Home sharing not showing all songs and albums

Having a bit of an issue with home sharing and it's driving me nuts as I just can't seem to solve it.

I enabled home sharing today as my mrs wanted to listen to music on our iPad while she was cooking.

Now here comes the issue, all songs in the iTunes library are showing under the songs tab of the music app but nothing will show under the artist or album section so I don't get any album artwork etc. How ever on my iPhone they show up under albums and artists tab.

The only way to play a song would be to look through the entire library where I'd rather just select the album.

Does anybody have any idea why this is doing it?

Some basic info on my setup.

Ipad 2 running ios6 and latest iTunes installed on a pc.

Pc is hardwired into a wireless router.

All music is stored on my NAS.

I've had the same problems. Upgraded to iOS6 and all the fun started, before it worked just fine. Now I have what appears to be library database corruption on a large scale (cover art doesn't match artist, artist/cover art header doesn't match songs listed, <very> truncated list of artists/songs). I even have a lack of cover art for some songs local to my iPad 3 that I purchased from iTunes! I tried deleting everything from my mac's iTunes library and starting over, all that accomplished was to kill 2 hours and reset all of the play counts on all of the songs but the problem persists on the iPad.

iMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8), iTunes 10.7 on iMac, iOS 6.0 on iPad3, music library=approx 32k songs/ 215GB on NAS share.

Thank God I found this thread. I've spent all week tidying up my music media, tagging it, renaming it, etc.

Originally i had some music showing through onto my iPad. However, my compilation albums were a mess, so ive taken time and effort to name them appropriately, and then amend the artist and album artist to be various artists. Cleaned out my entire iTunes library, and brought a few sample compilation albums over to prove id cracked it.

The albums did show up, so i kept working all week, and then brought all of my compilation albums over. However, this time out of all of the albums, i can only see four. Initially i thought this was an issue with me setting the compilation check box, so i lost another day enabling and then disabling them, but no change on the iPad. Ive reset and updated everything i can, but i can still only see two albums, no artists, and 2,000 entries in the Songs function. Clearly its not working s intended, but at least i know its nothing I've done.

This is yet another massively disappointing issue i had with my iPad, and its the primary function that i want to use my pad for - to stream music from my recently purchased server across to my iPad.

I was prompted with iPad 6.0.1 update this morning so i thought.. ok upgrade.. Then i though. I wonder if the Home Sharing issue is fixed so i tried it again after the update. No unfortunately it still happens.

I did notice though that a new version of the iTunes software is due any day now. This looks like quite a revamp. See here http://www.apple.com/itunes/new-itunes/ This was supposed to be 'coming in October' but I see now its 'coming in November' . lets hope the delay was due to testing and bug fixing a few old issues.

When it does finally make it lets hope they fix the home sharing mess. like MonkeyButler i had hoped to use the ipad-itunes-homesharing as the centre for all my music magic. I now currently use Spotify which although is quite amazing is not what i got the iPad for.

Come on Apple, amaze us with the new ITunes. We all know you can do it. Fingers crossed.

Actually on the topic of Spotify. I think this is the best application of all time saving the iPad a little from the Home Sharing failure shame. I have had to jump in and subscribe to music at £10 a month although I now love being able to browse and find new music each morning and not worrying if i want to delete by evening time. I have aleady discovered a lot of music i like but would probably never have bought. Do Apple do this sort of service? Dunno. Maybe they should because I am convinced that we will all buy our music like this in the future. And not to mention but the Surface and Microsoft have just released this servcie. Still it does not easily allow me to get to all my owned music so I am still hoping that Home Sharing will make a come back some day.

Aft spending a few minutes trying to find the Homesharing option on my ipad i can now say that it appears to have brout all of albums and artists. This will do until a proper fix shows up.

I wish theyd also add a feature whereby it would cache the album art onto the ipad, rather than have to download it each and every time i fire up music on the ipad.

Also, thinking about my experience again, in the end my ipad was only displaying the last two albums that i added. Im therefore wondering if this is some kind of caching issue, whereby itunes is only sending the new album details down, but the ipad hasnt cached the previous album data?

I've got the same problem.

My library contains more than 10K songs.

I've gox OsX 10.8.2 and on my iPod Touch 4rt gen (8Gb iOs 6.0.1) I can't see all my songs, but I can see them entirely on my iPhone 4s (iOs 6.0.1) and on my iPad 1st gen.

I tried to disconnect/recreate the library/reactivate home sharing but the issue is still there.

So it seems to be an iPod touch problem and any workaround appears to solve it temporarely.

Apple should fix it.

Ive spent another two days renaming and retagging album data. Every so often i close down the Music app on my ipad, sign out of Homesharing on the ipad, import the songs into itunes on my server, and once there all updated, sign back into homesharing, and finally reopen Music on the ipad.

So far this has worked very time, but you must close the Music app.

What ive also noticed is that if you dont follow the above process, the Music app will only display the most recent albums and artists from the last import into itunes. However, all of the songs are still available under the Songs section.

Finally, make sure that all of your music data is correct. I thought mine was, until i started going through and updating it all. Ive now ensured that all of the music ive brought into itunes is correctly named, track named, artists named, artist album named, track numbered, and that all has embedded album art.

How in the **** do we get Apple to fix this ffs!? iPad 2(6.1) displays all songs in song list, but no albums or artists visible, yet my iPhone 4S (6.1) displays nothing! I'M supposed to go through my entire 10k plus songs list tagging and re-tagging etc all my songs?? How about I just get the product I paid for?? Apple has fallen way, way down in my estimations recently. Surely this is a main feature of iTunes! I used this sharing feature everyday before stupidly upgrading to OS6.

Same experience here with iTunes on PC 7 and iPad 4. Hope apple fix this problem in iTunes 11 since one of the main reasons i bought an iPad for was this feature.

I had the same problem with shared not showing. turning off home share on all devices and restarting seemed to fix it but short term, however the problem reoccured.

Ive now changed a few things and the problem has gone.

Items in use:

2012 Imac running Itunes 10.7 & Lion 10.7.5

Iphone 4s

Ipod touch

Ipad Retina

Ipod Mini

Apple TV3

Netgear Dual Band Wireless router.

PS3 sharing same library via PS3 Media Server

Wii, laptop and Samsung phone connected to net via router

Originally everything was running on 2.5Mhz as I was using a Belkin N1 wireless router, which broke and was then replaced by the Netgear. The new router also has 5.0Mhz capability but I didnt enable it.

Ive now turned on the 5.0Mhz and put the Imac on it with everything else still running on 2.5Mhz

All devices see homesharing and the full library with no lag.

However, Move the Imac back to 2.5Mhz and the shared library is visible but loads very slowly or not at all and if I move any of the other devices to 5.0Mhz I get the same result.

With the Imac isolated on 5.0 and all slave devices on 2.5 everything everything works fine.

Hopes this helps others until Apple come up with a fix or release the new version of Itunes.
