iPhone 5 Bluetooth issues with car

My iPhone 5 is having issues with Bluetooth and my car. It pairs with no problem and I can make calls with no problem. If my phone rings and I try to answer it with the car Bluetooth controls the call picks up then immediately goes back to listening to the radio... But the call is still connected and the phone thinks its still connected to "my car". So I need to quickly pick up the handset and switch the source to phone or the other person will hang up. If it helps the car is a 2010 Infiniti. Any ideas? I already tried re-pairing it. I also tried resetting the network settings.

Thanks in advance

This is the Infiniti website link to the bluetooth page: http://www.infinitiusa.com/bluetooth/?next=Bluetooth_Micro.Home_Page.Home. The Infiniti website home page is just infinitiusa.com.

The phone number for Infiniti USA customer support is 800-662-6200; they will give you a menu where you need to choose the last option (I think it is 7) and then ask to be connected to bluetooth support. This all takes a while.

For those folks who have cars other than Infinitis: I agree that this seems like it is more an Apple problem than one that each of our individual car manufacturers need to resolve. However, if Infiniti is willing to fix it, I am happy to let them do it. To have all of us fumbling around trying to hit multiple buttons while we are driving 70 miles an hour is a disaster waiting to happen.

Thanks for the advice. I called Infiniti at 800-662-6200, option 7 ask for bluetooth. I spoke with Ross who told me the same story but I added my name to the list. He indicated they have been working on this problem since the summer and have no ETA for resolution. I voiced my concern that after months with a team of engineers this luxory car can not connect to the most popular phone in the world and how dangerous it was. He told me he knows and they are doing the best they can.

I asked if they will be informing us when a software update is available so we can go to the dealer for a fix and he told me they don't have the option there are too many people with this problem to contact. I should call back weekly to see if this is fixed. Great!

I also emailed a complaint on line at http://www.infinitiusa.com/iapps/contactus?next=Bluetooth_Micro.Customer_Service .Contact_Us.Link

The more we complain hopefully the more attention this will get. Good luck to all of us!!

Here is what I received from Infiniti when I filled out a Customer Service form. Makes me think Infinti is blaming it on Apple, rather than on themselves as they have told others:

Thank you for contacting Infiniti and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.
Please be advised that the i-Phone 5 is currently in testing. Full compatibility will not be known until testing is completed. Not all Bluetooth phones will pass Infiniti testing standards. Phones that pass our rigorous requirements will be added to the recommended list periodically.
If you are wondering why your phone is not compatible right now, existing Bluetooth phones that are not listed as compatible have not passed Infiniti testing. Major calling functions like making, accepting and ending phone calls did not function properly and/or the Bluetooth connection was not stable.
You may visit http://www.infinitiusa.com/bluetooth.html periodically for updated compatibility listings.
We have documented your concerns in file# 10279252. If you have any further comments or concerns, please feel free to contact our Consumer Affairs department at 1-800-662-6200 (Option 7) and reference your file number.
Thank you for allowing us to be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Infiniti

Exciting news!!! I was one of the original posters on this thread when I bought my iPhone 5 on day 1 and could no longer use (and still can't) the phone in any of my work cars (Holden Commodores (GM) in Australia). I had pretty much given up. I just bought a new Subaru XV with sat nav. I didn't even try pairing the phone when testing the car because I thought no point. Well guess what.... I got it home .... iPhone 5 loves Subaru XV. It works perfectly. I guess this goes to show its not the phone. Build date of the car is Sept 2012 software version of the sat nav was dated April 2012 which is pre iPhone 5 launch so no excuses there.... There might be a clue here to help other car manufacturers get it right. Hail the iPhone!

Had issues with my iPhone 5's bluetooth streaming audio connecting to my '12 Maxima's nav system. Here's the fix:

1. In iPhone 5: SETTINGS>GENERAL>BLUETOOTH>MY CAR>FORGET THIS DEVICE then turn off bluetooth

2. In car PHONE>CONNECTED PHONES>DELETE (all phones)

3 in iPhone 5 GENERAL>BLUETOOTH> turn on bluetooth

4. In car PHONE>CONNECT PHONE and let car search for phone and enter YES and phone pairing code 1234 to pair PHONE

5. To pair streaming audio, in car PHONE>CONNECT PHONE answer NO to connect streaming audio, enter pairing code 1234, then OK.

Should work.

Anyone with iPhone 5 bluetooth issues with Lexus? I have 2012 Lexus is250 and am having same issue with iPhone 5. Can make calls but not receive incoming calls. Am receiving message "Connection Unsuccessful - Make sure Car M_MEDIA is turned one and in range" Phone settings shows Bluetooth on and for Devices shows connected and says Now Discoverable with the working circle only. I had the dealership clear out the bluetooth and have re-paired the phone 2 - 3 times. Dealership suggested I restore the factory settings to the phone and try again but have not tried yet. Yes, very frustrating!

I took delivery of my 2013 Infiniti M37 4 days ago. Like many others on this site, I also can only make calls out, but not receive them using the bluetooth and my iPhone 5 (that has the most recent OS released to date). I tend to agree with all others. We should bombard Apple and our manufacturers with complaints. I will likewise let Infiniti know when they are open next. Unfortunately, it is the squeaky wheel that gets the attention. Unfortunately, many have been waiting months for the fix on this. I would think the dealers should have disclosed this issue. I think they are either ignorant or worse, choose to not fully disclose this issue. Sad.

I also, like others, have paired and re-paired the iPhone 5 with the bluetooth with no changes in results.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Infiniti wants to give a stock answer or in other words, is blowing off its customers.

If it is really testing the iPhone 5, why isn't it on the list that is being tested.

The phone has been out for months now and complaints began immediately of which no step has been taken to rectify the matter.

Infiniti should rebate $$ to buyers of their cars or get it fixed as it is not delivering what it has promised.

Success story: here is what i did this morning-

first, attempted to pair, as usual, search for device was ongoing, without success. i then turned off bt on the phone, and on the car radio. then turned them both back on...still no connection.

next, i plugged in the phone via usb... and ran through the various possibilities, bt audio, bt phone, aux, etc. it would play, as a connected, wired device.

then, i turned off the bt on the car receiver, and when turning it back on, i kept it engaged, held it in, while it was turning on. voila, it then paired, gave me a choice to select XPlod...and everything works.

after returning to the car after errands, it is still paired and working. siri takes commands and dials, etc...

hope this might help others.

Over the holidays I had the opportunity to try a few different phone/car combinations. I have an iPhone 4 (Verizon) and an '08 Infiniti G35. The phone will pair but will cut in and out during calls.

I have a work-issued Blackberry Curve that works with no problem.

I paired my girlfriend's iPhone 4S (AT&T) to my G35 and it worked just fine. We drove around all day Christmas shopping, stopping and restarting the car numerous times and trying the phone each time (making and receiving calls). It worked all day with no hiccups. Both mine and my girlfriend's phones have the latest software update.

I paired my parents' Samsung Galaxy Note to my G35 and it also worked just fine. Given that I've been able to use three other phones with my car, it doesn;t seem to be an Infiniti problem.

I also paired my iPhone 4 with my parents' 2011 Kia Soul. It works during calls just fine and the music streaming also works. However, sometimes it would not pair when I turned the car back on (it only paired three of five times I turned on the ignition). But if it did pair it was reliable. My parents use the Kia's bluetooth with their Galaxy Note and it is reliable. Again, this tells me it is an iPhone problem.

I'm in the market for a new phone and this experience along with reading the myriad posts on this problem makes me think some iPhones will work while others with exactly the same software won't. I'm going to buy an iPhone 5, take it to the parking lot, pair it to my car, and if it doesn't work, walk back in to Best Buy and exchange it for a Samsung Galaxy SIII.
