Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

My phone seems to be loosing battery really quickly. It came only slightly charged but I have since fully charged it and notice it drains much faster than my iPhone 4. Is anyone having similar issues? Frustrating!

iPhone 5, iOS 6

apple fix this please it is ridiculous, while you are at it, fix your ******* maps it is a pathetic attempt at navigating away from googlemaps and into an entirely different planet that we have never seen before. Please bring back earth to your our phones as we have no need for your money-saving attempt at a mapping system. We want googlemaps back.

No thanks, I for one do NOT want Google's maps back. It was a resource hog, and couldn't even cache much more than a city block. At least we have huge cache stores from the new maps app, and Apple is quickly addressing all the issues. If you'd use the "report" feature (page curl at bottom right), you'd be shocked to find that Apple will quickly add/correct.

Having the same issue - I used to only have to charge my 4 every two days or so. I unplugged my 5 this morning at around 6am with full charge. I used it a little (some surfing, about 40 minutes of nav on Waze, one request to Siri, no calls), and it is 6:30pm now and down to 27% - I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make it through the night even with no use and a microcell here in the house (so full-bars reception).

I agree

I personal feel that the new Maps App offers a far better user experience, features, colour scheme, navigation and possibilities etc. While YES the directory is not perfect yet, it's the perfect example of crowd-sourcing.

Yes Google has a few years head-start on Apple, but let's not forget that Google refused to bring street view and turn-by-turn to iOS which is what forced Apple's hand.

Patience people

In terms of the battery issue, how many of you have actually been to the Genius bar?

I have been to the Genius Bar they are very helpful but did not fix the issue and suggested turning of functions the whole reason I have the iPhone 5 is to use all the great functions ,I did turn if some but has not helped I am handling using the 5 as its not reliable i dont play games use the net and its dead by 7pm I did a test with my 4 same usage over two days , 4 last 2 days no charge 5 had to be charged 5 times regretting my decision to get the 5 :(

I do love the camera and look though just a shame the battery is so bad

"Well guys. My new iphone5 was at 100% at 8:00am. I made three phone calls for a total of 26 minutes. at 21:00, the battery was down to 61%. I spend less than half an hour on the web, sent three texte messages and ask Siri a few things. It's now 20:00 and my battery is...dead. 8%. I' m done with Apple, see ya iMac, iPods, ipad, iphone 4 and iphone5. "

I just was wondering if your battery was down to 61% at 21:00 which is 9:00 PM. How come your battery was dead (8%) 1 hour before at 20:00 which is 8:00 PM. Whether you cannot count right military time or just upset and stressed about Apple in general????😉

I have the same issue, it seams that my battery keeps dropping like I was using it a lot. I took it to the Apple store on Sunday and a really pushy girl told that it was perfect that it is normal to be out of battery by the time I get home my schedule is from 9 am until 6 pm. My old iphone 4 battery last 2 days, the new one half a day. But she said it is normal????

I think you are should be smart enough to state your message clear and without typing errors in order to receive a useful answer!

As far as yout battery drainage I'll give a piece of advice to resolve your frustration: Take your Iphone 5 to Apple store genius bar, they do have a set of diagnostic programs one of those especially designed to determine the physical condition of your battery. If this is a bad battery they will replace your Iphone, if this is a software they will be able to recommend you uninstall recently installed applications, one by one to determine which applications affect your battery life.

Enjoy, 😎

I've been reading this thread over and over - various people in Iph4 have upgraded to IOS6 and had the same problem.

Think it proves its not the 5, but more so the IOS.

I have up and down battery staying power but always generally bad.

I've done following -

Rebooted the phone before a nightly charge.

Then strangely enough in the mornings - the battery stays at 100% for a long time - even when phone is used.

Then suddenly it starts to drain.

I've done a few full charges (<20% battery) not by choice but out of necessity.

The other day using Facetime 3G - 10 mins - the battery went from 87% to 61%.

My old and poorly iphone4 had better life than that and it was 2 years old.

Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?
