iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

We have four Iphones in our household, two Iphone 5's and two 4's . . . . .

Both the iphone 5's suffer from this problem at home and the 4's are fine. It seems Apple are going backwards with their phones ???

We desperately need a resolution because I am fedup asking the caller to call me back on my landline because I can't hold a conversation with them !!

I have decided, to take a loss. I will sell my brand new iphone 5 to anyone that wants it (telling them that in my opinion there is a fault with the sound of voice calls) and go and buy a 4S. I will loose loads of money but as long as Apple refuse to accept that there is a quality issue, when all around them seem to be screaming then, I feel there is no hope. I think SimoMdot is 100% correct when he says: "Nobody will complain about the bad voice quality in an iphone 5 when the 5sยดs quality is good."

waht a shame but I cannot wast any more time on this topic, talking to Apple support and reading these unhappy comments is not good for my health, my business or my marriage.

Just to add credence to the fact that there is a problem here..... I am also having voice quality problems like what is being described, 2 in particular:

1. I cannot use the iPhone for voice calls with my ear buds plugged in. The call is just garbled. Ear buds work great with music, just not with phone calls.

2. I am getting calls that fade in and out or break up, particularly with my wife. It only happens when she is at work (works for Verizon Wireless) and when she is not at work the calls with her are fine so far. I had an LG Versa (not a smart phone) prior to this phone and never had a problem talking to her at work. I also have calls breaking up when I call certain 800 numbers. I can barely understand anyone on these calls.

I just got this phone for Christmas. Haven't talked to Apple or Verizon yet, but I will.

When AT&T told me about the DECT (Microcell) issue, I was like "what in the world are you talk about, there isn't one of those nearby". But apparently, people around me are using them and all over the valley which range from companies and also people who use them from their work at home offices. Any by so many of those DECT's being used, it causes a frequency disruption ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ.

But DECT or Microcells to me shouldn't be a problem. This iPhone 5 was expensive and apparently built so high tech with only the "best" materials so this should not be a problem.

As I've mentioned in earlier posts, I've switched back to my iPhone 4S and now all is working much better. I can even use my Bluetooth Earpiece and be 10 feet away from it and works flawlessly. On the iPhone 5, I had to be holding the phone in my hand to use an ear piece (ridiculous ha). Anyhow, I am really hoping that a fix comes thorugh sometime soon cause even though will all the issues, I miss using the many other features of the phone ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ.

Interesting statement about the 800 numbers.

I too have an iPhone 5 that has issues with the digitized (robotic) voice, cut outs (has to do with noise gate/noise cancellation) and I have noticed that the problems are much worse when I call 1-800 numbers. Not sure if this is because the call quality is worse coming from mostly overseas or whether it has to do with the "translation" of calls between networks. Plus the overall tonal quality of the iphone 5 is terrible (all midrange frequencies, no highs or lows) is probably due to Verizon/ATT not implementing HD Voice technology over their networks.

Like some have mentioned, I have turned on Hearing Aid mode and that seems to have helped with some of the noise gating problem but still not 100% perfect. Especially when calling 800 #'s.

Apple..are you listening to us? Or do you not care if we start migrating over to Android?

Hi guys, same sh*t in Russia although no LTE here. Got mine as a gift, for the first few days all was fine. When the problems started I was blaming the carrier as the SIM inside wasn't mine, I wasn't sure about how MTC should sound.

Come on, Apple, don't break our hearts! Look at you! There are 39 pages of people with similar issues and you - are you just going to screw us? What a shame Steve Jobs can't see that - and pretty sure that wouldn't have happened AT ALL if he was in control.

Very well said, peope are angry and to be honest, people wouldn't be as angry if they just admitted that there is an issue with the software or hardware and offered some sort of solution to get it fixed. When they change or delete those post's altogether, to me, it's a sign of addmittance of the problem.

I just got off the phone with an AT&T engineer who stated that they have indeeed found an issue with degradation within my area and their network and stated they would be calling me by the 17th to give me an update. I will keep everyone posted as to the findings and let's see if whatever they do, works.
