Shared iCloud calendar notification problems

Hey all,

My partner and I have a number of shared iCloud calendars which we seem to be having problems with since we upgraded to iOS6 and iCloud.com's upgrade (I'm not sure if there's been an upgrade but things seem different).

At the moment whenever my partner or I add/delete/change and event in our shared calendars the other person is recieving email notifications of these changes. Orginally when you shared a calendar with someone you could choose whether or not you would be notified when they made any changes to it- this toggle seems to have disappeared and we seem to be stuck with the settings we had set with no way of changing them.

Does anyone have any ideas on a work around to this?

In the preferences pane of iCloud->Calendars we've both turned off all the alert and notification settings yet are still recieving emails. Not only that, but we are also getting notifications via the Calendar App on our iPhones despite in Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars having 'New Invitation Alerts' and 'Shared Calendar Alerts' both turned off.

It seems no matter what we turn off (iCloud.com & on the iPhone) we still recieive these emails regarding changes, deletions, and new events.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,

Duane

It's kind of ironic that when you subscribe to this thread (in order to be notified if a fix surfaces), you'll get your inbox flooded by notifications from people saying "I have the same problem, my wife have the same problem etc". ;)

People, in the original post there's a "I have the same problem"-button. Press that and subscribe to the thread if you don't have anything valuable to add. That way, you won't add to the problem of getting annoying notifications.

Have a nice day. :)

Add me to the list with calendar frustrations with my signifciant other. I saw, too, that the settings are gone for notifications - but in calendar settings, I have the option to choose email or app notifications when she adds something or invites me. Much better than the email box being filled up.

Apple really has lots of work to do on iCloud for collaboration. They have to know that it is really causing folks to not trust their service for day to day use.

Well as of this morning (10/15) neither me or my wife are getting email notifications at our @me.com address. I actually liked the fact that we received emails for shared calendar changes. Both our @icloud addresses do not yet work so that didn't change. I did notice on icloud.com under calendar advanced preferences for invitations 2 buttons; 1 for in-app notifications and another for email to xxxx@gmail.com which is my Apple ID (which says use this option if your primary calendar is not in iCloud).

I sure hope they give us the option for email notification and/or in-app.

Are you still having this problem ? I'm using iCloud for my work (I actually installed iCloud for my department in a Canadian university) and all my colleagues who have a shared calendar are receiving annoying email notifications... According to them, it started 2 or 3 days ago. Strange point, they only receive notifications when I change something into the calendar (they haven't the right to modify anything) however when the second owner (with the rights to modify the calendar) makes change, nobody receives an email notification, weird.

We are using iCloud either online or with iCal on macbook pro/air.

Hello all,

So this morning the Apple Consultant I've been dealing with gave me a call to see if everything had been fixed and to my suprise the email notifications had stopped coming through on the 11th of October (I hadn't noticed before because I'd had them all diverted into a folder and out of my inbox). Having a look over iCloud.com there has been some changes which hopefully means some fixes! (Yay!)

Through iCloud.com -> Calendar -> Preferences -> Event Updates: the ability to tick/untick "Email me shared calendar updates" seems to save now when I log out and log back in (that setting never used to hold). I have now turned this off for my partner and he no longer receives email notifications (although it does still appear in the Invitations tray on the iPhone Calendar app which is annoying).

My partner and I also share Reminder lists (a grocery shopping one, jobs on our home reno etc) and after the iOS6 update on our iPhone's we lost the ability to share/unshare these lists. Through iCloud.com -> Reminders you can now hover to the right of the list name and a share icon is revealed where you can share/unshare the reminder list with someone. Since iOS6 we also started receiving email notifications everytime something was added to a shared reminder list (ie. Tomatoes) which was effing annoying. This seems to have stopped =)

I'm yet to see the effects of these iCloud changes on the iOS6 "New Invitation Alerts" & "Shared Calendar Alerts" toggles in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars on the iPhone. When I get a chance to do this I'll let you know how I go.

Hope others have found the same fixes =)

Hello,

Thank you for all your work on this Duane.

I have been following this thread with the same issues.

I can confirm that the Invitation and Shared calendar alerts still appear on the IOS 6 iPhone even if both are toggled off.

This is very problematic because we have multiple shared calendars that are adjusted throughout the 24 hour cycle, so there is a constant barrage of interruptions and alerts for mere "housekeeping" changes.

There has to be a way for the recipient to control what alerts are received. It appears this is not so with shared calendar alerts (and probably invitations but we haven't tested that feature).

To be clear here, I am referring to automatic notifications, not emails being sent.

Keep us posted.

Thanks Duane and Ben.

Ben, I haven't tried Apple yet. My concern is it may not be a big enough issue for them to bother with. I don't imagine many use multiplr shared calendars. However, if the software suggests it should be possible, then obviously there is a problem with the software in IOS6. I haven't upgraded my iPhone to 6 yet, but all the new ones have it installed. Very irritating.

We will just have to wait and see what the next update of IOS6 brings.
