 4S aka 'camera rattle').
Not defending Apple or saying it is 'right' just saying this has happened before.
Personally I don't like spending $399 for something that has a rattle but I can live with it more if all of them do this and it's not an isolated defect....
Apple Support told me it's a hardware issue and that shouldn't be happening. I shook the phone for the person and it was audible to them.
My issue isn't a slight rattle, it more like thud which leads me to believe it's the battery and not the volume buttons, home button or camera.
Mojomaniak,
Did they replace the phone for you?
Earliest reservation @ the nearest Apple Store is tomorrow and I'll post more then.
I called and verified that it can be replaced and they confirmed that there are enough in stock to do so.
A 'thud' sound is definitely a different scenario than what has been discussed in this thread - thanks for the clarifiaction.
