iPhone5 No sound unless I have headphone in 64GB

Yeah, what riffraff said. I just trimmed the cotton down a bit and removed some of the loose bits and stuffed it in, wiggled it around, whipped it out and it was good to go.

While I'm happy it fixed it, it's a complete joke that we're sticking q-tips in our headphone jacks on our brand new iPhone 5's on day 1.

This was like the 4S, they had problems. Dude, they made over 2 million of these and I bet the defect rate is like .5%. Sorry to hear that.

I think the failure rate is more realistically at 5% rather than .5% (paint chiping, bad screen, bad heaphone jacks, etc). The USB cable issue (getting stuck in computers) is more like 90-100%. It wouldnt' suprise me in the least if they offered a program for the repalcement of the lightning cables.

Ugh, I just got an Iphone 5 64gb White..... 2 hours later I was on loudspeaker heard a pop and now, no sound works.. only works on headphones... ***?

I changed from a blackberry to the preceived "brillant" apple and I have a Dead on Arrival phone.

Find the nearest box of Q-Tips and give it a shot. May the for..... Q-Tip be wth you!

I know it sounds completely random, but what's your ipod app volume set at?

my system volume for some reason is being controlled by the ipod volume after using siri even though the system says its all the way turned up. So if the ipod is set to 0 sound then i have no key clicks, shutter sound or ring tones... just a though

I'm in the UK and my iPhone 5 16gb thinks it's got headphones* in all the time too. I have no suggestions, I just though adding some volume to this thread might help get Apple's attention!

Don't know if it helps but I had same problem and all I did was plug in my headphones, unplug them and sound is now working! Also the phone has stopped telling me earphones connected! :-)

Exact same problem here. iPhone 5 16 black. No sound from bottom speaker straight out of the box. Earphone works fine, headphones work fine when plugged in, even the vibrator works just fine. Tried everything this thread suggested, including the Q-tip trick, which did absolutely nothing for me.

So today I had to take a real late afternoon flight back to LAX from a business trip - full flight, middle seat, all the way in the back between fat people FML style. Then I was stuck in Friday LA traffic for almost 2 hours before I finally got home. Which was ALL chill because today was iPhone 5 release day, and I had one in the mail waiting for me.

Then 15 minutes later...\/\/ T F Apple?!??!?!??! *flip table*

It was too late to call Applecare so I called Apple iPhone sales at 1800MYAPPLE, which was a complete waste of my one hour. So I will have to call Applecare tomorrow, or just go down to my local Apple store and ask one of the "geniuses". But what I'm real concerned about is that if I have to mail back my defected phone for a replacement, what am I gonna use in the mean time? Cus the moment I turned on my new iPhone, my old sim is deactivated and it's not like I can just take out the new sim and put it into my old iPhones since it's the new NANO sim! So do I have to contact AT&T too now, for like, a loner phone or something? Ay ya yay~

Either way, I really hope the most valuable company in the world can have a simple solution for a situation like this tomorrow when I call in.

My genius appointment is at 2pm today and I just told them (begged them) to put a 64gb AT&T aside for me and they said I'd be fine and they have a reserve for defect exchanges. And I agree with Joe... *** is this about? Very disappointing.

Got mine to work. Have an iphone5 16g. Tried all kinds of apps such as Pandora, Youtube etc and all have no sound from the speaker. Finally started TED and it asked me if I wanted to play on appleTV or iphone. I chose iphone and now the speaker is working for all the apps. Definitely looks like a software bug to me.

GabeZs you are right about the percentage thing. Just got my iPhone 5 and its a day old and the earpiece has a lot of static and crackling noise. Have to get it replaced and I am very upset. I wrote a question about it and the replacement process. Please reply on my page with an answer!

This is exactly the issue with me. no matter what I did, I could only get myy system sounds to go so loud. I adjusted the iPod sound and all systems sounds are much louder now except for keyboard clicks which are really faint. Must be a software bug.
