iPhone 5 battery life is way worse than iPhone 4

I just got an iphone 5 and I restored a backup from my iPhone 4 so I have the same settings. But the iphone 5 drains way faster than my two year old very well used iPhone 4 which is running 5.1.1. Is it because of IOS 6? Just leaving it sitting overnight lost about half the battery. My iPhone 4 hardly uses any battery while it sits overnight.

Or do I have a bad battery on my new phone?

I got a hole 1 hours extra. Well it started out the day good but after 10:00am it started to die again spent 30 min on the phone with apple moving up the ranks since I've been trouble shooting this for 4 days now and they have me going to the store to get a new one. 4-1/2 hours of battery life is unacceptable and spending 4 days troubleshooting this is unacceptible as well.

This is an update to my previous post in page 11 and 12.

After try to do everything from reset all settings, delete all aps to setup as new phone I got improvement with standy by which only lost 1% per 2 hours. However, when using the phone as Hot Spot in stand by mode it start losing 1% every 3 minutes which mean I only have around 5 hours to use the phone everyday. But when I'm using the phone as normal with surf web and listing to music and video it down to 1% per 1-2 minutes.

So conclusion:

- In stand by I have best score is 200hrs which is close to advertising of 225hrs stand by (this score is only base on 1%/2hr drop not actual test for stand by from 100% to 0% coz I only have 1 phone, cannot test like that).

- In Hot Spot use mode I only have around 5 hours again base on 30 minutes test only.

- In normal use, I have 1hr30mins to 3hrs30mins which is way bellow the mark.

I can say it is a definately a bad battery since not everyone has this issue, yet there are alot of ppl having this issue but some not so it might not be software problem. Just bad batch of battery.

Looking to a replacement now.

@MIBLegend

i am experiencing a very similar issue.

I did a DFU reset and restore as new phone.

Installed nothing on it save the facebook app and a bmx game.

Linked gmail to mail account via exchange with push enabled - i received 5 email per day max.

Charged it to 100% and unplugged it before going to bed...at 100%.

All notifications/locations/passbook/icloud/gps/bluetooth are off.

I picked it up when I woke up....it still read 100%..

Promising, I thought.

I've sent one email and a couple of texts. no calls.

played maybe 5 minutes of BMX; checking batt status every now and again.

it's now at 89% and decreasing rapidly dropping 1% everytime I touch it !

As i've mentioned before, yesterday i went to she apple store and they replaced my iphone for a new one, got home, setted up as new, loaded back up contacts from icloud and sintalled apps manually via app store. LTE is set to OFF at the moment. Let the battery die completly, bofore pluging the phone in... charged the battery overnight and unplugged this morning.

So far so good results are a bit better than yesterday's test. Here are some screen shots:

This is Previous iphone 5 test from yesterday after DFU install (similar battery discharge as before DFU no change)

As you can see i've used the phone a lot more today and battery still at 83%, still nothing to write home about it but it's better than the last phone.

Today is the first test, i'll keep the updates coming for the next couple of days to see if there are any changes.

cheers,

dan

Ok I'm at 54% now with 2:55 usage. All I've been doing is twitter, Facebook, and some web browsing (paying a bill, online searching for a case, checking out some news.)

Brightness at 40%, all on LTE, no push for mail, most location services off (I think 2 are allowed to do anything). All my spotlight stuff is off, no Bluetooth or wifi on.

Maybe I should return for a swap...

I downloaded the app colour splash at roughly 70%. After using the app for about 10 minutes my battery life had drained to 31%. My iPhone 5 then felt rather warm and I watched my battery life drain very rapidly. 11:20am - 30%, 11:56am 18%, 12:12pm 12%. I turned my phone off and on. Seems to have stopped the rapid drainage and phone has cooled down. F****D!!

Hello again everyone.

On page 8 I mentioned I had a problem with battery life and explained my normal usage habits with the phone. On page 11 i replied with the results of my first day after a DFU and new phone setup... running from 9am to about midnight on a single charge.. with some features turned off.

Today is day 2 of testing after a DFU... and... I turned all features back ON. There really wasn't anything left OFF to try and save battery life. 40-50% brightness and LTE / wifi on... blue tooth still off as i don't use it.

It's 1am now and i've still got 12% left... today had lots of texting, ipod listening, a few calls, and lots of email photo sharing, facbooking... and pretty much everything i ever did with my iphone 4...

It was a completely normal use day for me. And to check exact numbers, i reset the usage this morning when I unplugged it from charging.

Usage screen shows...

5 hours 34 min of usage

16 hours 1 min of standby

Call times were reset at 9am also

Current period 1 hour 3 min

Cellular data sent 38MB, recieved 62MB

anyways... i have a lightning cable charger at home, at work and in my car... i haven't even felt the need to jump up and grab one since i did the restore...

I'll be fine with my phone like this... for now. 🙂
