Exactly. They are needed, but are recreated on the restart.

And correct, after the reboot you can trash the files and delete them.

Here on locating the folders I tried to move them by dragging them to the desktop, it prompted me for Admin Password & just copied them onto the desktop rather than moving them. Is that suppose to be that way or how do we pull the folders from Library?

After i tired few Times but again it SUKS, it was shutting down slow up to 15 - 20 Sec. i had few other issues so i Clean installed OSX 10.8.1 and than upgraded to 10.8.2 it was all good till i installed MS Office 2011, even after installing al the updates for MS office it still slow shutdown.

Yeah...I'm in the same boat. I've got several postings in this thread and a couple of days ago I deleted all login items and that resulted in a fast shutdown. I added back some of the login items and still had a fast shutdown for a day or so, but now I've got the slow shutdown again.

This began with Mtn Lion (I had the same login items with Lion) and I now strongly suspect that changes in Mtn. Lion caused it. I'm done and I hope that Apple can deal with this in a subsequent software update.

At this point I consider it a bug introduced in Mtn Lion. Your opinion may be different.

Mine was due to a leftover entry (PowerBoxInjector) from a SideEffects install which installs SIMBL, the ColorFulSidebar bundle and the PowerBoxInjector app for the Finder Sidebar colors. When I uninstalled SideEffects, I trashed the PowerBoxInjector.app but didn't take the referenced out of Login Items.

I still have Dropbox, iTuneshelper and Canon IJ Network Scanner in my Login Items.

Removing PowerBoxInjector from Login Items fixed my slow shutdown on my rMBP.

I only had iTunes Helper in the login items, removing that didn't speed up the shut down at all. However when I tried removing Caches, LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons that worked a treat. It also made the boot up a lot quicker now, now it is like it was when I first got the MBP-R. FYI when I just checked my login items again I find that iTunes Helper had automatically added itself back.

This Issue seems to be inside the "Users/YourUsername/Library/Saved Application State" Folder.😉

I´ve noticed, that MacOS tried to quit Camino, although it wasn´t running.😮

Tried this, and it fixed the delayed Shutdown-Issue permanently:🙂

Deleting all Files inside the "Saved Application State" Folder, and made it Write-Protect (by checking the "Geschützt" Option in it´s Finder Information Window)-

that´s all.😁

But: Keep in Mind by doing this, the OS couldn´t "remember" the opened Applications and Windows-😟

But: The Shutdown takes only 1 or 2 Seconds.🙂

I found I couldn't delete Caches so I copied it to my desktop and then in the version in Library I opened it up and deleted the files inside. With the other I did the same thing but LA and LD allowed me to delete the folder once I had copied it. My Cache folder was only about 150mb in size.

Thanks firesidefromellenville for your quick reply. I am bit baffled with this Mac HD> Library> Cache folder as when on opening it I only get to see 9 files with size around some 600kb.

And today when I tried copying the same folder to desktop, it copied a size of 431.70MB folder. 😕

How many files were there in your Cache folder?

Also, my Users> Library > Cache folder has about 50 files with a size of around 230MB. Does that too needs any attention/ cleaning? Have you tried using OnYx for system maintainence?

Currently there are 6 files and 3 folders in my Caches folder, about 102mb total. I have used Onyx in the past, but haven't yet put it onto my new MacBookPro-retina, thanks for reminding me to get it.

A word of caution about deleting the contents of LaunchAgents and LaunchDeamons, if you are running Little Snitch as an outgoing firewall. After deletion I found that I couldn't open up Little Snitch but was OK after a reinstall. I had the same slow shut down on my iMac and only deleted the Caches which solved the problem on there.

I had some 9 files weighing 432MB. Deleted them... but still no big gains on boot up & shut down. My MBP is still taking 30-35secs to reach the login page & another 10secs from thereafter. And shut down is still as old with 20-25secs. Also, my battery backup has gone down from what it used to be with 10.8.1.

What exactly you have been using Onyx for? Cleaning?

Also, I deleted contents from LaunchAgents and LaunchDeamons only settings which I believe got reset were of my blutetooth mouse. I have'nt used Little Snitch. What is it?

By disabling the Sync Services within Outlook 2011 and rebooting, shutdown times returned to normal.

Unfortunately the CONSOLE logs got filled up with:<Error>: AceConnection - Couldn't read anything through read! the os lied to us ;_;
