iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

HunterX3, based on my experinece and by reading other posts on this board, it appears the situation resolves itself over time. there have been many attempt to find a "fix" within the iPhone, but seamenly with no avail. i myself am with Sprint (which i understand, in many cases, uses Verizon towers) and i have an iPhone 5. ihave been in contact with Apple and with Sprint and neither one seems to know what the problem is (i dont believe either of them). my phone's time was off for probably a month straight. then, the problem went away and i have not expereinced an issue since. i gather, based on the seemingly lack of activity on this board in recent weeks, that the problem is being resolved by the guilty party(s). i would suggest, wearing a watch, not using your phone as an alarm clock and stop relying on your phone as an accurate clock in general. my guess will be that this issue will continue for a while until your area is fixed (most likely meaning the phone provider being the guilty party). just my two cents.

Really glad I returned my iPhone 5! This problem appears to have become more prevalent not less. And, while the time shift is inconvenient for using the phone as a timekeeper do not forget that it will not send or receive text messages while the time is not synced which is the primary reason I sent mine back; who wants to have to resync the darn phone before they can send a message! iPhone 4s is working great! Good luck to those of you who kept the iPhone 5 past the return period....

CONFIRMED: SOLUTION FOR ALL IS COMING SOON.

I have information that should put a halt to this thread for a while. I have been dealing with this problem since the first week the iPhone5 was released. Since day one, I have slowly been working my way up the Verizon Tech support ladder and now I think I have reached the top of the chain and actually have gotten some useful information. I have been told by a top tier Verizon tech member. That the fix will be coming in the form of a substantial software update to be released in mid-December.

Nobody's phone has been fixed yet. The problem is intermittent. If you have not had issues for a while it is purely coincidental. Until the software update is released, everyone is at risk for random time and date changes. I have had the problem for nearly 3 months, but I also had a 3 week period of no time problems and now it is back full force. They have admitted it is indeed a LTE network issue and no setting change done to your phone can prevent this except turning LTE off (which is not a solution only a band-aid).

So it is confirmed, the fix has not been released to anyone yet, but it is coming.... The best we all can do is deal with it until the fix arrives. I will be checking for software updates every day as we get closer to mid December. (Obviously since the fix is not released yet, they must still be working the "kinks" out of the update) I wouldn't hold my breath for mid-December, but at least we know the fix won't just happen by magic and it will be in the form of a downloaded update. The End...

Thanks Builder1 for time, effort and digging done. I'll be watching for the update 🙂

I turned my LTE off a couple weeks after getting my iphone, as my date/time were getting messed up frequently. Haven't had a problem since turning it off but have been looking forward to the day when someone figures out and fixes the problem so I can have LTE again.

Had a friend with 4S tell me an upate was available to 6.0.1 for his phone that was supposed to fix a carrier problem. He walked me through plugging in to iTunes with my iPhone 5, but the patch is not available to me...it says I'm up-to-date. A note was there saying that it would automatically check for another update on 12/20.

Do you suppose they're testing the fix on the more stable 4S before rolling it out to the rest of us peasants?

6.0.1 has been out for several weeks it does not contain the fix. According to recent conversations with Verizon, no fix has been released yet. The 4S is a 3G phone. The problem with the iPhone5 time and date is admittedly a LTE problem which has no effect on 4S phones. From what I understand we are waiting for a major update (probably 6.1...) if your phone is up to date then you probably already have 6.0.1 since it has been out for quite some time.

I too am having the same issue with my Verizon iPhone 5. It is set to Chicago time and shows that it is off by an hour. I am guessing it has something to do with Daylight Savings time, since the problem seemed to start sometime after we set our clocks back.. Fortunately it has not been off at the time my alarm has gone off in the morning, but I am going to have to go buy an alarm clock because I don't feel I can trust my iPhone. I don't set my alarm every day, but when I do it is really important that it be reliable. It seems to correct itself after I make a phone call, but I haven't tested it enough to verify that it does change everytime, but I have noticed that result at least twice. I hope a fix is coming for this soon.

Thanks Builder1!! I had checked on this thread quite a while ago, and no one had any concrete information yet. Last I heard, Apple and Verizon were blaming each other and claiming nothing was wrong. So glad someone finally got some good information and was nice enough to share it!

It only happened to me once a while ago, and then it was fine for a while. Now, for over a week, it's been a regular occurrence. Several times a day I'll have to toggle airplane mode on and off to get the correct time to show. Thankfully it has only been happening while at work... I hope the issue doesn't become more widespread for me.

For the record, in case anyone is interested... I had a similar problem with my last phone, before I switched to the iPhone 5 on VZW. It was an Android on T-Mobile, so it wasn't even LTE -- it was HSPA+. I noticed that while I was at work, where I get poor reception due to lots of concrete and metal, that my time would change by itself. When I used location based services, my GPS would be incredibly inaccurate. At first it showed I was in Japan, another time it was Florida, another time it was even New Mexico! My only assumption was that the poor reception skewed the GPS results, and in turn that affected my time zone settings. The plus was that on that phone, I could disable automatic time settings to fix the time issue (although it didn't fix the incorrect GPS location).

I'll be anxiously awaiting the next iOS update! Considering the phone has been out for almost three months, I think it's about time they get it fixed! Good luck everyone. 😐

Cheryl, did you see the earlier post by Builder1? The fix will be in an upcoming iOS release. No one knows in advance when these updates are released except for Apple. So, no one will have further information until an update is released for iOS... Which means we will probably all find out at the same time. It *****, but there isn't anything we can do about it. :-/

Thanks for the heads up crnkyplyr.

I loaded the update and noticed that the carrier software version did not change (Verizon 13.3, remains the same as before the update)(look under settings>general>about>carrier... to view this) Verizon told me the fix would come in the form of a major iOS update that also includes a carrier update. Maybe this will be iOS 6.1.0? I feel my research and sources at Verizon are reliable, but who knows! I guess we'll see if this is it, or if we still have to wait for an update for the carrier version...

I have heard about this issue well before I had received my iPhone 5 back in Oct. The phone had IOS 6.0.1 installed on it and never had the issue. Last week the update IOS 6.0.2 came out and now I noticed the time was 12 minutes slow. I cycled power to the phone and time was OK. Some the the posts say that people contacted VZW and VZW stated to shut off the LTE. That is total BS!! Why should we resort to shutting off an option that most people waited for the iPhone 5 to come with, just to temporarily fix the date/time issue. I rely on the date/time on my phone for work, and if that date/time isn't correct, NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!!! Come one Verizon and/or Apple, man up and say that you have an issue, and FIX IT!!
