iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

Update from Norcal in the Sacramento area. Since installing the recent iOS update to the iP5 and with it the new Verizon update, I have not had any time shift issues with the phone. It's been about 5 days now, but all is stable. I do have the International Roaming CDMA turned off per akramh's suggestion for the time being.

Before that, I was able to exist without any problems by turning the date time function to manual, setting time and date manually, and the area code manually. I did also turn off the auto update for area code as well. I went almost two weeks with those settings and did not have any time shift issues. Since I have not been traveling outside of the PST time zone it has not been too big a hassle.

Now after the recent update back on auto, and after 5 days--moving from 3G to LTE and back, no issues for now.

Update: Honolulu, HI

Since updating to iOS 6.0.1 and VZ carrier 13.3, I have not experienced a single time warp. I was reluctant to post at first to avoid being jinxed. But I've watch my phone switch from LTE to 3G several times in a matter of minutes and still no time warp. So I'm pretty confident that either VZ and or Apple has fixed the problem in my area. Also I have everything set to on, locations services, international roaming, etc.

I had my first conversation today with Verizon. After ensuring that my software was up to date, the tech had me reset the network settings: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. He told me that after other people had done this, after the iOS 6.0.1 software upgrade, that they had not called back with this same date and time issue.

Time will tell....

Thanks for the info crnkyplry, I'm going to give it a try. This was one of the things I tried without success prior to the 6.01/13.3 update, but I haven't tried it since so what have I got to lose? I appreciate you, and everyone on this discussion for taking the time to post these potential fixes. Even if it doesn't work, it's worth a try and better than waiting helplessly for VZW and/or Apple to resolve.

Thanks!

This is not just a Verizon issue. I am a Sprint IPhone 5 customer with the same issue. Time is off about 20 to 25 minutes. First time was 2 days ago and a restart fixed it. Second time was today and toggling Airplane mode on and off fixed it. I have a watch so I don't watch the phone time that much so I am not sure when it's actually happening.

Well, time told...it didn't work for me either. Sorry, folks.

for what it's worth, I have not had my date/time glitch in 3-4 days. I'm waiting for the weekend and Monday before I let myself decide that it's done with. I've been leaving LTE on, I have the 6.0.1/13.1 updates.

Since these issues seemed to be relagated to geographic pockets, I'm in the Louisville Ky with most of my time spent near/in Shelbyville.

My phone is doing this as well, and it's really starting to **** me off. I use my phone as my alarm clock, you see... Have been doing this for the past six years without an issue-- with my old phone, that is. Two weeks ago I get the iPhone 5. First time i've ever had a phone within even 6 months of it's release. It's caused me to be late to work twice already 😟

I'm astonished this hasn't been addressed yet. May not seem all that important to the engineers with Apple... But for those of us that run on a tight schedule everyday, it is quite an inconveience.

I'm honestly starting to consider going back to the old brick-- LG Rumor Touch. I'm that frustrated.

Just wish there were a more formal way to address this via email to Apple's seemingly non-existant online support (apart from this forum, of course). But a forum can only get you so far in situations such as these 😝

Just wanted to chime in that I'm also having the issue. Verizon 13.3 and iOS 6.0.1. I also use my phone as an alarm and it went off at 1:30 this morning b/c the phone thought it was 6:30. Very annoying! I have the automatic time turned off and just also tried turning off the time zone update from location services under privacy.

This really is a basic function that shouldn't be difficult at all.

I am on Sprint network. Iphone 5 with 16Gig.

Starting happening this time and Date issue from day one I purchased.

It is very annoying. I tried different options like setting time to Manual. and other options like CDMA roming disable...etc. No Use so far.

I can say only one thing now... Iphone 5 *****....

I never thought Apple makes suck a worst device and OS.

My Alarms, reminders, imessages... etc are screwed up.

It's a Crap... Crap... Phone.

I can tell you... it is not the phone. I work for an indirect Verizon store.. This is a huge issue with my ip5 as well.. With that said, i am getting GS3, Droid Razr M, Razr HD witht he same problems... I have talked to tech support as well as all of you.. And I am getting the same answers. This is only my take... But this seems to be in areas that dont have the full LTE buildout and is still switching between 3g and LTE... This is where i see my phone doing this.. I watched it many time now when going from LTE to 3g or visa versa... there is a communication error somewhere between those towers.. BUT i will say.. from all the phones with this problem i am seeing... it is NOT apple..

Weird thing is.. i went three weeks with LTE on and the problems were gone... as of two days ago.. back to the same problems...

I would agree with the above post. I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where LTE is sparse. My iPhone 5 (6.0.1/13.3) has the date/time issue. If I turn off LTE it works fine.

Last weekend we traveled south to Appleton, Wisconsin, where LTE is pretty consistent. Down there, my phone had no issues.

Now, back up here at home again, the problem occurs once every couple of days if I keep LTE on. Of course, I can get it corrected by toggling Airplane Mode off and on again.

Like everyone else, I'm anxious for this to be fixed.

I'm also in Overland Park, KS and have the same phone. My time seems to be consistently off by 13 minutes. Apple Engineers are supposed to be contacting me within 24 hours to run tests on the phone. I am on my second iPhone 5 in two weeks and still have the same problem. Based on other posts in this thread, it sounds like a possible tower issues. However, Sprint and Apple act like they don't know anything about it.
