iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

It's not a phone/hardware issue. Having phones replaced for no reason is wasteful. You are penalizing Apple when the issue is with VZW and specific cell towers that do not have the proper configuration/software.

VZW is well aware of the issue and is working hard to rectify the problem.

Sorry to report to you all, but I have tried every suggestion on this board (except return my phones for new ones) to fix the time/date issue on my Verizon iPhone 5's, and so far the only thing that works is to keep LTE turned-off. I even tried the new Apple IOS 6.01/Verizon 13.3 update yesterday and then last night after 11:30pm my phone's date & time switched back again. So we either have some lemon phones, or this is a Verizon LTE/Tower issue and I'm starting to have the feeling that it's going to be a long time to get it fixed. I've had an open ticket at Apple on this issue since I got the phones and I see no short-term resolution.

Hope you all have better luck than me, but I'm considering returning mine (but I'll have to wait for replacements) and continuing to do so as many times as possible until the problem is resolved. It's absurd that you buy an iPhone 5 on the Verizon network specifically for the purpose of using their great LTE network only to learn that you must have LTE turned-off for the phone to keep the correct date & time. If Verizon had the Nokia Lumia 920 I'd probably swap for it today and not look back even though I've had every model of iPhone since it's introduction.

I would respectfully disagree.

The problem is clearly on both sides. VZW may have an issue with their towers/network infrastructure, but Apple shipped a product that does not appropriately handle VZW's time signals.

My Droid MAXX did not do this. Ever. Same network, same places. MOT figured out how to handle VZW's network configuration. Apple apparently has not yet.

I'm not saying that Apple is entirely culpable, but they are absolutely not without fault. I'm sure that both Apple and VZW are working hard to fix this, but it may be a long time and some people may not be able to wait for that.

Date/Time is a core functionality, and it is of critical importance for some (many/most) users. For instance, my alarm didn't go off this morning because my time reset. Problem. I probably will not return my phone over this, but it is not inherently unreasonable for someone to say that their phone has to function correctly as a clock. Lots of people no longer wear watches, and their phone is their watch.

I had great hopes got IOS 6.01 and VZW 13.3 but I found that I had a random time shift this morning went back to 10/26 2:05 AM when I looked at it.

I reset everyting back to normal settings to see if the problem may have been fixed, but apparently not FIXED!!!!

So back to theses setting which for me had given me 3 weeks of no time shift, the following settings appear to work on my handset, but the same settings do not work on my wife's handset.

Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically -> OFF

Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone -> Enter your respective city

Settings > General > Set Date & Time > Enter current date and time

Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone -> OFF

Maybe they will fix this one day

You can respectfully disagree all you want but you'd be wrong. One of my best friends is a VZW "Test Man". I contacted him about this issue specifically and VZW is well aware of the problem. The issue is at the towers and whether or not they have the proper configuration and software. Each tower must be checked. There are also reports that Samsung phones have the same issue so how is that an Apple thing?

BeerCan... Call Verizon Wireless Number and complain to them. I hate that store in Hickory, they're a bunch of nasty a55es. I think they get paid a commission to be nasty a55es down there. Anyway, when I called, they refunded my entire wireless data package cost for the month. My intentions were to continue to call back and request a refund monthly until it was fixed, but so far (since 10/20) I have not had a problem. I'm mostly in Hildebran area and used to experience this issue every day at work sitting at my desk. Have not had this happen at all this week. I updated my phone this morning and haven't had it happen today either.

Bloomington, IL here...same problem. See me from there? I'm waving.

I've been having this problem with date/time for weeks on my iPhone5. I ****** away another hour on the phone yesterday, getting tossed between Verizon, to Apple Care, back to Verizon Tier 2.

Every tech support person I've talked to is professing ignorance, claiming they've "NEVER HEARD" of such an issue. Each time they say that, I ask them "Have you seen the 34 page long thread on YOUR OWN FORUMS?" or "do you have access to google to do a search for this?"

At any rate, they had me do a soft restart, hard reset (backup and erase phone) and go from Verizon 13.0 to Verizon 13.1. Within 5 hours, my phone was showing the wrong time again.

At any rate, Verizon wrote a new ticket, number NRB000005704695, while basically telling me I was the only one having this problem and that it must be confined to one tower locally here in Decatur IL.

Ok everyone I found a solution that worked. I have turned off International CDMA on one of the phones. For the past 2 weeks never saw the issue or had my phone change the timezone.

I had another phone with that turned on and it had that issue every other day. This is probably the main cause of the problem. So if you want go ahead and try the following:

Settings -> General -> Roaming -> International CDMA = OFF

Nov 4, 2012 8:23 AM in response to crnkyplyr

Unfortunately, the same here in Bloomington, Indiana. Turning the INTL CDMA roaming off appeared to fix the problem because I made the change Saturday afternoon, and Sunday morning the time & date were still correct even with the daylight savings time change that happened so I was optimistic because this was the longest that I've been able to keep the LTE on and still keep time/date accurate. However, about 9:30am or so my date flipped back to August 30th, and my time after 11pm.

This is beginning to look very bleak for all of us and our new VZW iPhone 5's.

Still no issue with my phone after almost two weeks now. I can't stress enough to contact VZW every single time this instance happens so they can pin point what tower your using and correct the issue with it. I called and called here in the Charlotte, NC area and have yet to encounter anymore issues in two weeks now with my time and date changing. Everyone I work with who has an iPhone 5 have said they haven't had the issue anymore either. Keep calling and bugging the crap out of them until they correct the issue in your area. If only five people are calling in your area once in awhile they aren't going to act as fast as the other areas that are calling more frequently.
