iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

Clearly Verizon and Apple are aware of this issue and are doing everything they can to fix it. Apple's success is based on a great product defined by feedback from it's user base. No need to contact all things media as soon enough a fix will be out. Personally I have set my phone to manual date and time and have had zero issues since. This will hold me off till the code is written for the fix.

Actually, they aren't. Everyone at Apple I've spoken with says they've never heard of it (both on the phone and in the store), and Verizon claims there is no issue with their side at all.

And I'm glad manual date/time fixes it for you, but it doesn't for me. I can't send iMessages, use Facetime or get Push Notifications at all.

Boogerlayne,

I had the same idea as you. I thought I'd just toggle off the auto date and time and go with manual until Apple or VZW got the problem sorted out. Like you, I thought surely this will solve the issue for now and allow me to use my phone and apps normally. However, that didn't last. It still messed up the date and time even with me manually setting the date and time. I've had the phone since launch day. In fact, I've had 3 iPhones to play with as far as settings. Trust me - I've tried every possible combination of settings toggled on and off and nothing has prevented it.

Like somebody else, I've had the phone switch literally in my hand after waking it up.

I've pointed this thread out to MacOSKen and hopefully he'll talk about it in his podcast. Next up, I'll send an email out to Rob at Today in iOS. I'm sure Apple is going to get a fix for this, but I'm also reminded of a certain saying about a squeaky wheel and some grease. After dropping close to $1000 a piece on 3 unsubsidized VZW iPhone 5s, I'm not feeling too magical now. It's a shame, too, because this issue has, since launch day, prevented me from fully enjoying this new phone.

This has been happening to me since Sept 21. I spoke to VZW early last week and they ran me through a restore. Did not fix it. Went into the VZW store where the rep told me just to set the time manually and i told him that wasn't solving the issue. Went to the Apple store today and was told at the Genuis bar that it was probably because my iCloud account was still set to Pacific time even though I am in eastern (NC). We corrected my iCloud account time zone, but asked him how it would make my time be 1 hour 32 minutes earlier than actual time. He then took my phone and reset the location and then I told him how I had found a discussion board online where it seems to be happening to VZW iphone 5s only. He then pretty much told me to switch carriers, but he wasn't sure how VZW handles contract cancellations. I told him if there was anything else for him to do to please do it. I live and work in a small town 35 minutes away from an apple store and I had a made a trip into the city for just dealing with my phone. He reinstalled my firmware and I had to restore my phone.

I have noticed that the time switch happens mostly at home, while charging. I am connected to wifi, but am in a borderline 3g/LTE network area. Last night it occured when I was in LTE. It does sometimes happen randomly during the day when I am not charging.

So I've had some luck getting my stuff working today. Here's what I did:

1. In WiFi settings, for my home network, I changed the DNS setting to 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 (those are Google's open DNS servers)

2. In Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services (all the way at the bottom), I turned off Location Services for Setting Time Zone

So far, with either cellular on/off or wifi on/off, I'm still able to send/receive iMessage. Has been working for about 14 hours now. Will ping this thread again after a little while, but I'd say give these two things a shot?

Yes, it is set to automatic. I turned off the location services for time setting, went back to time and switched it to manual then automatic to apply the changes and it immediatly changed to the wrong time and of course kept searching for the time zone.

I should not that it was the glitch that was occuring since the DATE and MINUTES were incorrect not just the hour... and the date is off by 14 days
