iPhone 5 keyboard problem - typing issue 'Q s' & 'P s'

Anyone having problems with missing letters while typing Q or P at the left or right end of the screen keyboard?

If you type with your finger a little closer to the edge you get no response on iPhone 5. I just tested this isue against my iPhone 4, and the difference is really noticeable. Try touching Q or P in english layout with 'half' finger the other 'half' closer to the edge...it simple doesn't recognize the type (in iPhone 4 works lots better definitelly).

As I am left handed, can maybe have some conflict with the screen calibration, but I keep on missing 'P' and 'Q' while typing all the time, which never happened with iPhone 4......

Any feedback/comments? I know it is maybe not a bug, but a big comfort issue, affecting only actual Apple long time users, and it is keep annoying me

Here the example with iPhone 4, the 'Q' is recognized with the finger in that position (sorry folks, the picture was taken with Blackberry):

And here with my new iPhone 5, 'Q' not detected with finger in 'the same' position:

I am having the same issues reg. the iPhone 5 with my iPod touch 5.... when I first noticed was when tryng to install apps from the Ap store either purchased and or updates.. the problem was more noticeable at the 1/3 bottom of the screen... I also noticed in some apps, where I do need to use the edge of the screen. the screen is not as responsive as my iPhone 4 S neither with my iPad nor ever was with my previous iPod...

While reading and trying to scroll the issue is again noticeable and in some games where timing is impo... the having to hit several times, it is quite frustrating... I find this new screen sort of clunky and I do have to tweak my fingers in ordet to make it work...

to get the letters at the edge, I found that if I hit with my fingers turn toward the center, I can get the letters work...but...surely this is not the most efficient manner to type.

I have not tried to use it while charging... but I do notice at times just having a life of its own...sort of ghostly...and Haloween has already ended [;-)]...

I tend to feel is more of a hardware problem than a software problem.. thought I do hope is the later for it would have more of a solution.

I wish they did not try to be so thin....prefer a reliable device over a thinner one.

Hoping to exchange mine soon at a store....but all the complaints and comments concerned me that it is a chronic issue and all the 5th devices have a shortcoming with their screens.

Will await your responses

I have an app for art...and what I did place my finger trying to place same pressure and it is interesting the diff or none color in various places in the screen. My husband is an astronomer and very experiences with curvutures in a surface ...he was able to detect a non flat surface...could this be the problem??.. the screen not been perfectly flat and so not all areas having the same sensitivity while others none at all... Im not sure Im explaning my concern clearly enough... but ...maybe others take a look at their screens, and see if they are flat or ??.

By the way I have followed the advice of sending a feedback to apple.com/feedback...

I hope more do so, and we might get their attention.

please let all know.

I have the same exact problem. I want to take it back to the store for another one, but fearful it will just result in the same issue. Also, I have found that the keyboard is more responsive when holding it in my hands but hardly responds at all when it is laying on a surface and trying to type. Has anyone else noticed the problem being worse when not holding it?

What have you done about this? I had the same issue, called support and they suggested doing a restore. (I just assumed this was standard practice when they have no other ideas about what to do)

I did exactly that -- (restore with new firmware via a USB cable and iTunes) and the issue seems to be resolved.

PLEASE give this a shot and let me know if it works for you as well!

Got 5 yesterday from service - they made Restore (maybe DFU) but didn't told what exactly. The problem seems corrected a little, but it persist. After that at home I made restore from Itunes (only phone numbers and gallery) and the situation is like at the beginning: 1-2mm shifted pressure point at the right column. After that I saw that there's update of IOS - 6.02 and made it. The situation is like after I got it from service - problem is not like at the beginning but is there. Still you must type twice or more to activate column at the right - like sensitivity is different from that at the center and pressure point is shifted now around 0.5-1mm.

Checked how is without SIM card but no difference.

Anyone tried app tonemap how is working at him/his screen?

----UPDATE----

Good news! I think I just had a phone that was a lemon. My power button recently went out and got it exchanged for a new one from an apple store...

The "new" phone 5 does not have this typing issue and everything is running flawlessly. The spacebar and all other letters are working just like they are suppose to. Hopefully that helps. Maybe anyone still having this issue can exchange just like I did while the phone is still under warranty. This is NOT normal and you don't have to deal with it.

I'm pretty sure this is a software issue...it seems that if I have my finger on the P in portrait orientation in a spot that doesn't register (typically dead center on the key or slightly to the right of it), and I keep my finger in the same spot while rotating the phone to landscape so that the letter p is now part of the space bar, the phone has no problem picking up a spacebar depress, and I can move even closer to the edge of the screen and have it still work.

I tried a complete restore and it still didn't fix the issue. I tried a few store models as well and they were the same.

Did the restore. Didn't fix the problem. They said if the restore didn't work to call & request a replacement (while still under warranty) even though I purchased the phone thru Verizon. Went to Apple Store to exchange. The tech had huge fingers, and had no problem with making the P and backspace keys work. I handed him my stylus so he could see what I was experiencing. He agreed the right side was not sensitive to the middle of the P. So, he exchanged it. The new one is better, though about 1 mm from both sides is not sensitive. But, it's good enough to work most of the time. The tech at the store & Apple Support said not many people are calling to report this problem or exchange phones because of the keyboard.

I had an iPhone 4 previously and then switched to Samsung Galaxy Note and Note II. This week I sold my Note II and bought an iPhone 5. Pretty sour feeling spending almost double the money on the iPhone - only to have these kind of problems.

It seems this could be a software problem. Like in the posts above, I first tried Color Pencil and saw the same problem: about 3 millimeter on the right edge in portrait mode is not usable. But then trying Draw, I can draw all the way to the right edge but about one millimeter not reachable on left edge!

Not sure if the drawing applications are the best way to test the touchscreen as a lot have not been upgraded to iphone 5 yet. I purchased a stylus and tested the exact location of where the p key will register. It seems that anything to the right of dead center on the 'P' key will not cause it to register. I thought one of the store models was registering the 'P' key better than my phone when using my finger, but I brought the same stylus tested it there with the same results....P will only register dead center and to the left of the key....The Q is the same-dead center or to the right of the key. I tested 3 store models and they were all like this. However, I can easily slide the screen up and down (such as in the photo app) while the stylus is far to the edge of the screen, meaning that the touchscreen certainly can register at the extreme edges. You can also slide left to right on the top level of the keyboard, and the P will not release until you are far to the edge of the screen. So, perhaps the keyboard can be updated to allow key presses a little closer to the edge. Until then, I'm getting used to it...love the iphone in all other aspects.
