iPhone 5 flash photos are very dark

Hi. Just got my new iPhone 5 with 64 GB and I noticed that whenever I take a falsh phot, the photo is very dark to almost black. The LED flash is working. Has anyone noticed this today? Could it be software or hardware problem? Pictures without the flash seems OK.

Hey guys,I think I cracked this issue. I tried all your solutions and failed. finally I had this little hunch that if I remove my iphone case and shoot in the dark. yes it worked.no more smudgy pics with flasher. It looks like that the edges of hole (opening) provided in the case for the camera lens and flasher reflects the light back to the lens and there by smudging the image. it worked for me. for all those who are using phone covers, covering the back of the phone just for once remove the case and see.

I have the same problem on my iPhone 5 32Gb.

Tried everything and nothing solved the problem. I believe there is nothing we can do to fix it. This is up to Apple "experts" to find out a solution or the customers will be able to take pictures only during the day.

My wife has a Samsung S Duos which costed less than halp price of my iPhone 5 and the camera is MUCH better and has no issues with flash.

I am very disapointed with iPhone cameras in general .

I had an iPhone 4S and the camera was just crap as well.

I hope this issue can be fixed asap otherwise this will be my last iPhone.

Thanks.

The solution was released ages ago via software update. The iPhone 5 definitely is amongst the best phones for use as a camera, and I couldn't be happier. It's also the most widely used camera on Flickr.

I suggest taking it into an Apple store if you're still experiencing this problem after a software update. What version are you running, 6.1.4?

Also surprised to hear you didn't like the 4s's camera, since my wife gets amazing shots from hers every day.

Polaris, sorry to disapoint you but my iPhone 5 is updated and the camera does not work as expected. The flash is not syncronized. The sofware version of my iPHone 5 is 6.1.4

I have nothing against Apple. In fact I like IOS. I have a Mac book air, ipad but definitely the iPhone camera is really bad compared to Samsung Galaxy.

I believe your wife gets amazing shots from her iPhone 4S on daylight outdoor.

I will follow your suggestion and contact Apple store but to be honest I am not confident they will fix it as I see many people on internet complaining about iPhone cameras/flashes which makes me think this is a general issue and not a problem on my devices.

I'm not disappointed at all; my phone works fine as a camera. 🙂 And my wife gets great photos indoors and out. I suggest you take your phone to an Apple store, because it's clearly defective. "Many people on the Internet" is not a definitive indication there's a problem.A quick Google search shows there were indeed a lot of problems, prior to the 6.0.1 update released on Nov. 1st, 2012. After that, nothing. Anything after that is a defective phone that should be fixed/replaced under warranty.

I have to agree with you that many people on internet doesn't mean too much because for U$ 5 can hire people to writh bad things about companies, people, etc.

What makes me really disapointed is that I have 2 iPhones (4S and 5) and both have the same issue about camera/flash.

I will contact Apple store then I will post here their feedback.

Thanks Polaris20!

I have an iPhone 5 and I noticed many of my photos when taken even with a flash would be dark.

I checked to be sure my software version was up to date-it was.

As mentioned above,it was suggested the case might be block or reducing the flash.

I removed the Mophie extended battery/case from the phone and took a phone with a flash of a dark area. It looked great! Then I put the case back on the phone. The photo taken with the flash of exactly the same photo with the flash was dark.

Conclusion: The problem with my iPhone 5 was definitely the case not the softwa

Not sure if this is the same issue but my iphone 5 kept taking really blurry/smoky looking photos when the flash was used. It turns out it was because I hadn't taken the clear protective film off the back of the phone so the flash was blurring on the film!!😊 Hope this helps🙂

Solved my issue lol. My wife picked up phone at store, they didn't take off the clear cover, it screwed up th flash. Works perfectly now 😝

Anyone having this problem now, Oct. 2014? I have happily used my iPhone5s camera for about 1 1/2 years, and only since mid-September have I had this problem. Up 'til then, all indoor pix were awesome. But now, it looks GREAT in the viewfinder, but you can barely see the subjects in the actual pictures. I suspect it relates to an update, but can't prove it. Knowing Apple, they are probably working on it. Hope so!
