iPhone5 bluetooth not working

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S work great. iPhone 5 fails. That sounds pretty simple to me.

Same car or cars and bluetooth. Different model of phone and/or chipset and firmware.

Please fix it Apple.

Now that you mention it, my Apple maps work just fine. At least they have my street and address (so did TomTom, but I reported this error to them long ago so I assumed Apple maps would have it right). I have downloaded Google maps. Still don't have my street so I reported it again. (There is a long reason for the issue).

I'm not defending Apple at all. I just spent decades having to logically solve problems. There appears to be two problems here, the BT firmware that Apple is using in their latest chip on the iPhone 5 AND certain models of cars with a certain BT chipset/firmware. It would be so much easier to solve (albeit expensive) if the iPhone 5 did have a defective BT chip that didn't work with any devices, including cars. They could then do a recall and replace the chip. But that is not what is occurring. As I already said I can pair mine with my car, receive calls in the car, pair with my jambox, my Ultimate Ears headphones. I know others who are pairing with their devices.

So this makes it a much, much harder problem to deal with for the engineers who have to solve it. They have to logically break down the situation until they can isolate where the problem is and how to solve it. It might be another firmware update (6.1 is on its way sometime this month anyway). It may be a change in your cars firmware. It may be both.

But if you are someone trying to solve it then it helps to have all the information possible which is why I gave you the firmware link. Then you wait to see if they can solve it. Or you change phones. Or cars. Your choice.

I suggest you send feedback and wait.

I understand that. I am also in the business of fixing complicated technical issues. And I have submitted the feedback to apple. My issue is when you contact apple they say that its not thier issue, take it up with the car manufacturer. This is a stall tactic that apple and its sad to say most technical maufacturers use. In the mean time the consumer is left to go on thier own for months even years.

I was searching and it seems there are also issues with VW and Toyota's, specifically Prius..

And I did read that there might be a fix in 6.1

I've paired mine with a friend's Passat and also with an Audi A8L. I haven't read much of any Toyota's/Lexi having the issue, perhaps the Prius is using a different BT chipset?

Let us all hope that in 6.1 it is solved.

And if you have been in the business you should know that none of the players ever admit to a consumer that it is their problem, it is always the other players.

- so his first iphone5 wasn't working but the later one (which may be from a different shippment, diffrent lot) does work. This looks like it is a manufacturing problem.

It may have been on his, could have been a defective radio chip. Doesn't mean it is on anyone else.

We're the iPhone 4 and 4s you tested also running iOS 6?

Seems like the Apple Community overseers don't like the fact I posted publically available information regarding the next release of ios 6.1 as they deleted it.

I got this email today from Nissan regarding my 2012 Altima. I hope someone (Apple or Nissan) does a firmware upgrade to eliminate the problems:

I'm having the same problem, strangely with a 2006 vehicle as well. iPhone 5 purchased the week of 20 December 2012. Land Rover LR3 from 2006, worked fine with my iPhone 4 with the old (not updated -- I didn't want to lose Google Maps) iOS.

I sucessfully paired the phone, and made calls with the steering wheel and radio keypad. Shut off the vehicle, get out and lock it up. Later, open the vehicle, get in and start it. With the iPhone 4, the radio would display "Phone Attached" automatically (actually, it started to pair the moment I unlocked the vehicle -- before I'd even get in!) and I'd be in business. With the iPhone 5, nothing.

Instead, on the iPhone I have to enter Settings/Bluetooth/select "Land Rover (not connected)" and enter the password and touch "pair". Then it connects and works fine...until I leave the vehicle again.

Apple, get this fixed!!!!

Now we can add land rover to the list. This is obviously an iphone5 issue. This is a safety issue. We should be fiddling with the phone while driving.

Indeed. Frankly, I'm a little miffed at Apple re the iPhone 5. I have to replace 3 usb power cables due to the new Lightening adapter (my charging station, my computer, and my briefcase) plus an adapter for my car, for an additional $120 on top of the iPhone.

This is a HUGE safety issue, Apple, and needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY. Distracted driving is a real problem. I want the phone to automatically sync with the vehicle and, if I need to answer or make a call, be able to use the steering wheel controls to ask Siri to dial a number (Siri is a step back, too -- she doesn't understand "karl", so when I say "Call Karl xxxx" she searches the web for Karl xxxx instead of my phone book -- but this is another issue), and get to business.

I've had the same issues with my 2011 GTI.

When I approached Apple with the bluetooth "Dial Up Failed" issue. They stated it was VW's fault and not the new iPhone 4s, but I did a little research. The newer iphone (above the 3GS) are working on a newer bluetooth technology. Thus, rendering them pretty much useless to previous bluetooth technology systems.

I discovered the issue by purchasing a SIM card adapter to allow me to use the 4S SIM card in my 3GS phone and it works fine. Now, I'm just stuck with using an outdated iPhone, but I can at least receive and make handsfree calls now. I've switched back and forth a couple of times and through elimination that it has to be the iphone and the new bluetooth technology. I advise anyone to try this method... if you want a phone that works with your handsfree system.

Or... switch to an Android based phone with the standard 3.0 bluetooth technology and skip all the bluetooth issues.

I just bought a 2013 Crv and all of the functions won't work my iphone5. I called apple a few weeks ago, and the man spent a while researching it. He told me that it is being worked on and should be on the next software update. That came and went and it still doesn't work!

My wife has a 2013 Accord and all iPhone 5 features work as advertised. This is the first year for this model. I believe the CRV model is several years old. It would be interesting to ask Honda if the CRV and new Accord share the same Bluetooth components / hardware.

The Accord Bluetooth does have difficulties switching between my iPhone 5 and my wife's iPhone 5. Sometimes I have to turn off Bluetooth on my phone to force the Accord Bluetooth hardware to use my wife's iPhone 5. This is not an issue for making and receiving calls, just Pandora and USB.
