Poor Battery Life iPhone5

I've had my iPhone less than 24 hours and have noticed the battery life is being depleted at a much higher rate than what I consider normal. This morning turned on my phone after turning it OFF last night and connected to the charger all night.

I adjusted some settings to match my iPhone 4 added PW's to some app's. After about 20 minutes of playing with my phone the power level dropped from 100% to 92%...no calls.

Anyone else notice poor battery life issues.........or do you thing that's normal?

I have a 4S with the iOS 6 update. My wife has a 4S without the update. Our usages are just about the same and the battery life is just about the same. But Apple promised better battery life for the 5 and from what I am reading here no one is getting it. But you know anyone getting great battery life is not looking for a forum to brag only us who are not are here griping. I hope we get something quick from Apple improving battery life for iOS 6 software. I am not one who lives on the cutting edge and so I didn't go down and get a new 5 because of the problems associated with a new product. I usually stay a generation behind but with Apple releasing the software for iOS 6 to the iphone 4 and 4S I got caught up in the problem or maybe not when I compare to my wife's battery life and mine. Guess I will have to live with it.

I am almost certain it is too many apps running that was draining my battery. 45 mins on the bus to work this morning listening to music and 20% of battery was gone. I had a few apps that stream data for work running and didnt think too much about it because i have used them for a couple of years on my old iphone4 without noticing this problem. I killed the processes and for the past 3 hours there has been no noticeable drop in battery level. One thing I will mention, I am not sure it's just to do with the sheer number of apps running...I wasnt running more than 5 or 6, but I think it could be also to do with how the apps run in the background. In a very un-technical way of thinking, maybe they are not quite as in the background compared with the old iOS.

Being this is my first LTE phone. I failed to realize one thing..... My wifi is now slower than the carrier. I ran all weekend with both wifi and LTE on. My battery life was very poor. For the next few days, I will leave wifi off, and I've turned push off for my email accounts (of which I have three setup icloud, gmail, exchange). All other notifications and locations services are on. Following a weekend of at least 75 apps updating, I think things will stablize.

Will post up my findings later this week.

Have been having poor battery life with my iPhone 5 as well. Ran down to roughly 45% with texting and reading this forum in about 3 hours. Took it into apple and they said the battery was defective. Replace, and opened with **** scratches. Apple needs to get their stuff together. If you're really getting awful battery life i'd take it in.

So they said the battery was defective eh? Aside from the scratches, how has the battery been since the swap? Same as before or did it actually improve?

I just wanted to post a quick update.

I plugged my phone in earlier today when it was at about 52% up to 100%. While it was charging I turned "Push" for my iCloud email, made sure that LTE was OFF as well as closed up all running apps in the background.

I left the phone sitting on the table for about 2 hours, touching it only once to take a quick photo, then took a look at the battery percentage and usage. I was surprised, it was still at 100% and the usage seemed much more realistic with 2 hours of standby and only 18 mins of usage.

Doing some simple calculations I realized that if (based on these numbers) I left the phone down for 8 hours as I did last night, it would have only had about 1 hour and 12 minutes of usage as opposed to the 5 and a half hours from last night, which is much more acceptable.

So I don't know if it was the closing of the apps running in the background or the fact that I turned off "Push", but it seems that at least for the time the phone is just sitting locked and idle, something worked.

Hey Guys,

New to this forum, I too was having the same issues. I tried all of the suggestions here, LTE Off, Screen Brightness down, Reset Network settings and nothing helped.

I went into the location services and found that a lot of random things had access to the GPS including the Photo's application. I was not even using the App it was on in the background once I turned the location services to Photo's off and all the other random applications my battery life went up substantially.

I know the GPS is notorious for killing battery and I am guessing that has a lot to do with it.

Is it just me or does every new iphone release, which promises better battery management, have a battery problem. If you search iphone 3, 3GS, 4, 4S and now 5 you will find people complaining about poor battery life. Are we expection too much? I know many people who had a auxillary packs for their 4s. I guess we wait for Apple to come up with something but I am disappointed with battery life on my phone and I have turned off everything I can and don't see improvement. Hopefully someone will find the clue and I can ride his/her coattails.

To some extent I don't think it is a hardware issue. Apple has updated software in the past which has helped battery life. There could be something in the background that we are not seeing that is actively killing our batteries. Apple is most likely aware of what it is and will probably release an update soon to fix it. That is what we get for being the first waive of people that purchase new items.

I had excellent battery life on my iPhone 4, too. I always kept wi-fi and location services on 24/7. Made sure not to keep too many apps running in background. The only thing that's changed for me since the UPS man came on Friday is LTE. So I've turned off LTE and turned on battery percentage for a day as an experiment.

I'm having some battery problems as well.

First off, this is my first iPhone. I was pretty pumped and I really liked it. However, one of the big features that drew me in was the battery life. 8 hours of 3G/LTE browsing time was huge for me because I browse a lot on my smartphone.

However, I feel I'm not getting that. So far today, 2 hours and 49 minutes of usage and 3 hours and 42 minutes of standby and I'm down to 64% in the battery. Getting from 100% to 99% took about half an hour of actually using my phone. Since then it's been going down pretty fast. I've been using iMessage and kept it on for about an hour and a half and probably dropped about 30%.

I've done some steps I've read in this forum. I've backed up and restored. I've clearned the settings. I currently only have Siri and Weather tracking my location. I was hoping that this phone would be one where I wouldn't have to charge it every night, and still have enough battery to get me through some of the next day.

I guess I could turn Siri and Location Services right off, but those were some of the reasons I bought the phone in the first place. Do my statistics seem like they're poor battery life, or good battery life? I'm not really sure as I've never had an iPhone to compare it with.
