iPhone 5 not charging

Hi,

My iPhone 5 will not charge has anyone else got this problem?

When I plug the lightning cable in its as if the phone registers this but it will not charge.

I am also unable to transfer any data across to the phone.

The phone has been rebooted several times but still no luck,

Thanks

Jack

I am also having charging issues, only mine are different from what others are experiencing.

When you plug in the lightning cable, sometimes it doesn't charge so I flip lightning adapter over and plug it back in and it starts charging. At first I though it was a short in my cable, but I tried using another cable and same problem exists. I used someone else's iPhone with both cables and there were no problems. I took it to the apple store last night and an associate tried with one of their cables, same problem. Therefore the employee confirmed it was not the cable and it is the phone. Unfortunately, I did not have an appointment, so I had to make an appointment for today and they will swap out the phone.

after happening and reading this thread, I took mine back to the Apple store and was shocked to hear "there's no problem with the cord"...."really? because there are pages of discussions from people having this problem". She said "Haven't heard of anything like this"

yeah, right

After complaining I got a manager who gave me a new cord....worked for a week and here I am again with a new iphone 5 not taking a charge. I did a complete backup and hard restore and I still have the same problem. Yes, flipping the cord over and reinserting works (sometimes) so does the tying the cord off to one side (again, sometimes). It's a brand new phone, I should not be having this ridiculous problem. Taking it one more time to see what happens...either getting a refund or a real solution.

iPhone 5 is my first iPhone and I got a faulty charger cube. Seriously!?

When I plug it to the wall socket, it registers but It wont charge.

I used my iPod charger and it worked just fine.

I tried to charge my iPod with that cube, nothing happen.

Seriously.. I'm very disappointed with Apple right now.

I'm supposed to feel very excited about getting my first iPhone.

Now I feel annoyed.

I heard many people complaining about the faulty of iPhone 5 but I never thought that it will happen to me.

And the sad thing is, iPhone is only sold exclusively via telco operator in Malaysia.

Dunno whether they can replace we with the new cube straight away or I have to 'fight' for it first...

We bought both and iPhone 5 and and iPod Touch 5 and they both have the same problem with the new power cube and both the new cables that came with them. However, I think it is the combination of cable and cube: I can use the new power cube with my old ipod classic cable and there is no intermittence. I can use the new cable with my old power cube and ditto, but if I try to charge the iPhone 5 and iPod 5 with the combination of new power cube and new cable the charging goes on and off... We haven't registered any issues connecting to the iMac... yet...

I had the same problem. Charging my iphone 5 has become increasing problematic - first the lightning cable would only charge one way round, then it imtermittently failed to charge over night - finally I could not charge the phone at all (either by mains plug or via computer USB). Syncing with itunes etc had also become increasingly hit and miss).

Tried my wife's iphone 5 charger and cable and my phone charged - so I assumed that the lightning cable was faulty. Called apple support and they are sending me a replacement cable next week.

However, on closely examining the lightning port on my iphone 5 it seemed to contain a lot of compacted dust at the base of the socket. I have carefully cleaned this out with a fine splint of wood and the original cable and charger worked perfectly first time.

I will try and cancel the replacement cable.

It seems that the latest iphone is far less tolerant of dusty/linty pockets and if the connector does not go in that final millimeter various intermittent faults can develop before a final failure.

So I went to the store last week, wanted to claim for a new power cube.

The guy there did some test on my 'faulty' power cube with his iphone.

It worked for his iphone! Then when he tried on mine, it was not working!

I insisted on a new power cube. It has been more than 1 week and they still had not have the stock yet.

Funny thing is, Out of nowhere yesterday I just want to try that power cube again.

And accidently I dropped it from 30cm height. And guess what?

Suddenly it can charge!

Sue, did you ever find out what the problem is with your iPhone5 not charging?

I have the same problem. I've tried three different lightning connectors, three different chargers. The phone will run off of the charger/cable, but will not charge the battery. It was working fine for weeks and then just stopped cold. I'm thinking it's either a software issue, the battery just died or something internal to the battery charging just crapped out. I'm hoping just software of some sort, but I've tried everything like shutting the phone down, resetting, etc... none of that worked. iOS 6.0.2....

Barely 24hours after getting mine, same issue...I jammed it in, did the reset thing, bent the cable to the left, seems to be taking a charge now...but I'll be heading to the Apple Store...lucky to live in a town where there's also another Apple Retailer, so one or the other should be able to help me solve my problem.

This is pretty crappy QC though...and I'm using the Griffin Survivor case, it's not supposed to let any grit get in there as has been suggested may be the problem in some recent posts. Annoying...

My problem actually turned out to be the phone itself, or at least the battery. I tried three different charges, three different lightning connectors and finally took it to the Apple store. Their chargers didn't work either and the phone wouldn't even come on even though it showed it was connected to a power source. After the battery totally died and the phone shut down all I got was the battery icon and a lightning bolt... it would never charge. They just replaced the phone completely.
