iphone 5 no sound

HI all, I have had my new iPhone 5 now since Friday, its all been ok but a couple of times now it loses the ability to make any souns, things like when click the top right button to switch it off it used to make a 'swoosh' sound, thats has stopped, also when I get an email the phone usually makes a sound, that has stopped....and finally when I usually get a call the phone obviously rings, that has also stopped a few times and it just vibrates.

I definately dont have the phoen muted in any way, the left hand switch on the side of the phone is not set to mute or anything, and when I switch the phone off and then on again sound is restored, any idea's, asume this is either a hardware or software issue, help !!!!!!

Thanks

Hi Smurf235,

Yes, I got it sorted but only by getting my phone replaced at my local apple store.

I took it in after just 14 days as the initial purchase paperwork says you can return your phone up to 14 days for a refund!

When I took it in I told them about the problem and that others were having the same problem but the guy I spoke to said they were not aware of any problems and this was the first phone they had returned. I said well if you look on the apple forums I am not alone !!!!!

They took my original phone back and went and got me a new one and I have not had any problems with it at all, so basically I believe it to be a hardware issue as opposed to software, as I say my replacement phone has been absolutely fine.

The only time the sound switches off is when I get into my car and it connects automatically via bluetooth, I would expect this anyway.

I hope this helps, let me know how you get on!,

Best wishes and happy new year.

So it seems some people think its hardware, others software. I have had my iPhone 5 for just over 12 months and it worked just fine UNTIL I upgraded the software to IOS 6 last week. Now no sound at all even after restarting numerous times. This indicates a software issue to me but I'm no techy.

I still haven't figured out the fix after reading the forums so I would be grateful if someone could help. Btw I have never used iTunes and I don't connect my phone to the PC but will give that suggestion a go to see if I can get this piece of useless junk to work again. Cheers :-)

I have the same problem and thought I was going crazy. The sound turns on and off at will. Sometimes I get a ding when I get a text, sometimes not. When I am connected to Bluetooth in the car the sound goes to mute. I called Apple and they claimed they had never heard of the problem. Neither did the Verizon people. So, Apple sent me a brand new Iphone 5 and I sent mine back...I had only had it a month or two. Guess what? The new one does the same thing. It is SO frustrating that they claim they never heard of the problem and that there seems to be no fix on the horizon. I did the latest software update to iOS 6.0.2 and nothing changed. HELP!!! I'm ready to return it and go back to my old Iphone 4. Suggestions? Anyone? Anyone?

Hello,

I had the same problem, no sound without any reason, so no ringtones, music, etc, only thing that helped was resetting or restarting the iPhone 5. About a week ago i found this website http://iphonenosound.com/ who is giving different solutions. Believe it or not, the one who worked for me is the one with the hairdryer. I gave i try and it worked, i havn't had the problem since over a week. Hope it helps. Have a nice day.

My new iPhon5 had no sound, except when using the headphones. Tried everything i could think of, hair dryer, que tip, hard reboot, reset, restore etc. Nothing worked. Then going through the settings under general>accessibility>incoming calls, it was set to "default". I changed the setting to "speaker". Even though this setting supposedly only deals with incoming calls, changing the setting from "default" to "speaker" fixed all my sound issues. Good Luck.
