Hi,
i have a slower shut down time with mountain lion too.
I just downloaded TEXT WRANGLER.
I am a beginner in these matters.
Can someone please in very straight forward terminology explain the process of
using TEXT WRANGLER to modify the file?
Thanks Tom.
You don't need a text editor.
Just open a Terminal Window (Launchpad, type "Terminal" in the search field on top of the screen). Click on the Terminal Icon.
type in (better: copy and paste this line):
sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.securityd ExitTimeOut -int 2
press Enter
Enter your Password when prompted
type in (better: copy and paste this line):
sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.coreservices.appleid.authentication ExitTimeOut -int 2
press Enter
type in (better: copy and paste this line):
sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder ExitTimeOut -int 2
type in (better: copy and paste this line):
sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents ExitTimeOut -int 2
press Enter
After that the shutdown wil be remarkingly shorter.
Regards Olli
I've been having the same problem recently and tried everything you guys have stated above. I have the newest Macbook Pro and I couldn't restart, log out, or shut down my laptop because my background display just wouldn't shut off, but it wasn't for like minutes it would go on for hours! What I found that helped was that I went to Finder...Applications...Utilities...Disk Utility...First Aid. Once I went through those steps I Restarted my computer and it actually restarted with no problems!!! 🙂 I hope this helps you guys!
