iPhone 5 flash and shutter out-of-sync

It seems to span many weeks sadly, no idea whats the cause.

But do you think the problem is aware of Apple engineers?

I don't know what's going on with mine, it was out of sync Saturday so I did a hard reset and it fixed it until the next day. I haven't reset it since and now it's working again, I'm very baffled by this.

I am awaiting a call from Apple engineers about this, all I can say is one phone does not do it, one does. If you watch the flash when it does not work properly its not as bright as the intial one that fires, not sure if its a capacitor issue or software, I get the feeling its hardware though but I could be wrong.

I've called the Apple Care (italian), the only thing they told me is that they can only do the replacement iPhone...

As its not hugely widespread well there is not hundreds of posts I would go for a replacement if offered. Its hard to tell, but if its like mine its really anoying and my first iPhone 5 did not have this issue at all.

I prefer to wait and see if the problem is analyzed by Apple engineers.

I think, as I understand it, the problem is software and then with an update can be resolved. The replacement of the phone is fine, but at this moment I can not give it up. In the end the problem is only a function of minor importance.

Up to you, but how do you know its software? It does not effect everyone, and I have two iPhone 5's one has never done this and I got it on the 21st the other much newer does it every day, if its software and I have loaded both with same backup you would think both would have the same issue 😕 Since the camera is quite an important part of the phone and the flash not working is also quite major I think, I would not leave it to the hope that its software not hardware. I wish sometimes Apple would just say one thing of the other, but I would not hold your breath on a quick fix. Good luck with whatever you choose to do though.

I have this same problem.

iphone 5, white, 64gb.

the flash actually makes the iPhone's light sensing adjust and darken the picture, then the flash goes off before the shutter snaps and the picture turns out MUCH darker than it would be had I not used the flash at all.

Serious problem!

If you look at the flash, well on my handset the second flash does not go off bright enough to illuminate the shot, have a look at yours to see if its the same, its been diagnosed as a hardware fault on my handset as the other iPhone 5 I have does not do this at all, annoying but at least there is a resolution, just hoping the next one will be ok. 🙂

Well, I wish I'd looked at the flash brightness as you mention, before I reset.

So an hour ago I reset (2 buttons held until apple), then turned phone off 2nd time, and restart.

NOW, the flash goes off medium level to assess the photo, then goes off BRIGHT for the photo FLASH.

(In other words, working perfectly for NOW, but I expect it to regress as before, after a day or so?)

would everyone who is experiencing this issue please report this to Apple via their iPhone Feedback page?
if enough people bring this to their attention, hopefully we can get a permanent fix for this issue.
