Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

Went from a 4 to a 5, same result. Very quick battery drain, will not last throuhg a day even while used very moderetly. Much wors than my 4.

My iPhone 4 had a great battery; this 5 I got in the mail on Friday is HORRIBLE!! It's a beautiful phone, but I have the same battery horror stories as the other commentators in this discussion! Apple, please fix!!

Although my iPhone 5 doesn't drain nearly as fast as some reports here, it did seem to go a bit quicker than expected while idle. Under heavy use, it drained at a reasonable rate. Maybe I'm imagining things, but the idle drain seems like it may be a little better after I went into Settings -> General -> Reset, and selected Reset Network Settings, then setup my WiFi again.

Turning off LTE is a good idea if you're running low on battery... That seemed to really put the brakes on the drain last night when I was away from home and without my charge/sync cable.

Try limiting which applications are enabled to fetch/push data & turn off auto sync to iCloud... I noticed mine was draining rapidly at first. On my phone, they were all "on" after set up and sync to iCloud was enabled. Phone seems use power at an acceptable rate now. I've been using normally today and I still have 66% after 10 hours unplugged...

Oh thank goodness it isn't just mine. I was paranoid that they wouldn't believe me after all the hype of the phone.. and this new amazing battery that it just doesn't work.

They better either recall or have a fix asap!

I did have a thought - how many of you are using the new charger that came with the cable? Is that something that may cause an issue? Different power plug to charger?

Without a doubt my new iPhone 5's 64GB with ATT is draining way too quickly. I hardly use the phone, and it drops 20% an hour even when on WiFi most of the time. My 2+ year old iPhone 4 under similar usage drops only 5% an hour. In fact, at home I use my iPhone 4 to do everything but make calls. Basically my iPhone 5 is just a phone, no use of apps when I have my iPhone 4 on WiFi. Apple has a problem on their hands. If I could return and get out of my ATT 2year contract lock, I will.

I think I fixed my quick drain issues by "calibrating" the battery. I used it until the phone died and then recharged to 100%. Now, it seems ok - I was just on an hour long call and only lost 7%. One thing I noticed was that when it was draining, the % was dropping quick and then stayed on 1% for about 20 minutes. So I think the phone thought the battery was much lower capacity than it really was. After this, all seems well.

Please note if you do this, make sure NOT to try and completely discharge the battery (just let it die once and then recharge). If you try to get all of the charge out of it by trying to turn it on and on again after it dies, eventually all charge will be lost and the battery will be toast. Good luck and I hope this helps!

^^^nadz240, that's exactly what I have determined, as well. Thanks to a friend showing me your post, I hope to also confirm that my suspicions may be right. My phone, too, was also sitting on 1% for a while without shutting off. It only made sense that the calibration was off. I recently allowed it to finally drain and shut off. I expect my battery % meter will drop much less quickly now. I'll report back as soon as I determine for sure.

My battery last approximately 10 hours with little or no usage. Checked emails two or three times, a dozen texts and maybe 10 minutes of phone calls top.

I noticed in the "Usage" stat under battery it states that the usage is 7 hours - so clearly something is remaining active. Additionally, the lifetime stats show 25 days of usage. Obviously this is not possible since I just purchased the phone on Friday. I was curious if anyone else showed similar "usage" and perhaps thats just representative of the day it was first activated....

The cellular usage comes from your previous iPhone's backup. ;)

Well im 7 hours into my shift at work right now. Started at 100 percent. Didnt make a single call, surfed the net for about 30 min on my break, checked sports scores periodically, sent amd received maybe 15 texts and my phone is currently at 34 percent. My brightness is higher than stock and bluetooth has been off. Thats pretty bad. If o has actually USED the phone today it would e totallydead by now

ChrisM916, read the post by nadz240 above, and my reply to his. FYI, it took my phone nearly 30 min to shut off after sitting on 1%. I'm currently doing a full charge cycle, and I'll leave it plugged in overnight.

This is my first iphone altogether but i have friends who own iphone 4 and battery does not drain this quick! I agree,if I can get out of the 2yr contract i would.
