iOS 6 battery life terrible

iPad 3 updated to iOS 6 and as usual it was 100% charged when I went to bed. Woke up and battery totally drained. I'm guessing iOS 6.1 is needed ASAP?

Millie Pagan,I doubt very much if this is done on purpose. Computers, smart phones, their software and operating systems are fairly complex systems which changes in their software may work OK most of the time but can have adverse effects on a few. Even though you see this issue reported here quite a bit it is only a small number compared to all those upgrades that worked fine. If you hang around these types of message boards much you will see this type of issue comes up for some with almost every major software update no matter whether it is iPhones, Macs, Windows PCs or even Linux computers.

I finally seen the heavy battery drain on my iPhone with OS 6 the other day. You could tell something was causing it's processor/chip to max out since it was acting sluggish and apps were almost unresponsive. In my case a simple restart did not fix it. Just like with iOS 5 I had to close all apps in the "Recently Used" list when you double tap the Home button then restart the iPhone by shutting it down comepletely. Once I started it up again it has been running perfectly fine for the past 4 days with normal battery life. My iPad is still running fine.

Ok, couldn't wait to see if Apple would make an attempt to even acknowledge that something has changed and would offer some guidance, certainly not with their other big problems...Maps.

I restored the OS via iTunes, wiping out all data. Proceeded to setup as new install because it doesn't have my latest backup and didn't let me restore from iCloud when connected to iTunes.

Disconnected from iTunes and restored again from iCloud and restored my last backup.

2nd day, 100% at 7am, 30% at 5pm. Much better than with ios5. Used 3G all day and I never do that.

I'd love to know why I had to do so, but at least it seems much much better.

Just to quantify things, often I'd start using iPad2 around 2-3 pm. On weekends, I go to bed around 2:30-3:00 am and I'd still have 30-40% or maybe even more left. Today, I started around the usual time and then at around 9:30 pm, I got the error that I have less than 10% battery life left.

I'm so sorry that I 'upgraded" to iOS6. I hope they find a solution soon. If this continues, I'll stop using iPad and switch to my Android tablet.

I had the same problem, when my iPhone 4S was on iOS 5.1.1 the battery would drain only about 10% overnight. When I upgraded to iOS 6 it would drain about 30% !!!. My email settings were the same, its advisable not to use “Alerts” alert style in Notification center. I tried turning off various features like locations etc. but there was hardly any difference. I then deleted the Facebook integration, but I still use Facebook though the “Facebook” app. There was a tremendous increase in the battery life. Now when left overnight it drains about 11%. So its back to normal

The bug I think is in the Facebook integration it keeps syncing online.

Hope this helps you guys.

I would recommend a full reset and not turning on this feature.

I charge my iPhone in the morning and it is dead by mid-afternoon! Nothing has changed on my end! I check email and make a phone call or two. Other than that it is on standby.

I am used to getting a full day and part of the second day on one charge.

The battery drain is abysmal and renders the phone almost useless to me!

I hope Apple addresses this issue soon...

Apple could have released a way back to ios 5 on the very first day instead they left us hanging. 3 hour battery life, wont charge properly, turn of everything we bought phone to use , reboot, reset, restore, try to downgrade, downgrade itunes so it will accept ios downgrade and now the touch screen is buggy and wifi not connecting after it was fixed the first time. IOS 6 ruined iphone and ipad for a significant amount of users and for many made it unusable. And apple has yet to offer a single solution. A class action suit would be an appropriate motivator for a company that is laughing {litterally, listen to the techs on the support calls] that continue to down load

User uploaded file and its full page ad of advantages including the worlds most beautiful maps.

I spent 15 hours on this and I am done trying to fix Apples mistake when they will not lift a finger to fix it themselfs , cooperate with google to bring us the maps we want, or even be transparent about the depth of the problems. I suggest apple supply ever compalaintant with a new device with IOS 5 until they can be honest enough to recognize the problem.

I went to the genius bar with this problem Friday and they did a full restore on my phone. It's been two days now getting my phone back together with my music and my apps so today will be the first test to see how long the battery will last. I'll use it like I normally would and see what happens. I sure hope it's fixed though - I don't want to go through another restore again. I lost all the data that was on my phone - in the apps.

Not a IOS 6 problem... Background apps, wifi, bluetooth on all the time etc. 3rd party apps running in the background are notorious battery wasting. Even if they don't visibly show up... I would limit the way the apps interact in the background.

There is no official Apple supported way, and there should be absolutely no reason to downgrade to IOS 5...

I'm sorry, but I believe it is an iOS 6 problem. I never had any problems like this until I upgraded to iOS 6. I realize that temporal associations need to be taken with a grain of salt, but this is too much of a coincidence not to be related to the iOS upgrade.

While on iOS 5, battery life on my phone was constant, with no sudden draining of the battery. Since updrading, I have had this happen 3 times, once with the phone fully charged at night, and completely discharged in the morning, 7.5 hours later.
