iOS 6 battery life terrible

iPad 3 updated to iOS 6 and as usual it was 100% charged when I went to bed. Woke up and battery totally drained. I'm guessing iOS 6.1 is needed ASAP?

"Then why have Apple not acknowledged this glaring defficiency in their product? Why have the prominent tech blogs and journalists publicised it more?

And how do I revert to iOS5 ? This would surely solve all our problems"

a) they don't care, it's not a problem for THEM

b) they are all set, you upgraded

c) no path for iOS 5

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.

Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight. Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A." The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC. Do NOT use an iPhone charger. Do NOT use an iPod charger. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter..

I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.

According to Apple:

Use Your iPad Regularly

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

After all the tablets I have used from the PlayBook, to the Transformer Prime to the iPad I still say even with iOS 6 the iPad still wins performance wise and battery life wise. iOS 5 was perfected to a point so if you can live without FaceBook forwarding, Siri and some of these other new features / downgrades 😉 , I say stick to version 5 until they get a chance to roll out 6.1 or 7!

For those of you that are unaware of how to downgrade your iPad to an older version of iOS, you can read how to do it here! Proceed with caution and always make a backup in iTunes before proceeding.

Well fellow guinea pigs iOS 6.1 notification has hit my iPad this morning and I went for it. Too early to tell if it makes a difference. I used my iPad perhaps one hour today and have 92% left since I charged it last night before the update to 100% - Something weird though I notice on the iPad 3 that the last 10% i.e. between 90% - 100% this portion of the battery takes the longest to charge and I get more juice on this portion of the charge versus the final 10% ... Weird but definitely different than the iPad 2. I think it must be due to the fact the iPad 3 has such a huge battery compared to iPad2.

Not larger but rather thinner. Check unit size comparison of the tablet. There's a millimeter difference between 2 & 3. Cause the processor use less power than the 2. So if your having a longest charging time when it is 90 to 100. The source is easily found. Thinner battery. That 10% consist of a strand portion or equivalent to a string being squeeze into a syringe needle. Note: the string represents power while the needle represents the remaining 10% portion of the battery. Now the question is, can you insert it?

SOLVED --- IN A WAY----

OK.. Now we all agree that there is a battery problem and its after upgrading to IOS 6 and later.... I have struggled like the rest of you and still no close to resolving the problem.....

But I have a workaround that atleast solves the issue of my phone having about 50 to 70% battery when i return home in the night.....I consider this a million times better than returning home with a paper weight in my hand ( Am talking abt my iphone thats switched off)

So this is what I did, i just had a hunch that this might be a battery calibration problem since i saw battery going from 90% to 100% and in some occasions 40% to 20% and sometimes it even turns off at certain percentage of battery remaining.

Every morning I would TURN OFF my iPhone 4 for about 15 to 20 mins. And then when I turned it on it would show the correct battery %. Then i would charge it to 100% takes a max of 2 hrs. Then am good for the day...

I sometimes turning it of at night also if am planning to charge it or if am heading out and need an accurate remaining battery value...

Hope it helps someone atleast...
