iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

I updated all three of my iPhone 5s and I still have the issue after I checked my data usage from last night. All the three phones were at home all night connected to WIFI and they show high amounts of data usage. I also have an iPhone 4 connected to WiFi and it does the same thing. My son was watching NETFLIX on his phone Sunday with his iPhone 4 while connected to Wifi and it used a ton of data. This is not just an iPhone 5 issue. I just hope Verizon doesn't ding us when we go over.

I just checked my wifes phone and her phone the time changed. Now what I have found is that when this happens on both our phones that the date is set to september and some random time on that date. Today I recored the the date and time as 9/2/12 at 9:55PM. We are going to be checking the date and time and see how it progress when we have these time shifting events.


I have a feeling the internal clock of the iphone is not being set with the tower correctly and when it loses time it reverts back to internal clock which is off.


To fix it as i mentioned earlier I just set to airplane mode and return and it then sysncs the tme.

I reset my network settings yesterday and what I noticed was that the date/time changed to the wrong time until the phone acquired the tower and immediately updated to the correct time. It maintained the correct time for approximately 12-14 hours and it inevitably ended up changing to the wrong date and time as it always does. Also, I noticed a slight decrease in battery life.

My phone had made it 24 hours without messing up the time - until this morning. I plugged in my iPhone to my iMac to sync and it changed the time to the same 12+ hrs. off in the past. I'd synced my iPhone with my iMac before and it hasn't caused a time shift. I didn't have any faith that the time would stay correct. But this was the longest stretch yet. I'm in western NC, by the way. AND this is getting OLD quickly.

I'm playing with the idea of the problem being the phone not updating an internal clock so that when it looses connectivity with a cell tower it reverts to the incorrect date/time being maintained by the phone.


I wonder if having Apple do a battery pull on it would get it to erase the incorrect time and update with the correct time. Of course there are 3 potential outcomes if this is the problem...


1. The phone resets and starts working as it should (Would be nice)

2. The incorrect time is maintained but is now further behind by the amount of time the battery was out of the phone

3. The battery pull fixes the problem locally but when you change time zones the phone will continue to randomly switch date/time to the time zone where the battery pull was done.


I know little to nothing about electronic repair but these are the outcomes I would expect by applying personal experience and logic to the problem. Anyone with more knowledge on the subject please feel free to explain why this wouldn't work

This is obviously an issue with Verizon in NC and some other places. My friend in Virginia has not had it happen. He also never sees LTE. It is pretty rediculous that nothing seems to be getting done about it. If this is costing people data usage, Verizon needs to answer for this. It has only been a problem for me since the Verizon upgrade so it is obvious this has something to do with the solution to the problem. Why is no one talking about this outside of this forum?

It is also happening in Oregon, and only commenced after the update to Verizon carrier version 13.1. It makes many features of my phone unusable. Calandar jumps backwards a day, hours jump backward six hours without warning. I get error messages that say a message cannot be delivered until my date and time error is corrected. Some messages are permanently lost. Reminders fail. Alarms are worthless. This should be fixed yesterday (the date my phone has twice showed today). APPLE? VERIZON? Are you there?

Update: I called Verizon. They suggested it might be a fluke that occurred when the new carrier version Verizon 13.1 downloaded to my Iphone5. Did a warm reset and download/install and will check with me tomorrow night to see if I had any more of my daily date and tirme errors. The Tech was very helpful and tested carefully with me after the reinstall. Now, we will see.

I have the same problem as everyone else. White 16g Verizon iphone 5.

My time is fine until around 12pm everyday then it's just stays the same time all day.

I'm not going to restore again as this is my second iphone in 10 days. Even after using icloud to restore my settings still have to be manually fixed which takes a lot of time. I guess I'll start wearing a watch again.

I spoke with a buddy of mine who works at an Apple store and he informed me that literally HUNDREDS of people have come into his store complaining about this problem... All VZW subscribers. We have 3 Apple stores locally and the one he works at is the smallest... If his store is seeing hundreds of complaints I refuse to believe anyone in Apple or VZW customer service is unaware of this issue. Keep prodding them for answers and insisting on a fix... With this many people having this problem why isn't the issue more talked about on the web... Why haven't tech reviewers written articles about it.
