iPhone 5 keyboard problem - typing issue 'Q s' & 'P s'

Anyone having problems with missing letters while typing Q or P at the left or right end of the screen keyboard?

If you type with your finger a little closer to the edge you get no response on iPhone 5. I just tested this isue against my iPhone 4, and the difference is really noticeable. Try touching Q or P in english layout with 'half' finger the other 'half' closer to the edge...it simple doesn't recognize the type (in iPhone 4 works lots better definitelly).

As I am left handed, can maybe have some conflict with the screen calibration, but I keep on missing 'P' and 'Q' while typing all the time, which never happened with iPhone 4......

Any feedback/comments? I know it is maybe not a bug, but a big comfort issue, affecting only actual Apple long time users, and it is keep annoying me

Here the example with iPhone 4, the 'Q' is recognized with the finger in that position (sorry folks, the picture was taken with Blackberry):

And here with my new iPhone 5, 'Q' not detected with finger in 'the same' position:

Interesting topic.

I noticed it as I am typing the same way I used to on my iphone 4 but seem to delete all the time.

So I thinking that hitting the enter button not correctly and touching the reverse instead

Then I noticed that when playing games, the controlls are very unpredictable.

I play the same games as before but the controlls are very very hard to handly. One slight mobe of your finger and it just wont react anymore ... which isnt very good when playing a game.

Is this something apple can fix with an update as I find this difficult typing and controlling games terribly annoying?

yes common problem it seems to be an issue with the digitizer..dpending on what vendor made your lcd/digitizer you migh havebeenaffected by this problem. Only three vendors make this component LG, Sharp and JAapan Disply ..it seems the sharp lcds are giving this problem. aftermarket lcds are just now becoming available for like 279$ !! compared 40 dollars for iphone 4/4s lol

Just an update on this, but since adding a bumper to my iphone 5, I'm able to type much more accurately and without the double-tripping I was having before, so my speed of use is back up to iPhone 4 levels. It doesn't make it easier to pick the "p"s and "q"s, but it saves the errors with repeated characters and an issue where a whole message would get erased character by character before I could send it (multiple repeat of the erase character?). I can only think that the without a bumper, my other hand is gripping the phone more closely and the fingers of that hand are in close proximity and hence causing false input? It also seems to be related to relative skin resistance / humidity. Adding a bumper has removed most of the frustration of using this phone, but it calls into question the level of testing before this was shipped.

I have a bumper/case on my IP5 and the keyboard issue hasn't changed. I believe the calibration/sensitivity is WAY off. This was not an issue on the IP4 so the fact that typing has become problematic, is a symptom of something not quite right here. Even if third party apps refelect this issue more, I think this screen should have enough sensor points to compensate for different keyboards. Dead spots on ANY Apple screen seems unacceptable to me. I am curious if a software update will fix this or if in fact, it is a hardware defect and they will have to recall ALL of these units. (or would they)?

This is exactly what I had and I realised that wrapping my hand around the phone caused a multiple gesture trigger.

(I hold the phone in one hand and type with a finger of the other)

I put a plastic bumper on my phone, and I haven't had a problem since.

It's just too sensitive otherwise.

(This doesn't cure the problems trying to select keys at the edge - they are still realitvely hard to select, but at least I can type quickly and my messages don't get auto-erased.)

I'm having the exact same problem It is very frustrating especially when all of your text starts deleting. I thought it was the screen technology at first as did many other posters here.

However one morning when typing a text from my desk where I have sync'd a bluetooth keyboard I experienced the exact same behavior. Not touching the device at all. A reboot of the device usually clears it up momentarily.

Also noticed that sometimes my screen zooms when in sleep mode and must reset to get it back to normal.

I dont know what to do now.

For my iPhone 5 all the letters seem to work fine however in MANY apps such as YouTube the space bar only works about 20% of the time. Talk about being annoying between every single word!!!

It's totally fine in all the native apps. Weird. Almost everything I have is apple but I get a sence they are slipping a little on quality these days to have deadlines met. :(

Hope that helps.

I noticed this problem too and find it very annoying.

To me, it seems like a software problem, maybe you can make the following test also:

Open a painting software and choose a single freehand line tool.

My experience is:

When I slide my finger with the line tool from far RIGHT to far LEFT, the line starts not exactly at the right edge, but it paints exactly to the left edge.

When I slide my finger with the line tool from far LEFT to far RIGHT, the line starts not exactly at the left edge, but it paints exactly to the right edge.

Can someone confirm this? If yes, then it might be some software functionality that tries to prevent unwanted touch activity...
