Horizontal lines on iphone5

I really don't think there's any point in trying to get it replaced. Just wait for the software fix.

As indicated on another forum, I am having the same problem with horizontal, flickering coloured lines appearing on Appstore. The problem started appearing the day I got the phone on the 21st, and I have been able to repeat it several time since. My experimenting seems to yield the following: the problem only shows up on Appstore - not had any problems elsewhere; the lines appear at keyboard level, at the same place each time, when asked to enter my ID password. Can't say if it has anything to do with numbers.

I certainly hope it is a software glitch of some sort...

I have actually also noticed this when expanding application groups. It only happened once but has anyone else seen it here as we'll? Other then that the only other spot I have noticed it was in the App Store as mentioned above. Pleas GOD let it be software!!!

I'm also having the same symptom with it being intermittent and it happens during the password prompt screen within the apple store. Any help or insights whether this is an issue within the app itself would be much appreciated.

i agree with you. It shall be the software issue. It occurs for certain applications.

I got mine on Friday 21st last week and noticed this behavior, I also had another issue with the microphone, basically no one could hear me at the other end of the phone.

Long story short - I took it into an Apple Store and they replaced the unit, the sound issue is no more but I still get the issue with the lines when entering the password.

I have tried to reproduce this while using the keyboard elsewhere (Notes, messages, emails) but it never happens there, only when the password is requested. The likelihood of getting 2 phones with the same issue is either down to a design/manufacturing fault on the screen but since it only happens on the password screen it looks like a software issue.

I'm looking forward to the first patch 😀

hi all...i bought my iphone 5...on friday..exactly the same issue with the static lines when in app store password.

I had the phone replaced today, guess what same thing happens,it has to be software...its only happens in app store.I would say dont panic🙂.

I went to the apple store about the problem and was told that it was a hardware problem and I had a defective iPhone5 that needed to be reached and they gave me a new phone and sent me on my way.

So is it a software problem or a hardware problem? I got the same static lines (only when entering App store password). I tried to screen shot the lines but the lines did not get captured/went away, which led me to believe it's a hardware issue. Should I replace mine now or wait for a fix if it's a S/W issue?

I strongly believe this is a software issue. The iphone 4s had similar issues with the color distortion, but it was more specific to icons and images within the app store. It just so happens that it is located on the keyboard this time. Patience will reveal a solution.

Yup, add me to the list. I first noticed the horizontal, colored lines in the app store but have also seen in when bringing up the keyboard in messages and email. Always seems to be linked to the keyboard. This morning I also had plain white horizontal lines across the screen on my home screen. Swiped to another page and then came back and they were gone. This is my 5th iPhone and it's the first time I've ever experienced something like this. Like others, I'm going to give it a little time to see if there's a software update. I've registered my iPhone, and will go to the Apple Store when it's a little less busy.

I have the same problem and it only happens when I try to put in my password in the App Store. I went to the apple store and they offered to replace my phone, but I opt to wait until the first update to see if it is a software issue first.

I, to, am having this problem. I've had my phone for 6 days and the problem just surfaced today. I was able to capture video of the problem using my ipad. I'm glad I found this post because I think I'll hold off for a while and see if an iOS update fixes the issue. In the meantime I'll save my video on the phone and ipad as proof to take to the Apple store if needed.

I was told by Apple technical support that this is a known issue with iOS6 and is entirely software related. Not hardware. Let's hope it is fixed in a future update.

Just installing an app from the app store asked me for my password - happened when typing into the keyboard element.

Tried it in messages keyboard nothing happned

Went back into app store opened search element (at the top) typed again (a variety of letters) nothing happens.
