iPhone 5 Microphone not working?

Hi everyone,

I got my new iPhone 5 yesterday in the mail and after I finished setting it up I called my husband only to find out he couldn't hear me. I tried recording a voicememo and the sound was so low I could barely makeout what I said. I removed the cover I had bought and the results remained unchanged, did a hard reset, nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix this? I would be really upset to have to wait 2 to 3 weeks to get a new working phone! 😟

Thanks!

My wife told me that her iPhone 5 microphone did not work. Then I found here.

After I understood the reason, I found the small holes of the one side of the Mic of iPhone had been covered with chocalate.

I cleaned them off and the microphone work again.

So please check your iPhone's bottom. The problem maybe caused by the holes of the microphone be coverd.

hi everyone

I`m from Jordan, and we don't have any apple stores here , and i got my iphone5 through a relative of mine whom is studying in USA , he bought it from Apple Stores from Georgia , about 3 weeks ago.

unfortunately i could'nt catch him before he leaves back to US so i could return the iphone back with him

the same issue of problem you have, i have too in my i phone5, i cant be heard while on a voice call. only If i switch to speaker the microphone works fine , the main mic seems to be causing the issues

the problem started few days after i began to use my iphone, and since there is no Apple stores here in Jordan, i don't know what to do, and am realy disappointed too 😠

Another case of mic too low. My Iphone5 has only 2 weeks, and today no one could heard me. I made tests and found this topic, and the symptoms are the same.

It's strange though because when I activate the speakerphone mode, the other person starts to hear me immediately. But in the normal mode, people say its too low, not understandable.

That's why I guess it's a software problem, the noise canceling malfunction or other.

I'll look for Apple assistance because we don't have Apple Stores in Brazil. I'll have to return to my cell company.

Best,

Alexandre

I'm having the same problem of you all with the mic of Iphone 5 (only works with the speaker and earphone). The cellphone was bought on April in the US and I live in Brazil and in my city there is no apple store and there is no Apple Authorized Service Provider.

This is my 1st Apple product and I'm very sad and upset about it... 😠😢

Hey!

I bought my iphone 5 from Malaysia on February , the A1429 GSM model. On the first few months it worked perfectly fine and recently the microphone problem came. When the phone is on speaker, it works well. I cleaned the dust off the microphone twice and then it was okay for a short while and again the problem comes. The other person in the call says that he can hear me as if I am speaking from far away.

This is the first iPhone I've bought and I am disappointed about this issue. The main function any phone should be having is to receive and make calls conveniently.

Hope apple will provide a solution for this issue soon.

Thank you!

Hi Krystal and Everyone,

I recieved an iPhone 5 last week and i have been having this problem for sometime now, i tried all sorts of things such as restoration / back up ect and the issue just comes on and off.

I live in Sri Lanka therefore i will not be able to get a replacement, however my phone does still have its repair warranty till Oct 11th 2013 or so, I dont have anyone to send the phone across to the USA to address this issue so i will try and sort this out somehow.

Anyways the ONLY HASSLE FREE SOLUTION to this noise cancellation mic problem is to cover the little mic hole between the rear camera and the flash using one finger while you are on a call (Face to phone) this almost immediately solves the problem, if you have no other solution this is the best i could find out so try it for yourself, it shouldnt be too hard to get used. I have no choice so i will keep going this way.

I love my 64GB Black iPhone 5 too much to give it up, so here goes!

I hope this helps you all!

Cheers,

Daham

THIS IS THE SOLUTION we were waiting for all along.

…And I was right. The noise canceling feature WAS the problem, and it NEEDED to be able to be turned OFF since the beginning, if degrading quality of a microphone 60 years like this "new feature" did.

It's a shame than instead of "we are working on the subject" or "we'll provide you a way to turn it off", Apple has rather remove my posts where I pointed others to my answer.
