iPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

I just got my iPhone 5 yesterday. I've had an iPhone 4 for the last 2 years. I took my phone out of the box with 55% battery. I used it for the rest of the day mainly using iCloud to restore my old apps. I let it completely die today and then I charged it. It was at 100% and I made one 5 min phone call and my battery life dropped to 91%. No apps running. This will not work for me if this is how it's going to be. Is this normal? I'm running 6.0.2.

Welcome to the lousy Iphone5 battery club.

The only way to resolve the battery problem is to read what folks do th improve their battery life. What they do to maintain their excellent battery life in IP5

Read Below :-

And all have one thing in common : Do you know what??????

They recommend (to improve battery life) -

~ DON'T USE MUSIC PLAYER

~ DON'T WATCH MOVIE

~ DON'T TURN ON LOCATION

~ DON'T USE CAMERA

~ DON'T USE MAPS

~ DON'T USE SAFARI

~ DON'T USE APP STORE

~ DON'T TURN ON SOUND

~ DON'T TURN BRIGHTNESS ON

~ DON'T USE WALLPAPER

~ DON'T USE ICLOUD

~ DON'T USE FACETIME

~ DON'T USE RING TONE

~ DON'T USE VIRBRATION

~ DON'T PLAY GAMES

~ DON'T TALK

~ DON'T PUT YOUR PHONE ON STANDY

~ DON'T TURN ON PHONE

~ DON'T USE PASSBOOK

~ DON'T USE FOR HOME

~ DON'T USE FOR OFFICE

~ DON'T USE AT ALL

If you follow all the above recommendation.... your IP5 will last at least 1/4 day without charging. If you use some of them, sorry, your IP5 will only last you only 5 hours....max..

I might as well buy a Stupid flip-phone, where batteries can last and last and last.

It is the battery....not the user or iOS!!!!!

Unfortunately yes it is Normal. We are all having the same nightmare story with the Iphone 5 Battery life. It is absolutely useless. Even when you dont use it it just drains before your very eyes with no Apps open.

it is not normal-i just checked my phone it was at 47% with 4 hours usage and over a day and a half of standby. i use my phone as normal.

The short battery life is not normal. I had the same problem when I upgraded to 6.0.2. Took that phone to the apple store twice, once they did a DFU restore from new, the next they actually replaced to battery. No improvement. I could get 4-5 hours at best with no apps open and limited use. Took it back in again and they gave me a new phone. Luckily it had 6.0.1 on it. I didn't upgrade to 6.0.2. Now with a ton of apps open, wifi and Bluetooth on, location services on, I am getting 2 days on the battery with regular use. Apple needs to fix the big with 6.0.2. They have to be aware of the problem. Just a matter of time before 6.1 comes out. There are ways to revert back to 6.0.1, but apple won't let you post them on here.

Hi all,

I have been reading this post for a while and got some great tips on battery life and how to test it and prolong it.

I just wanted to chime in with my findings...

As per the earlier suggestion (maybe on anthor thread?), after I unplug the phone from a full charge, I reboot the device (i.e. HOLD the home and screen buttons until it shuts off, and then turn it back on).

This seems to make the battery drain WAY slower. My findings are as follows:

1. Full drain, then full charge (overnight) - I got 6 hours usage and 16 hours standby before it shut off

2. Full drain, then full charge (overnight) then reboot immediatly - I am at 6 hours usage and 16 hours standby - WITH 50% battery left!!

**NOTE 1 - Because I don't get usage stats after a reboot, I just plug in the power cable for a second after I reboot it, that will kick off the usage timer again.

**NOTE 2 - My settings and running apps were EXACTLY the same during the test periods, and I tried to keep the usage as similar as possible (2 hours total gaming, 1 hour web usage, 2 hours emails, 30 mins calls, 30 mins whattsapp) with LTE enabled, Wi-fi connected, in the same physical location/room (my office) so the coverage was the same.

Anyways, my battery life is now more than acceptable. But I have to do a reboot after each charge.

I assume that this means it is a software issue and can indeed be fixed..

Fingers crossed for 6.1 release...

I hope this was helpful.

Cheers,

Ken

All these posting in Apple support does it really help? I think not.....

To my experience, battery life is one issue that company will not care. There are alot of factors that can DRAIN the batteries (from your usage to the carrier)...and believe me...it is one that company will always "push" it away blaming factors that they cannot control.

Users of Iphone5 (IP5) will need to "get used" to the batteries life of their phones. Ultimately, users will find ways to "satisfy" themselves to live with a phone that is "inferior" to many in the market.

This is my first smartphone....but I know of many who used IP and other Andriod phones.....my wife bought me the IP5 for my birthday (because she felt that her IP4 gives her good batteries life). She felt really bad now, that she has gotten IP5 for me only to realise that the battery cannot last.... she told me the other day...she should have gotten an Andriod phone for me instead.

I have done some testing between my IP5 and my brother's SamSung Galaxy S3....here are the results (note :- this is not a "scientific" test...I test using the same stuff between the 2 phones...but the carrier are different.)

(IPHONE 5) - For the past weeks, I now plugged my phone throughout the night and by morning it was 100%. I unplug it at 7am still at 100%, and by 8am, it went down to 90% (use for whatsap, read emails, play 5-10 mins games, listen to 1/2 hour of music)...I don't consider those are heavy usage. But a 10% cut from the battery is alot. Before noon the battery was between 80-70%...this despite not using any thing....During lunch, I listened to 15-20 mins music, play games, whatsap....read epaper...the battery was at low 60%....by 4pm, the battery will drop to low 40%....and on my way home, the battery was at 30-20% by (use for whatsap, read emails, play 10-15 mins games, listen to 45 mins of music...talk 5-10mins) the time I reach home @ about 7pm....by battery was @ less than 10%. I end my testing at 7pm...because it is when I will plug my phone to my PC for Sync.

(SamSung S3) - Same, I plugged the phone throughtout the night, by morning, it was 100%.....unplug it at 7am....still at 100%. Took it with me on my bus ride to work....(use for whatsap, read emails, play 5-10 mins games, listen to 1/2 hour of music) at 8am...at low 90%. Before noon the battery was down to about 80 70% at lunch.....(same use as IP5). By 4pm the battery was at 60%. and on my way home...(use for whatsap, read emails, play 10-15 mins games, listen to 45 mins of music) it was still at low 50%. Reach home at about 7pm it was still at 50%. I left it on standby and by 11pm, it was at 40%.

The test above is not scientific test. Of course, the specs between the 2 phones are different....I have to consider that too. But I assumed that both are latest Smartphone in the market and both are equally as popular.

I test it as much the same as possible, one thing, I did not talk with the S3, becuase I was not able to talk with it.

I find that the battery for S3 looks much more stronger and more efficient. So, I rest my case.

Apple...waiting for what...improve IP5 battery or else, you can kiss me good bye

Thank you

Ah....one more thing to boost our ego for owning IP5 :-

Batteries phone will degrade in time...so just imagine....new IP5 battery last 1 day.....10-12months IP5 batteries will degrade another 25%. 18months later IP5 will worth ****.

Since Apple has a habit of not letting users change batteries.....you can throw it away after 18months.

😠 My contract is for 24months...no fear, I am getting rid of IP5 soon (if it gets worst) and going for Samsung or Andriod base phone.
