Something loose in new iPhone 5

I received my iPhone 5 today and noticed that something is rattling inside when I shake the phone. Sounds like the battery.

Anyone else having that problem?

Hi! I got the iPhone 5 yesterday, 32G black, it also has a slight rattle inside. I noticed it within an hour of receiving it. I took the phone to one of our local Apple Store's, a tech opened the phone and said it was the vibration motor. He returned the phone to me and said it needs to be be fixed, but since the 5 is new Apple hasn't released a fix yet. He also ran a full diagnostic test, the phone is functioning properly, but the rattle is annoying. I submitted an online case with Apple Express Lane, suggest others do the same, the more cases they get the faster it will be resolved.

I am very upset with my experience at the Madison, WI apple store.

I have a rattle when I tap on the back, top portion of iPhone 5. A pinging that I can feel when I pick it up as well. I called to ask if they have any replacements in stock and was told I need to come in to find out, as she nor any geniuses could give me that info until I arrive. So, it could have been a trip for nothing. As it turns out, that was not the issue.

Bottom line, genius told me that every single iPhone 5 has the same rattle which comes from the "vibe motor". She then shows me another one that had it, only it wasn't as bad, this one felt and sounded more solid. She disagreed-she thought it was the same-it was not. She told me basically that if I didn't like the rattle noise I could buy another phone. One of those situations where you feel like they are making you out to be crazy. I'm pretty sure Apple didn't make an iPhone 5 with a loose vibe motor that rattles when you tap on it.

I am thinking I got a bad store/rep/manager and that if I go somewhere else, I may get a different answer. I want to print out a copy of this forum to show them. I have been a customer of apple since 2001, buying at least 10 different items. I have never had a problem like this, nor do I think apple made a defective product. This genius/manager were just wrong and rude.

Took mine back to the Apple store. It was very busy with a line up for the new phones but they were able to fix the thunking battery problem in a few minutes. I also picked up 2 spare Lightning to USB cables, one for the car and one for work. (ouch almost 50 bucks with tax)

I decided to go the repair route instead of starting over. No break in service, no sync, password, settings issues.

The Apple store service was perfect.

Lets hope that does it, now I am a little concerned with ocassional heating and low battery life. We will see.

UPDATE: I just went to the Milwaukee Apple Store, better service, same result. The genius said it was the vibration motor and that apple couldn't replace it. He said all the other iphone 5s in the back did the same. However, I tapped on the back of one on display, and the ping wasn't as audible, which the genius confirmed. Regardless, he couldn't explain it, as he opened it up and found nothing loose inside.

I actually then took it home and discovered that when I hold the power button down while tapping, it isn't as bad! I think it's actually the loose power button I'm hearing, with the vibration motor as secondary. I don't care anymore, though I am disappointed with Apple that they couldn't make my iphone rattle less after bringing it into 2 stores. They also didn't catch that the power button was responsible.
