iPhone 5 not charging

Hi,

My iPhone 5 will not charge has anyone else got this problem?

When I plug the lightning cable in its as if the phone registers this but it will not charge.

I am also unable to transfer any data across to the phone.

The phone has been rebooted several times but still no luck,

Thanks

Jack

I also have problem charging iphone5. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. I dont know what is the cause. Cable or phone? I tried my friend's cable, it worked. So I thought cable was the problem. So I ordered another charging cable, again it didnt work. Then one morning it started charging again. 2 hours ago I hooked it up to my laptop and to my surprise the phone updated the IOS firmware. And I was able to charge it until 50%. I thought this update would solve my problem but I was wrong. After update, it stopped charging again. I wonder if Apple guys are working on this issue. I will try another cable tomorrow. I am afraid iphone 5 will mark the end of Apple era...

an AHA! moment. I had same problem today on two different chargers, the wall outlet, and my iMac. That seemed strange until i though about it. Since i had been working in a dusty environment yesterday and the iPhone port is very small, i used a magnifying glass to peer into the port. AHA! - debris debris debris!!!. I used some canned air to blow out the port hole and some electronic spray cleaner as well and plugged it in. INSTANT SUCCESS.

Folks, don't assume the cable or phone until your check for DEBRIS!!! ;-) hope this helps and saves you the cost of a new cable.

I am having charging problems too. I have 3 different cables that all have the same problem. I have my original 1 and also purchased 2 additional about a month after I got the phone. I have the same problem at home and at work and in cars. Unless I have 3 faulty cables (very unluck) it seems to be something else. When I plug the phone in it starts to charge but then stops shortly after. Then it may start up charging again. This intermittent charging is driving my nuts! Anyone else have this problem?

Same problem here however i have the new iPod Touch 5th gen which comes with the lightning connector. I purchased it in december and it worked fine up until a few weeks ago where only one side would work. Then the other side slowly stopped functioning and would only work if i wiggled it around a bit. Now it doesnt work at all and my ipod is flat and when it finally registers the cable, it tells me to connect it to something though it is. I have used my phones wall charger which now makes strange sounds when its connected to the lightning connector, and i have the same problem when i plug it into my computer.

I've had a similar problem to what has been discussed on most of this thread - intermittent charging on the wall unit or computer. I cleaned out the lint and dust in the device's port, tried several different outlets and orientations. Nothing seemed to 'fix' the problem, but eventually it began charging again. Went a couple of weeks with reliable charging, but today it quit completely - before it would sometimes recognize the charger but not charge, now it doesn't even register. Cleaned it out, tried wiggling the cable around. Will wait and see what happens - sometimes it takes it several minutes and will then begin charging. . .

"reboot with the phone plugged into the charger"

Ok, so I wake up and my iPhone 5 is screen is dark. Have owned for 8 months no troubles. Assuming it was a dead battery I plugged it in. Nothing happened. Changed Cables, 3 different adapters,to computer, everything i could think of. NOTHING.

Got to this forum and

read a post that mentioned "reboot with the phone plugged into the charger", so I plugged it into the original adapter again with the original cable and pushed both buttons for 10 seconds....after another 15 seconds -

BAM it started booting up .... and the battery was not drained as I had expected, but still had 77% battery charge left, go figure?

Software problem in my opinion - gotta be.

Iam really sad about this problem.

Never had Problems with my Phone, but for 4weeks it wont charge.

I've bought an new kabel (30€) and it works.

After 1 week again! None charging. Got a new kabel again.

Now, after 2 weeks again none charge. That makes me crazy.

Its weekend, I need a phone, I wont send it to Apple.

May I change on Monday to 4S, because I wont try every week a new Kabel. And have none battery on weekends!!

Fix this please. I need some help..

The problem seems to be that the new lightning cables 1) are fragile and 2) have an authentication chip built in to them (to help prevent knockoffs). When the wires connecting the USB connector fray (as they easily do) it seems to deactivate the authentication chip, or at least cause it to malfunction. This explains why some cables work sometimes and not others-- it's not the phone, it's all the cable.

Solution? You need a brand new cable. I have gone through three in the past month. It's a nightmare. If Apple wants to corner the market on cables, for whatever reason, they need to give us a cable that's sturdy enough to stand up to everyday use.
