Yellow tint on iPhone 5

I haven't gotten mine yet but when my friend showed me his, I whipped out my photo color corrective filter set and looked through a series of blue filters which rendered the whites as white and not yellow.

The yellow tint is certainly there and since it appears to be virtually universal, I would be surprised if Apple did not come out with a firmware update imbedded in iOS 6.0.1 that would only be for the iPhone 5 and possibly the iPod Touch 5 if it turns out to have the same problem.

It is strange. It actually gives the screen a vintage look as though you were looking at a Polaroid instant SX-70 photo. And it also looks as if it was an iPhone 4S with liver damage.

This the first time I've ever had an issue with an iPhone display. All safari links are purple, same with Facebook, all blues are purple. Very yellow display that I will be returning.

Ok so went to apple, compared my phone to the floor demo models,floor models screen much brighter, my phone and demo phone full brightness, demo phones screen bright white tint, mine yellow tint! Brought this to apple staff members attention who noticed the difference straight away! Got a swap out brought it home! Same "shi""y" yellow display :(

Was looking at my phone wearing my polarized sunnies, and when I turned it on its side, the screen went white!

Looks like mine is not glue after all, at least that means I can turn he brightness down for now.

It's not good he hear hat apple is swapping yellow phones with more yellow phones. Might be worh checking in store before taking it home

My friends phone, also yellow tinted, has also improved a bit over the weekend. I'd keep this in mind before swapping it out:

-use it for a few days. I don't think it has to do anything with glue drying, but maybe some other element that takes some time to activate the full color spectrum. Not sure.

- stop comparing it to other iPhones. Every screen is either warm or cool when it comes to Lcds. If your old iPhone was cool toned, and the new one is warm toned- you're not going to see the same exact color reproduction.

-What colors are the solid, primary colors? The Facebook icon isn't a good gauge because it has blues, greys, and a little purple in it. Look at royal blue, grass green, fire truck red, and caution tape yellow lol. If those looks good, your color is normal for a warm screen.

-brightness is different. If white looks yellow, then it's a defect with brightness. If grey looks warm, that's normal and not a good indicator of a defect.

Hey guys, I've been using my phone a few days now, noticed massive yellowtint out of box. I'm starting to actually get used to it. I was livid to start with, and it made me feel sick to think I had a yellow screen. I've seen a couple of 5'z now and I think the yellow screen is just how they are, buying you put screen on full brightness, it's less obvious the brighter You set the screen the whiter it looks. I think looking at a phone in the store will be difficult because they will have the brightness on full. I've also noticed when you're outside the phone screen looks better looks whiter, But this will be due to the phone correcting itself to brighter conditions and brightening the screen. The time that the screen strikes me as being most yellow is first thing in the morning in a dark room when I first look at my phone. It does look like the problem may be universal. I will say this the phone is incredibly fast and incredibly good at what it does. If I decide it's a real problem I will jailbreak And get the app that colour corrects as I have seen this work for many people.

PS I wrote the whole of this message by speaking into the phone. It's only places a word wrong due to my poor northern English pronunciation. It really is a flipping incredible phone. The fact that it is such a good phone deters me from the yellow issue. I am also quite fond of the grammar correction As my English is very northern and poor.

Plus I've noticed the people noticing that it's yellow Are only the people that have used an iPhone for for an extended period of time. With this post I'm not confirming that the screen is okay to be yellow but it's not that much of an issue really

I hv went to the apple store in last weekend. I compared my IP5 with their demo units, at least 5pcs. I confirmed that all phones including mine had similar levels of yellow. So I think this time Apple has changed the color tune from cool to warm, not due to faulty screen.

On the fist day getting the IP5, when I compared it to my IP4, I felt shock and very disappointed (the screen of my IP4 is much much much whiter). But when I used the new phone normally in last 2 days, indeed the yellow tinit did not disturb me. When I used it to take some photos with white background, it showed good white color on screen! So I beleive my phone works normally and I decide not to return it.

Also, aftering using it over 2 days, I confirmed my screen has become whiter. I believe the glue issue is true 😉

So it’s not a glue problem, it’s a calibration problem and can be easily solved via software.

I also have the black 16 iphone 5 with at&t. I like many others noticed all the whites looked like a yellow tint. I have the iphone 4 set up side by side and the whites actually look white on it. I am also one that leans towards it being a software issue and it is their color settings to make other colors look brighter and more vibrant. You can test for yourself if you go to colorschemedesigner.com on both devices side by side. The colors on the 5 look much more accurate and vibrant compared to the 4 which look kind of washed out. But I still want my whites to look white. I might have to jailbreak to use the color profile settings. A couple coworkers are suppose to have theirs arrive this friday so I will compare mine to theirs before setting an appointment with apple if I really cant get use to it.

I bought 2 iPhone 5s both in 64 gig versions (at&t) at my local Best Buy Mobile on Friday night. I get them home and put them side by side and low and behold, one is yellow/ivory looking compared to the other one which is perfectly bright white with a slight purple hue to it which looks way better and the way it should look and looks just like our iPhone 4 models. We didn't have iPhone 4S models. The one that is perfect is my wife's, while mine has yellow/ivory tint in the white areas when I compare them side by side in various brightness levels and in the settings menu where you can really see the difference. I mean it looks terrible when you compare them side by side.

I did what others recommended and used the phone non stop so that the phone would get hot and so the glue can cure and no luck at all. I made sure the phone got hot and used the phone for hours in the highest brightness levels. When I compare them side by side, it still looks the same.

To make matters worse, I went to the Apple store last night and they said that since I bought the phone from Best Buy and not direct from Apple, they were unable to exchange it out for me. I was so angry that I wasted all that time at the Apple store waiting to be helped and was pretty much turned away when I should have been prioritized, since I purchased a defective item. I think I was there for 2 hours and even the Apple rep went to talk to his manager and nothing. They refused to help me! The Apple store told me to return the phone at Best Buy and then come back and buy the phone from them. I had to leave with a defective phone. Such crap! Apple's customer service needs an overhaul to say the least! They think that since their products are in such high demand, they can treat their loyal customers like that.

I spend $1000.00 on two new iPhones and Apple wouldn't stand behind their warranty for the product they made. Best Buy didn't make the phone. Best Buy simply sold me the phone! Apple wouldn't honor their own warranty and I hadn't had the phone even 24 hours when I went to them for help!

In my household, we had 2 iPhone 4 models, now we have 2 iPhone 5 models, we have two of the new iPads (64 gig Verizon LTE versions) and 3 iPods. I am starting to think about if I should still remain an Apple loyal customer. This whole ordeal has really ruined what was supposed to be an exciting event getting new iPhones. I will be sure to tell everyone about my ordeal!

For one thing, the yellow tinge is not covered by the warranty or as defective. It's more at the digression of apple to swap them out or not.

If its true that there are cool toned iphones, I'd be interested in trying o return. Of note: the 4s has a brighter screen than 5 when it comes to specs so it will never be a white as the 4s.
