Sounds like a software bug for sure - iOS 6.1 is needed!

My wife and I received our White & Black 64gb iPhone 5's from AT&T - both restored from iCloud backup's.  Her's was okay, mine draining at 1% every 3 minutes approximately.  Messed around with turning WiFi off, Bluetooth, Location Services, etc. to no avail.  Yesterday I RESET ALL SETTINGS from the RESET Menu and it has been operating fine since, even with WiFi and Bluetooth on.  I let it run for awhile without the WiFi & Bluetooth on and it was fine so I incremently turned each one on and tested for awhile - all good.  I have not turned on Location Services yet.

Don't know if this will work for everyone but it did for me and is worth the try - does not erase any data or apps so you only need to re-do your settings afterward.

After having terrible battery life since Friday, I just did a backup and restore. I think that did the trick. It's been 6 hours and I'm on 94% after playing a few games, checking emaill and catching up on Facebook. Before, it would have been in the 50-60% range.

I also did the same... Before I did a restore from iTunes and tried a restore from iCloud but my battery life was disappearing.  I was having issues downloading songs for iTunes Match and downloading and installing appz.  I got fed up and did a full reset and setup as a new iphone and now not having the issues.

I suspect that transferring and synching data from a previous backup is constantly churning which is where the problem lies..

I was initially having significant battery drop with minimal usage.  After making some setting changes (below) and then 30 hours since my last charge and using my iPhone 5 as I normally did with my iPhone 4, I have 34% left.  That's consistent with what I had with iPhone 4 and I'm very happy with that performance. I obtained the favorable battery usage after changing the settings for the iPhone 5 to have minimal Notification (there were many "on" that I don't care about and didn't use) and did the same for Location Services.   Had a profound effect on battery life.

What's so frustrating is here everyone is turning off all the stuff that makes the iPhone cool to begin with (location services, etc.).  I mean, what's the point of having all this stuff if we can't use it w/o sucking the life out of our battery?!

I personally don't want to have to turn on location services every time I want to use it nor should I have to.  When I had my iPhone 4, my battery was just fine and I had location services on all the time (granted turned on to only the apps that really needed it).

I just think its BS that we have to turn off all these cool functions of the iPhone just to make the darn thing work properly.

You don't have to turn off the location services to have batteries to work, if you read the forum carefully. People so far do several of these things: calibrate battery, reset all settings (keep apps), restore as new phone, turn off traffic in location services, turn off passbook for iCloud. Tried all these and see if it fix your problem. I did 2 of the above things and already helped quite a bit, I am recalibrating my battery now and afterwards will reset all settings. It seemed to me a very likely related to iCloud services and iOS rather than the hardware. Hopefully I am right....

Unfortunately, the battery recalibration did not work for me.  Last night I allowed it to die after it was on 1% for near 30 min.  Today, I let it drain again, and yet again it stayed on 1% for over 22 min before shutting off.

My ipad2 seems to be loosing battery fast. Before i update to ios6 , it was very good. Now i charge twice a day. I use a lot. Used to charge it every 2 days b4 upgrade the ios.

I don't understand. Yesterday I tried to do the battery calibration by killing it completely. I played music, streamed to AirPlay, and listened to Pandora for approximately 8 hours over LTE. Oh yeah, also while having Maps route me from Boston to NYC, while driving around my local town (constantly re-routing). Not too bad.

This morning I drive to Dunkin Donuts after a full 0% to 100% recharge overnight. I use it once at a traffic ligth to check facebook. 20 minutes total trip time. Down 5%...

    I don't get it.

I am one of those lucky people that got their iphone 5 on launch day! Unfortunately I have been charging this device constantly .

Example is this morning I had a fully charged iphone and left to work listening to an audio podcast through my car bluetooth with the screen turned off. by the time i got to work an hour later, it's down to 72% >:(

But that's what I'm saying .. why do we have to do all of these ridiculous steps just to make the phone useable?  The phone should work right out of the gate.

Just messaged apple with this major concern! I just put down big bucks for my 5 64 gig...I would suggest that everyone do the same and let apple know how many people are experiencing the same thing. I've also followed every recommendation posted so far and I'm still loosing about 5% battery life every 5 minutes and without browsing the internet, using apps or even using the phone!!! It's ridiculous!!!!!

  • r_dizzle Level 1 Level 1 (5 points)

how do you message apple directly?? what's the most productive way of giving feedback?

I thought they monitor the forums alot?

  • bubbafrombama Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

They do monitor them.  godzuki00 is just being a drama queen.  I especially love how he/she, and others, throw up in everyone's face how special and better than everyone else they are with their "big bucks...64 gig" iPhone, LOL!
