Why is my iPhone5 battery draining so fast, worse than my iphone4?

My phone seems to be loosing battery really quickly. It came only slightly charged but I have since fully charged it and notice it drains much faster than my iPhone 4. Is anyone having similar issues? Frustrating!

After the initial calibration I did over the weekend, battery life was better, but then after doing what kartchen said:

3. Calibrate battery correctly (let it run till shut off, then charge it to 100% and leave it at 100% for another 30' or so before unplug.)

I didn't do this part last time. I did this last night (let it charge overnight instead of taking it off right after it hit 100%) and now its even better than after the initial calibration.

The whole battery "calibration" claims are hocus pocus. iOS estimates battery usage based on advanced algorithms, and our draining of the battery fully and recharging it fully does nothing for allowing iOS to "calibrate" estimation. One can also see this is an estimation issue bug by iOS by simply seeing that the iPhone 5 will sit on 1% for 20-30+ minutes of heavy usage before actually powering down, regardless of the number of so called "calibration" attempts.

Hi,

A George C. rang me from Apple USA.

He told me to install this program he sent via email and read me a legal agreement. Did anyone have that too?

I am hoping this is genuine. He said he will monitor for 48-72 hours and asked me to log the things I do with my phone, and he will ring me back in 2-3 days.

He told me to change it over to LTE (not turn off anything and use it as if there were no probs with the batter).

Please let me know if this is the exact same way for those who have been phoned.

Thanks.

This is how bad out batteries are

My gf and i went to a concert yesterday she has a 4 i have a 5. We both charged our phones to 100 percent and the took them off the charger at the same time. I checked in there on facebook, sent a few texts and we compare our phones i was at 67 percent already, she was at 89. By the end of the night, she had checked in, sent texts, taken 18 pictures and 6 videos. Her phone was at 49 %. I had checked in, sent some texts and tAken TWO pictures and ZERO videos and my phone was at 19 percent. Thats a huge difference.

Jason Cupps from Apple called me. They monitored my device for a period of 48 hours. It didn't help fixing my battery issue but I can tell you that Apple is doing everything they can to resolve this problem. In the meantime, they gave me a new phone and this one is working perfectly. I got it yesterday 10:00am with a 72% charge. Used it all day, let it on all night long and it got to 0% at 15:30. So that's more than 17 hours with ALL functions turned on. My previous iphone5 was losing 11% every hour. It must have been coming from a bad batch. Keep in mind that I didn't restore from icloud or from any backup. You have to set as a new phone and then sync. If you still have issues with your phone, pay a visit to your Apple store and they will give you another one.

I'm from Canada. They will give you another one right until you get a perfect one. Don't worry about it. When you get it, set as new phone, let the battery die by itself then charge to 100% without turning the phone off. When fully charged, wait 1/2 hour and then turn it off for an hour or so before unplugging.

I too wonder if the LTE is having a big negative impact on battery life. I was having really bad battery life initially and pretty much turned off most notifcations and location programs to get more acceptable battery life. That improved things but still probably not as good as my iPhone 4 on iOS5 plus not keen I have to pull back nearly everything and use the phone in a limited mode. This past week I had to do some flying on long flights where I had cellular off but had wi-fi on using the plane's wi-fi. My battery life was significantly better. For instance, on one flight, used it to text constantly, read and send emails and surf internet for about 4 hours, and battery only dropped about 30%. Doing that with cellular on using LTE, my guess is I would have been at zero well before that 4 hours was up. I'd expect LTE to use more energy...no question about that...but seems like it's using a lot more juice than expected and not allowing the phone to give the battery life that was expected by Apple.
