Thank you for your answer, this solved my problem.

I had the same battery problem after upgrading from an older iPhone.

Also thank you for being a critical thinker and posting useful info rather than posting arguments and personal opinions in regards to the problem.

i switch off all location services, push mail and closing all the apps. There are still apps running in the background like camera, phone, app store, mail applications. Is this normal? Even with this apps running, there are 50+ other processes running when i check with my sys activity manager which cannot be stop.

Standby isnt draining much but when i turn it on to use, it is draining like 1% every 2mins or so and this after i tried DFU restore and setting my phone as a new phone. Before that it was draining 1% every few mins even during standby.

Poor poor battery life on the iPhone 5 compared to my old iPhone 4.

I never get low battery on my iPhone 4 when I get home from work.

With the iPhone 5, I am stressed!!!!

    0730 hours - 100%

    0800 hours - 95%

    1800 hours - 10%

    1845 hours - 1%

I tried reset all settings. Will see how tomorrow.

I thought the reset worked.....and it did some what.  Im for sure getting better battery life but I later in the day figured out that Siri was OFF.  I turned it back on and the battery drop appears to be near what it was before the reset.

So it appears that Siri is talking to Apple (on it's own?) and draining the battery.......I'll attempt to explain below.

My wife and I got the iPhone 5, hers White, mine Black.  Both AT&T and 16GB models.  Same apps, same settings.

I've used 75MB's of data (4 days), and she's used 0.6MB's (4 days).  I've used the internet for less than 10 minutes LTE/4G and less than 60 minutes WiFi in that 4 day period (no audio or video on LTE/4G).  I'm connected to WiFi 80% to 90% more than my wife's phone.  BTW, I only used Siri 5 time, all WiFi.

    So go figure?

I'm not sure if you had any solutions yet with your phone.  I had the same problem until 2 days ago.  I had to do the following and it appears to have fixed the problem (for me at least).

    • Siri can cause a huge drain but you don't need to turn it off completely to fix it.  Make sure you have the "Raise to Speak" feature OFF.
    • Only use Location Services for items you really need it for such as Maps, Weather or whatever.
    • Auto-Brightness is ON and at 50%.
    • Notifications are at a minimum.
    • Turn off any apps that constantly run like Pandora, Skype, Songza, etc...
    • Let the phone completely drain and shut off by itself and then recharge to 100%.

Basically, I had the exact same issue that you are showing until I did all of that above.  Now it works perfectly.

    • 6:30am - 100%
    • 10:32am - 99%
    • 1:00pm - 92%
    • 4:00pm - 89%
    • 6:30pm - 86%

After doing 2 full charges by letting teh battery drain to below 10% my phone is back to normal. Charged it last night and now after 14 hours and some use im still sitting at 85%

    Hey Guys,

After playing with a lot of variables I think I have fixed my issue. My phone is no longer getting hot and the battery drain is minimized borderline fixed completely. Go to settings, location services, system services.

Turn everything off except compass calibration, diagnostics, and traffic. Once you do that you should notice a lot better battery life. Have been using my phone for 30 minutes on 3G and 1 hour and a half standby and my battery percent says 98%. Yesterday it would be at 80%.

    Hope this works for everyone.

Looks like I have a solid battery.

6 hours, 19 minutes since I unplugged. Been using the phone for about an hour and 20 minutes. Battery is at 88%. Location services on for Maps, Siri and Safari. Siri is on as well.

    Thanks, will try that.

My batt life got much better after the RESET but it seems like it's starting to heat up once i use apps like FB, etc.

It was at full charge at around 1am this morning and by 10.30am it has hit 70% while on IDLE.

Will also let the batt drain completely again before i hit the next recharge.

Have done a Reset all settings and run down to <15% before full recharge, turned off a number of location tracking settings etc and battery life seems much better - taking 24 hours to get to 30% instead of 8-10!  I've not done scientific tests but feel its a mix of new battery/new user/updates and "settling in".  Will keep an eye on it though.

I was loosing 1% per minute, but after a reset, a deep chyle charge and a couple of days to observe it, I'm much happier.

Note: I have lte, raise to activate Siri are off, everything else is on. I like push and location services...

I'm now using 1% per hour if my phone is left alone.

11-12 hours of streaming music over 3G (mog), I suspect some level of caching is involved here

And usage in general is okay.

Ive been following this thread in detail over the last cpuple of days as I too have had serious battery drain issues with my iPhone 5 64GB UK. The battery would only last a few hours and I could pretty much watch the percentages roll off!

One thing I had in common was I did a restore from iCloud backup when I first got my iPhone 5. The backup was from an iPhone 4. Yesterday I decided to go for it and Restore the phone in iTunes and setup as a new phone. So far its made a HUGE difference and the battery is lasting way longer...so far.

    Cheers

    Ben

I was experiencing the same battery drain as everyone else the first couple days. I decided to RESTORE the phone and set up as a new phone not from a backup. It was a little annoying to have to redo all of my settings and content. However, after the restore and 2 complete battery drains with recharging, I'm happy to report a HUGE difference in the battery life!! I am very happy with the battery life now!

When I Reset All Settings things improved for me regarding battery life. However, I still can detect poorer than iPhone 4 battery performance. I really am trying to avoid the install as new even though the reports here are positive that it is successful. First I'm trying a couple things to see if I can identify what is causing the poor battery performance.

I've turned off in Settings, Privacy, Notification Services:

    1. Passbook; I plan on using Passbook, but I don't care if I have to tap on the place I'm going to to get my card up on display.

    2. On the Location Services screen, scrolling all the way to the bottom reveals System Services menu. There I turned off Location Based iAds. While it seems logical I'd want to see ads near me, it's illogical to think I want to see ads let alone at the expense of my battery.

I figure that these two settings are like theReminders at location setting in that with all of these activated iPhone is using power constantly determining one's location.

Though only an hour ago, I kind of have the feeling these changes aren't really helping, but I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling all those apps, settings, etc. again. I guess it's like upgrading Mac OS X, do you do a clean install or rely on the easier choice of just letting the OS X installer upgrade the OS.
