iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

LTE is the fast cellular data connection that your iPhone 5 is designed to use. Turning it off reduces the speed of your internet connection and some other applications on your iPhone.

There are two ways to turn it off.

Method 1 is to go to Settings - General - Cellular - Enable LTE and turn it to off.

Method 2 is to sell your iPhone5 and buy an old iPhone 4.

Thank you very much for this information.

Unfortunately I am already at Turtle speed connection as it is. I cant possibly imagine having to go any slower just to get a few extra minutes out of my Iphone 5 battery.

It really is sad that we as an Apple community, who have spent upwards of £500 on the latest Iphone 5, have to turn almost every available setting OFF in order for it to work properly. Apple really need to look into this, as I suspect they have lost thousands of customers who would have bought the Iphone 5 already but have opted for competitors phones instead which seem more user friendly and reliable?

I just entered into the SMARTPHONE era, I was using a 2G phone for the last few years and recently (with my wife's persuasion, I changed to Iphone 5. My wife is using ip4 and her side of the family are using ip4 & 4s. (I wanted an Android phone, but was talked out of it).

Using IP5 for the last week or so, I love the Iphone 5, slimmer and faster, however, one thing that bug me is the battery life...as compared to the 4 & 4s.

My thoughts of SMARTPHONE (Iphone 5)

The purposed of a smartphone is supposed to make us smarter.... better surfing experience, ease of communication....however, it is really laughable that features needed to be disable in order to save battery. What is the point of having a SMART Phone, when we need to disable features for fear of losing battery power...this is really stupid.

My last 2G phone.....lasted 2 weeks without a single charged...Of course, it is difficult to compared both, but, 1/4 day (8am - 9pm) of use on IP5 and fearing of dead battery....is really mindblogging.

Worst, I put my Iphone on alarm (my phone was on thoughout the night)....but it went dead. My 8 years old daughter missed her school bus. The battery was at 40% in the evening (before I sleep)...but it did not not last till morning. (P/S:- the phone is on Standby mode).

How I miss the alarm clock.😢

Anyway, my first Iphone will definitely be last. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER IPHONE EVER !!!!!!! 😠

I saw that IOS6.1 is coming soon.....hope the update will resolve the battery problem. I doubt it....never use Apple products before.

I had to buy another USB battery pack to charge my phone. I am travelling in the train and it does help to have one.

Come to think about it, I was so close to buying SONY phone....heard their batteries are MUCH better + they are some what cheaper.

Reason I will stick to !P5, it was a gift from my wife.

Anyway, lets pray that Apple update can bring some improvement to the battery.....don't know how much better.

Simple fix. I can't believe apple hasnt figured this out.

I returned my phone once already and my battery issue did not go away. I use the podcast app most of the day and not much browing or anything else. I stumbled on another forum saying the podcast app is garbage and should be deleted. So i got rid of the app, and all of a sudden I am getting almost double battery life. If you love your podcasts like i do, just download the downcast app. best $1.99 you will spend.

Same issue here. I just recently bought a iPhone 5 and i was literally seeing the battery droping 1% in 2 to 3 mins.

After trying ALL fixes here i have to say its a lot better but im not completly happy.

Now im getting 50 min of usage for -10%

That sounds ok?

Pls let me know what you think, i still find it a little weak. I remember when i bought my iPhone 4 the battery felt like never ending, and this one is suppose to be better.

I really hope Apple do something serious about this for iOS 6.1

WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE PROBLEM WAS THE iOS 6.0.2 UPDATE!!!

I just bought the Iphone5 about 3 days ago. I noticed the poor battery life almost immeditely. I went from a 3GS that lasted me all day to a 5 that couldn't make it past lunch without a recharge. Not to mention that I couldn't even connect to my home wifi. I searched frantically for an answer and made all the setting's changes that were recommended on these forums.

Long story short, I decided to restore with the older version of the 6.0.1 update (supposed to address wifi issues) and get rid of the new update, iOS 6.0.2. WORKED LIKE A CHARM AND DOUBLED MY BATTERY LIFE!! I'm running with the 6.0.1 update and its humming like a fine tuned machine.

I just can't believe that Apple hasn't recognized this and done something about it.

P.S. I have no wireless connection issues like the original complaints were suggesting about the earlier update.

Can someone help to analyze my 5 battery behavior now?

(6 hours and 8 minutes of usage

17 hours and 30 minutes of standby) I'm now at 30%

I used the phone for

2 hours of movie(daily)

30 mins for watsapp

And others are web surfing(Fb) and phone, messages and all

For me I say this is so hard core usingLoL. Compared to androids

I'm from android and found ios so much better to use, and the battery life on my 5 is SO much better than my Samsung s2!!!!

Please give some comments

Haha, I'm just a beginner apple fan. I'm not sure of the ios version as mine says 6.0.2 with 10A551.

What do you mean by unticking box? Disabling some feature or? If its so I disabled:

Siri( it's too stupid to recognize my voice LOL)

Safari sync tab

Weather

Lte(I don't use 3G or data, almost every places here got free wifi)

Location service(when I don't use GPS)

System service(leaving time zone on)

Bluetooth( whenever I leaves my car)

I remember reading turn off anything that's not being use so I followed.

Btw is my battery life shorter on average?

I played a game called asphalt 7 for an hour than my battery decreases 40 percent!!!

Please help me with this, I really want to enjoy the retina on iphone!!!
