My batt is already at 10% and i havent watched any videos or anything, just texting. I charged it full last night

  • bubbafrombama Level 1 (0 points)

Let it drain completely and shut off, then recharge it!

  • C1nds Level 1 (0 points)

I waited until battery completely drained last night then rechrged, and i only have 6% left now. Soooo disappointed.

But is your phone shutting off immediately when 2 or 1% hits, or is it taking 10-30 min after getting to 1%?  If so, then it's not really as big of an issue as you may think, but more so an estimation problem with iOS 6 and the iPhone 5.  Think about it.

Same problem here. 2 days of use, both times the battery drained from 90+% to 10% within 5 hours  of use. A few texts, Facebook check ups and no more than 15 to 20 minutes of phone usage. This is simply unacceptable. The unnecessary and vain reduction in an already thin design while sacrificing battery life just doesn't make sense. I can only imagine what will happen this coming week once work related emails are pushed into the phones a few hundred times a day....

Have you actually done this? I did last night... and it's still just as poor.

Posted earlier but some more updates, and a copy of my post from another thread:

Battery loses about 1% every two minutes while doing nothing.  Who are these professional reviewers with their lies about long battery life?  I sold my iPhone 4S for this?  It came with only 50% battery out of the box.  It charges fast but depletes even faster.  Seems like an ios6 bug.  My iPhone 4S and new iPad under iOS 5.1.1 only lost 2-3% a day on standby. Needs to be fixed immediately.

Also, another bug:  I don't have tethering on my phone but my cellular usage under settings said I had used 374638263TB (some large number like that).  Then I hit reset and it said 124TB.  Then I reset again and it said null.  Then I hit reset again and it said 1.0KB.  What the **** is going on?

And another bug:  the processor speed goes from blazing fast to slower than the 4S whenever it feels like it.

Another bug:  often web pages won't load and says can't connect to server and I have to close Safari and reopen it ten times before it will load.  Full of bugs.

Fix your mess, Apple, or you'll be having an onslaught of returns.  Piece of junk so far.  And why is the iPad screen more natural color wise?  The iPad has a warmer, more natural hue while the iPhone has always had a cooler, bluer tint.  The iPad now seems to be suffering a similar battery life problem since the iOS 6 upgrade, but not quite as severe.  I would not call this a successful launch for you guys at Apple, regardless of how many you initially sold to your crowd of followers.  The negative press will bite you in the rear.

I definitely think it's an iOS 6 WiFi bug, as the battery doesn't drain as quick when WiFi is off.  This, of course, renders my iDevices virtually useless as I use WiFi 98% of the time.

How could no one have caught this in the beta releases of iOS 6?  Looks like once again, Apple was in a hurry to release a defective product to consumers before working out all the kinks.

I charged my iphone to 100% at 00:30 am and i went to sleep and when i woke up at 9:45am the battery was 37% it was just on stand by and it fell to 37%.

  • ChrisM916 Level 1 (0 points)

um, no not really.  So it takes 30 min to go from 1 to dead?  thats still just horrible battery life + 30 minutes

  • intewig Level 1 (0 points)

Me too. My battery is draining 1% every few minutes.

Just got off the phone with my Telco helpline. He said turn off your Location Services which is a huge battery drainer. He also says iOS is buggy and probably a cause of the problem as well.

I think from what people have said so far and my understanding of iOS, there are certainly mixed messages here and there, some seemed to be misleading (lack of knowledge) some seemed to be more on the actual problem.

So three things that seem to help so far on multiple cases (not every case) I read from other posts are:

    1. Calibrate your battery.

    2. Turn off traffic at location services (under system services)

    3. turn off passbook sync in iCloud.

I did 2 and 3 so far and it does help a bit (Facetime for 25 min, check emails and facebooks periodically and some push notices to count for total usage time of 55min, 6h standby time, 11% dropped compared to standby overnight (~7h) with 21% drop before doing 2 and 3). However, I do have to say this still seems lower than my iphone 4.... but at least not dropping crazy even at standby mode.

For those of you found "abnormal" liftetime cellular usage data, that is simply because you restored your phone from your old iphone backup.... And for some of you feel the phone is slow and usage is high might simply because the iphone is backing up to iCloud at background (or restore a large file from your backup file, usually photos). Some of the abnormal battery drain might be a combo of the two. So before declare a battery issue, maybe first double check if your photos are still recovering? And if your first backup is done on iCloud? (First backup will usually take longest time as always). If not, then try 1,2,3. Then if still problematic, then report. I do think this could be more like a software problem now...

I am having the same issue I charged mine for a full 24 hours before even starting use , Then again at night for 12hours by 3pm it was dead I made one call and used no apps : ( I should have brought charger as no one at work has the new Iphone 5

Then to add to my frustration my screen keeps freezing .... Perhaps I should have waited till all the bugs where out

Not impressed at the moment my iphone 4 was much better

Since getting it first thing Friday I have observed the following: First day drained so quick it died that night, fully dead and charged from flat. Still was draining quickly so did a hard reset and that helped a bit. Last night after fully charging it over night with it being on 1% it was around %50 at lunch with little use in the morning and mostly listening to music, went for a run with nike gps and wend down to the low 30's. Kept drianing quickly had to do so some charge otherwise it would go flat by evening. I did a backup from my iPhone 4 and that phone with the new iOS6 seems to be fine battery wise. I'll try to drain it again tonight and do a hard reset again and see if that does anything. Love the design but this battery is a joke...

A few others at work got theirs and out of 5, only 1 other that set it up from scratch seems to be having similar drains to me.

I have the same issue than you; I buy this expensive Iphone 5 and I hope to have a very good problem. For the moment and especially for the battery lifetime it's worse.

This morning the battery was 100% and 4 hours later without doing a lot of think It's only at 66% !!!!

Is it the Iphone 5 , IOS6 ? I don't know but I hope that Apple will find very quicky a solution and I will call this afternoon the hotline center in France and to know their answer.

It's important to make pressure on Apple otherwise will never find a solution.
