Home sharing not showing all songs and albums

Having a bit of an issue with home sharing and it's driving me nuts as I just can't seem to solve it.

I enabled home sharing today as my mrs wanted to listen to music on our iPad while she was cooking.

Now here comes the issue, all songs in the iTunes library are showing under the songs tab of the music app but nothing will show under the artist or album section so I don't get any album artwork etc. How ever on my iPhone they show up under albums and artists tab.

The only way to play a song would be to look through the entire library where I'd rather just select the album.

Does anybody have any idea why this is doing it?

Some basic info on my setup.

Ipad 2 running ios6 and latest iTunes installed on a pc.

Pc is hardwired into a wireless router.

All music is stored on my NAS.

I tried autora_watees sugegstion.

I recreated the itunes library following the instructions on that apple support page.

The library took about 20 minute to recreate as I have a lot of songs.

I switched back on home sharing and went to my iPad and opened the sharing music library.

The iPad started reading the library. My hopes were high.

Unfortunately as before only about a dozen artists were shown.

So I could not click on an artist to find their songs.

So again I tried filtering the songs to find the ones I wanted.

Music app then crashed as it did before.

So it was worth a go but this made no differnce to the problem I was experiencing.

Perhaps this only happens with large music libraries or there is somethign else wrong with my iTunes library.

Whatever the problem I have decided to give up. As it stands I cannot resolve the problem. It would be good if in future versions of iTunes that it was able to diagnose problems with the library itself and maybe just fix them automatically.

Unfortunatley this means that home sharing between iTunes and an iPad which should be the coolest feature ever... is of no use to me. I do wonder howe many people actually use home sharing and if it actually works for them.

+1 here on your issue. Home sharing with my iPad 3 has not worked properly since I mistakenly upgraded to iOS 6 on the iPad. iOS 5.1.1 was perfect and all TV shows and movies and music showed up in the right categories, in the right season and episode order and were all playable on the iPad.

That is not the case now and it is hit and miss whether they show up, whether the library loads and whether I can actually control them when they do launch.

I wish I could go back to 5.1.1 easily.

Signing out of and back into Home sharing isn't working for me unfortunately. Rebooting my iMac and iPad isn't working either. I'm getting all kinds of strange stuff, from my full library not showing to the wrong album art displaying for an artist, to no album art at all. I'm guessing there's a memory leak or some issue with caching that was introduced with iOS6 in the music app.

re WozzaX's idea. Tried that. Worked once then next time it did not. Maybe you could try it in a day or so and see if it still works for you. Like grovecontrol, i have lost the will to continue ever trying fixes for this. If a totally new update comes for iTunes and the iPad i mght give it a go. In the mean time i've switched over to Spotify for music and StreamToMe for watching videos on the iPad. Neither are as good as home sharing should be but both are totally reliable.

Decided to waste another few hours of another Sunday morning looking at this after Markomann's idea.

I followed the notes Markmann mentioned on uninstalling all Apple applications and then reinstalled them.

I did this very carefully and it took at least 30minutes.

To my great delight all my library was still there which I have to say did worry me even though the notes did say that removing iTunes does not remove your music or films.

So with bated breath I switched on home sharing and connected the iPad to home sharing on iTunes.

I open the Music app and looked at at the library.... Intrerersting it was all there. Could it be fixed?

So with excitement I did my test... Search for 'Amy Winehouse' in the artists list. Surely this time it will work...

The iPad Music app crashed. After about 30 seconds it closed itself.

I then opened the music app again and went back inot sharing again... and only a dozen artists were showing.

aakakakakakakaaaaghghhgghhgghgh!

SO... Uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT fix the problem ... for me.

I now officially give up on this problem and will not be using Home sharing for music on my iPad again.. Unless someone is able to give me back the hours I have wasted on this.

Its not Au revoir ... its goodbye.

Thanks for letting us know berniecmills. I didn't think this would work.

The music player and video player both have issues. Sometimes the only way for me to exit from watching a video is to do a hard reboot of the iPad. The video controls refuse to appear when i tap the screen.

I also hate the inconsistency between the iPhone, iPad and Apple tv players.

At this point I'm almost more worried about iTunes 11 than excited.

Bernie...

I am sorry for your increased frustration with it all. In my case, the dysfunction of my new Apple TV device is what prompted me to pursue a resolution to the Home Sharing platform. The uninstall / reinstall of iTunes turned out to be the relosution in this case. If you have an Apple device less than 90 days old, Apple Support via phone is free to help you. Good luck.

HAd the same issue and heres what worked for me.

Exit Itunes on all devices except for Mac/Pc

Dissable Home sharing on ALL devices including PC/Mac in all places including settings on Ipad/Iphone.

Starting at the Mac/Pc turn on Home sharing.

Go to settings on each device and set up Home sharing

Restart Iphone/Ipad Itunes application and establish Shared link

All shared files should now re-appear.

Took about 3 goes to get it all sorted on each device!

Note: this was using IOS6 on all devices (Ipad/Iphone) & Lion on Imac

Good luck
