Gmail very slow to send email after iOS 6 upgrade?

Hi,

I recently upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S. Ever since upgrading ive been experiencing problems with my Mail app (Gmail account). I can receive emails fine but when i try to send emails they take around 10 minutes to send. Before upgrading to iOS 6 (from 5.1.1) it woked perfectly.

I have checked and double checked all of the settings including SMTP server etc although this is all automatically defined by the phone. I have tried deleting the account twice and starting from scratch but i have exactly the same issue with sending emails.

I have another email account on the phone which uses POP3 and this works perfectly as it did before upgrading to iOS 6.

If anyone has any suggestions i would be extremely grateful.

Thanks.

Hi,

I've run into exactly the same problem as stated in the original post.

Tried several of the workarounds (including putting iOS mail into the Notifications list) here, but they did not work.

Then I fooled around with the Gmail account in the mail settings of the iOS main system settings. When looking at the "outgoing mail server" configuration, I noticed the following:

the update to iOS 6.1.3 has the Gmail account standard settings putting there:

smtp.gmail.com

as the "primary server", but having it communicate on "server port":

465

In that setting I have the 5-10 min sending delay.

However - I found in the SMTP server settings also an old SMTP server setting under "other SMTP servers" (where you can enter manually more SMTP servers), which uses:

smtp.gmail.com

as well, BUT has it looking on "server port":

25

instead !!

When I disabled the port 465 looking "primary server" (there's an on-off switch in its settings tab), and enabled the older port 25 looking entry in "other SMTP servers" .... the sending delay was gone!!

Switching the two server configurations back re-enacts the sending delay.

So, to me it looks like, iOS 6.1.3 is containing a faulty SMTP server configuration in its Gmail account standard settings - namely, it assigns port 465 to the SMTP server, where it should assign port 25 ...

Can anyone try this out as well, please, and confirm this hypothesis?
