iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

I just got a new sim. Verizon also just reset my account again. The volumn of the voice has gone up allowing me to turn down the volume on the phone. It sound a little better because of the lower volumn I believe. I am also getting 4 bars at home instead of two.

The drop outs in the voice remain. I'm losing sylables out of words. Also the "digital" sound remains. Sometimes it gets better, but not at all usable for me. I'm still asking people to repeat themselves. No, my hearing is just fine!

Worse yet, the replacement phone they gave me (refurbished) is now acting up. The bottom right portion of the screen is not very sensitive to touch commands and I'm getting verticle bars through the whole screen and then a reboot! After close to two months of this, I think I am done.

Not sure what to do. Does anyone know how long a thread needs to be before Apple recognizes it, looks into it or even acknowledges it?

It seems the worse qaulity happens from iPhone 5 to iPhone 5. What are my options, I dont want to go to Apple store and swith out, becuase it seems this will do nothing. Will they give me a refund? What have other people done?

I can't speak for everyone hear, but I've been working with an apple senior engineer and upper level support at Verizon. Most of us have just not sat here and complained. We are actively trying to get through this problem. I believe it is good to report somewhere things that have been tried so we don't have to follow remedies that do not work. I've gotten some useful information here and have relayed it to both of the reps working with me.

A month and a half with this problem on both my wife's and my iPhone has been very trying especially when my phone is my business phone. I am actively trying to solve the problem ,whether it is the hardware or the network, with many support reps. I wouldn't characterize the reporting here as complaining.

Similar problem here in the Netherlands on T-mobile network. I've done some testing and I've found that making a call via the speaker (even with using the microphone of the new earpods) works fine, also making a call with the 'old' iPhone 4 headset works fine. The call quality issue is only present when I make the call with the new earpods.

I've been to the Apple Shop in Amsterdam and they couldn't reproduce the issue and said to have no knowledge of other users with same problem. They replace the earpods, which didn't solve the issue.

Listening to music with new earpods work perfect.

Some colleagues with iPhone 5 have same problem.

So indeed when will Apple start recognizing this problem and start working on a solution??

Just got off the phone from my husband who struggled through the short conversation to make sense of what I was saying. The conversation was short due to his and my frustration :P. After going to 2 stores and mentioning the issue, both staff members nodded their head and were well aware of these iphone 5 issues. Both unfortunately advising me that if it's a hardware issue, apple will do not anything about it. I have decided to break away from the iphone altogether now. Im jumping ship! My samsung galaxy comes Friday. I was lucky enough to be able to get an early exit after the added issue of poor network coverage. So new service provider and new phone...hopefully trouble free :D I feel very sorry for all of you who may be stuck with this faulty phone. Let's hope Apple do the right thing and start to respond to these complaints

I too have now conceeded to move on to another carrier (AT&T) and new Android phones for me and my wife. I never really figured out who was at fault though, the iphone or Verizon's network. Verizon basically let me out of the two contracts, told me to keep the two phones (which I will now sell), and said "good bye!". Verizon genuinely tried to find out the problem, but you can only do so much. They were under the assumption that the phones where functioning OK even after replacing them twice. The only thing they did not try was to kill my account completely and set it up again. That they said they could not do. They did give it a good try. Apple basically said it was a verizon problem.

I got my new iphone 5 yesterday. The sound quality is terrible, not on my end, but the person I'm talking to. Everyone says it sounds like I'm in a cave, and keeps saying "What? 100 times." I cannot deal with one more issue with these iphones. I have a microcell in my house so that my iphone can operate. Without the microcell, I have no bars and no service, and with it, I have 5 bars. It is definitely the phone, not anything else. The iphone just keeps deteriorating with each new model. The 3G was a pretty awesome phone comparatively. I should go back to it. I am returning my 5 tomorrow, and going back to the 4S....so depressing, Apple 😟

Same robotic voice and terrible connection problem here in Germany with the iP 5. 6.0.1 on the o2 network.

Called Apple yesterday and they said it is a harware problem and that they would change the phone.

When I asked him if that would fix the problem, he said in 99%, since the robotic voice problem is known by now.

The new iP5 will arrive tomorrow, we will see

Robot voice, too. The people on the other end of the line hear me perfect, but I barely can understand what they talk. The first seconds the sound is o.k., but then robot voice, breaks. iPhone 5, 16 GB, black, Vodafone Germany. iOS 6.0.1. I use this as a business phone, this is not acceptable!

Fix this issue!!! No matter what other problems there are: at least you must be able to use it for what a phone is for: using it as a phone! Even when it is an iPhone!
