Home sharing not showing all songs and albums

Having a bit of an issue with home sharing and it's driving me nuts as I just can't seem to solve it.

I enabled home sharing today as my mrs wanted to listen to music on our iPad while she was cooking.

Now here comes the issue, all songs in the iTunes library are showing under the songs tab of the music app but nothing will show under the artist or album section so I don't get any album artwork etc. How ever on my iPhone they show up under albums and artists tab.

The only way to play a song would be to look through the entire library where I'd rather just select the album.

Does anybody have any idea why this is doing it?

Some basic info on my setup.

Ipad 2 running ios6 and latest iTunes installed on a pc.

Pc is hardwired into a wireless router.

All music is stored on my NAS.

In case Apple are tracking or counting, I have the same issue. IPad 3, iMac, all software on latest versions. The iPad missing artists issue is there. Reconnecting to home sharing is not a fix and my artists, art and albums are messed up on the iPad under home sharing.

iPad with, home sharing and camera connection kit connected directly to my DAC via USB is the only way I can get 96KHz 24 bit audio (Apple Lossless) from iTunes into my hifi. The Apple TV 2 and 3 both down sample to 16 bit 44.1/48 on the optical out.

I really hope we see an Apple fix to this issue as the only alternative I can see is investment in more tech. I can create FLAC files 96/24, transfer to FLAC player app on the iPad via iTunes then output to the DAC via the camera kit but this is a slow and cumbersome process and not a real solution.

Issue still persists. My library is on a PC with a wired ethernet connection to my N900 router. Iphone is on 2.4ghz wifi, apple tv on 5.0ghz, ipad on 5.0ghz network. Only the AppleTV can see the entire shared music library correctly. ALL other devices do not. Wrong artwork, only 5-10 artists showing up when I have over 600 on all devices except AppleTV. Interestestly shared Video works fine. Tried re-booting everything in the house, no luck. Nothing has changed with my configs at all, it just stopped worked. Classic Apple bologne.

Sorry hdperhaps I wasnt clear in the instructions.

Hopefully the below is clearer:

1. Disable Homesharing on all devices and PC ie sign out

2. In Wifi Settings on each device you need to "Forget this Network"

3. Turn off, and restart each device.

4. Re-establish Wifi connection for each device.

5 Turn on Homesharing on PC

6. Turn on shared network on each device.

If your running a Dual-Band Wifi, then running the PC on 5.0Mhz and all other devices on 2.5Mhz seems less laggy and more stabble.

I believe (from what Ive read) the issue may be to do with 3 things:

1. Memory Cache on the individual devices not being refreshed/updated.

2. Cross comms & Packet size within the WIFI settings.

3. Band widths across the wifi network (due to 1080p support being introduced) may be a further setting to look at

The above ensures that all caches are cleared and that conflicts are negated.

Cleary the issue is not affecting all users or all potential configurations, but the above has worked for me and a couple of friends with similar problems.

What i found was that once i'd singed out and back into Homesharing on my ipad, that it would work again. However, it appeared to screw up when i added some new music to itunes.

So glad that find this thread!

i hav got the same problem too, after I've tried the sign in sign out thing, it works for me.

But I got another issue, just want to bring it up to see if you guys have the same problem or not:

I watch The Video via Home sharing too, but when I watch for a while, I can't pause the video! when I start to tap on the screen there is no any responded. I hav to exit the video app(at the same time the audio from your video still playing. That's weird!), close the apps, then reopen it, but you know, when I reopen the video app, I hav to reconnect home sharing again, that's exhausting!

Did anyone got the same problem?

Hi aaron6a, regarding your second issue, I have this problem too. Last time it happened the only thing I could do was a hard reboot of the ipad. I could not exit the video app at all as the home button did not respond.

Its really surprising how apple can fumble the ball like this - and leave it for so long. Maybe iTunes 11 will help with mismatched cover art and missing artists in the music player, but this problem appears to be IOS related.

Currently struggling with this as well.

I'm building a new library, turning a mac mini into a dedicated music server and on the iPad 3 only a fraction of the albums will show, whereas on all other devices the whole list is there, whether older iPad 1 and iPhone 4???

Yesterday it showed 8 or 10 out of over two dozen. Logged out of sharing on the iPad. It added some albums, but not all. Just checked again. It now it shows 24 out of 68, some of which were added today. Others have fallen off? No rime or reason.

Something with the music app on the iPad 3?

I have just noticed that ITunes 11 has been released.

iTunes did not noticed the update but I happened to go to the web site.

http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/

I have just installed this. Which is version 11. Looks different. Will it work? I have been infuriated with this problem.. but I could not resist trying this out to see if it fixes the iPad missing artist and albums issue that we all know and love.

So

I connect to home sharing on the iPad, Opening up music app, Clicked more, sharing, clicked on my library and waited a long time (>1 minute) then all the albums and artists appeared. Can it be ? Is it working ? I tried the old test that always failed before. I filtered for an artist 'simple minds' 'Amy Winehouse'. This worked. Wawo. My excitement is raising. An improvement. I played a few song. Great stuff. Then I thought I better close down and try it a second time as if I am coming back tomorrow. This usually caused the old iTunes (v10.7) to fail. So I closed the music app and then opened it again. Bang.. Only a few artists and some of the albums appeared.

The disappointment is overwhelming. So no banana to Apple. I pause ... sad :-( :-( :-(

This is what happened before.

I then tried disconnecting home sharing and reconnecting .. this seems to reset the albums properly.

Slightly happier.

So a partial fix. The iPad music app does not crash when filtering albums (as it did for me before) but if you close and re-open the music app you MUST disconnect and reconnect home sharing.

I have only done this three times so far but it worked each time.

So connecting to sharing took a long time and I had to enter my email and password but it kind of works now... What a nuisance. I am not sure I will bother if I have to do this and wait >1 minute to play a song from my own music library. It kind of defeats the purpose of having all this tech and my own music on my own PC when Spotify can access all the same music instantly from the Internet instantly without any fuss or having to start sharing etc...

Ho hum... Keep trying Apple... You might get there some day.

I've had the same issue... until yesterday! Before installing iTunes 11 I followed this instruction

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 to get rid of all iTunes 10 stuff. Furthermore I logged out home sharing on all my devices. Then I installed 11 and afterwards enabled home sharing on my devices.

The first connect took very long, about 1-2 minutes. Then all albums, artists, etc. were shown completely and with correct album art like it should be. I could not believe, will it be working?

I quit the music app 4-5 times (tapping the minus in the app bar, without logging out of home sharing in the settings), and it is still working! So I think for me this issue is solved.

One thing still remains: Using the search function in the music app still results in crashing (on ipad and iphone)
