iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Well im now down to 28% for the day! I just watch my phone not doing anything with it location off, push off, brightness about 50% auto lock off so the screen stays on it loses 2% every 10 minutes that defiantly doesn’t sound right at all!!

Update -

Just done the same as above wacked the brightness right down so i can just about see the battery nipped into a meeting come back 50 mins later and battery has dropped 5%!! User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

Whitewater, I have turned off LTE, Icloud, all push services are off and I've done every single thing I can think of. The phone still wants to drop my wifi and put me on 3g randomly which my 4 never did AND the battery life is not very much improved. I also have gps off. I was only getting 2 bars on LTE and when it was on my phone was hotter than ashphalt in the summer time and eating battery like crazy. I am in an area where the LTE never went over two bars and kept switching to 3g. So I guess keeping LTE off is going to be permanent. I do feel as that was one of the advertised featuers of this phone it's a bit of a rip off not to be able to ever use it. Along with the other issues which I do hope Apple attends to very soon. I can't justify spending this much on a new phone that comes out of the box with this many problems. I need my phone so will try to "fix" I'm running this battery down to zero to cycle back up for the third time.

There's a lot of speculation here for now as I've reset and then added everything back on through Itunes manually and that did not help I'm going to be very interested given all the suggestions here what the issue is. I have not ever launched Safari, just adding that as some seem to think Safari is part of the problem. I have not used imessage but, turned that service off anyway. :S

I understand your frustration. At this point, Apple store visit, have them do the hardware test to see if it passes.

I pretty much use the crap out of my phone and have good results. Just trying to share some of my insight and findings. As soon as LTE is available in my area, I will have it on. My buddy has LTE on in Colorado, got 2 days 2 hours standby, 5 hours + usage. He has everything on...

Others thoughts/rumors

Safari- Whether you use it or not, the sync portion still syncs back to the server if its on..

Facebook Messenger people have reported as being a problem.

iMessage- seems to drain the battery a lot to me.

International Business Times has an interesting article about this battery issue with the Iphone 5. The article was published after I ordered my iphone 5. Wish I'd seen it as I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada and it seems they think the battery life is related to your cellular carrier and LTE in some ways. Their tests also showed the 4S getting better battery life over all from what I gather in this article. One of the sentences says "The iphone 5 is not an all day phone." YIKES!

My battery life improved somewhat with LTE off as I was only getting 2 bars and about five hours of battery time over all with LTE. So that's not a feature available if your carrier isn't getting a strong signal. That's not what the advertising said though right?

Here's a link to the article. http://www.ibtimes.com/apple-iphone-5-features-battery-life-may-be-affected-cell ular-signal-strength-796725

If the link doesn't post just go to International Business Times website and find the article. I will wait for Apple to address this. If they don't I'll be taking this phone back for a full refund as you either have to turn off half the functions or have a really quick battery drain or both. Iphone 4 worked a lot better for me and I was happy with it. Will give them a few weeks to sort it and after that I'm done. I do feel somewhat duped. Virgin never said a word on the phone and any issues with LTE when I spoke with them.
